āTo a none native speaker? Ā Not really, but if you put it up againstĀ āpureā itās obvious itās not the same. Ā Itās sort of a bastardized version? Ā English and Kalosian mixed together and yet both of them are changed a little to make it fit?ā Ā Remy gave a small shrug, unsure if he was making any sense at all. Ā
Bright grey, almost silver in the right light snapped up and he searched her face. Ā How many people had he showed the photo to? Ā How many people had just ignored him, turned their backs. Ā Just another person swallowed up in the crowd, trying to gain their own fame off the backs of Pokemon.
āI⦠Oui.ā Ā He shifted a little and pulled out his holocaster. tapping at the screen. Ā When he turned it around to show Luel, a picture filled the screen. Ā āHis nameās Ćmile Matthieu Lachance, mon frĆØre aĆ®nĆ©.ā Ā Remy set his sights on the ceiling, sharp teeth pressed hard into his bottom lip. Ā āHeās been missing over a month. Ā No one seems to want to believe me, they keep saying heās just off doing what he always does, that heāll come back, empty handed and loaded with apologies. Ā But⦠ They donāt know him like I do. Ā Somethingās happened, even before I fought with Alex, I knew something wasnāt right.ā Ā He looked back to Luel and offered her a small smile. Ā āSorry, Ā this⦠ itās got nothing to do with you right? Ā I donāt even know why Iām telling you any of this.ā
āA bastardized version?ā Luel repeated curiously. What a strange way of explaining it. But she nodded nonetheless, accepting it. To each their own. Maybe she would visit Snowbelle the next time she was in Kalos, the temperature differences ignored for the sake of curiosity.
Shock passed over her face at the admission. āA month?! A whole month, and no one believes you? Thatās horrible!ā She leaned forward as he held the device out, scanning the photo for several seconds. Not a face sheād seen yet, if her memory served her right, but a face sheād make sure to remember if she saw it again. With an apologetic frown, she shook her head.Ā āI canāt say Iāve seen him, but Iāll keep an eye out nonetheless.ā
Her fingers picked at the edges of her apron, upset at her inability to help Remy further. It was such a horrible position for him to be in, surely; the thought of ever being in his position was one that almost physically hurt her.Ā āIt might not have anything to do with me, but I canāt imagine anything worse than my sister going missing, especially for so long... So if thereās anything I can do to help, I want to do it.ā Luel paused for a moment, realising she hadnāt recognized the other name heād mentioned.Ā āFought with Alex?ā

The touch to his leg had him pulling it back, a sheepish smile on his face. Ā āYou really donāt have to do that mon amie, Iām fine.ā Ā Remy leaned forward just a little to take the cloth from Luel. Ā Sheād spilled it on him, that was true, but she didnāt actually have to go so far as to clean him. Ā It was⦠well, really weird.
āThe language here is strange. Ā Iām really not used to hearing anything other than Kalosian. Ā And even then, pure isnāt something I heard much. Ā Snowbelle, were I come from, has itās own dialect.ā Ā The cloth was rubbed over his shin when he pulled his foot up onto the chair, watching Luel from over his knee.
Vesi shifted enough that she could stretch out onto the bent knee, her front paws holding most of her weight as she watched the cloth move. Ā She snapped her teeth at it when it got close, causing her trainer to laugh into her fur. Ā āQuit itĀ ma chĆ©rie. Ā Youāll miss and bite my fingers and then youāll feel bad and spend all day whining and trying to lick them better.ā
The question had Remy stilling his movements for a moment then seemed to collect himself again, leaning forward to wring the cloth back out. Ā Wet fingers plucked at the bandage on his arm as he answered. Ā āIām⦠looking for someone. Ā So neither of those things. Ā Hoenn wouldnāt be my first choice for a place to visit, itās too hot compared to where I come from, and my Pokemon are suffering. Ā I wouldnāt be here if it wasnāt important.ā Ā Bright grey turned back to watch his own hand move along his leg.
Although with a hint on confusion, she nodded and let him take the rag. She couldnāt exactly argue, though the rule of always seeing to her own messes was one she generally tried to follow to the letter. No longer needed on the floor, she moved back to her feet and instead sat against the edge of the desk.
āIs your Kalosian really that different?ā Luel asked with a tilt of her head. Of course there were customers that often came in, strange words on their tongues and accents she often couldnāt place, but more often than not she thought them just not Kalosian at all. It was easier to believe them different languages entirely than to add more to her list of things to learn.
A small frown formed at his explanation. Hoenn was large, and the crowds were always shifting with new travelers it seemed. Searching for one person in the masses couldnāt be easy, especially if his Pokemonās distress took up some of his attention as well.Ā āDo you have a photo of them? Many people come through our restaurant every day, so perhaps...ā It was a long shot, but she had to at least offer.

Robin turned around, to see a red-headed girl addressing him. He paused, before rubbing the back of his head.
āUh⦠No, Iām fine?ā He said, uncertain of his own words.
She frowned doubtfully. It sounded more like he was asking rather than telling, and it gave her the courage to continue. āI apologize if I overstep my bounds, but I donāt think arguing with your teammate like that will get you very far. Shouldnāt you be working together instead of fighting?ā
Luel Wight:
Iāve just realised I donāt even know if Iām feeding Orchid the right things... A-are there things that dog Pokemon canāt eat? Is there a special diet? I still donāt even know if sheās been caught before, can I check that somehow? Do I have to do anything special to keep a Pokemon in a ball?
Iāve never had to think about these things! M-maybe Iām not fit to own a Pokemon after all!

RĆ©my gave the place a once over, bright grey flickering around quickly. Ā Looked nice, clean, the kind of place Emile wouldnāt turn his nose up at (nothing like the greasy burger joints RĆ©my himself loved). Ā
He sat quietly when he was shown were to go, stretching his legs out in front of him and wrinkling his nose. Ā Tea⦠ It had to be fucking tea. Ā He laughed and tipped his head over the back of the chair, staring up at the ceiling while he waited for the kind stranger to return. Ā āGuess weāre meeting all sorts huh ma chĆ©rie?ā Ā
With a groan he straightened back up when the woman came back, smiling at the praise to his Pokemon. Ā The beast in question just made a noise and climbed onto his wide shoulders, both tails wrapped around his neck. Ā āAh, merci. Ā Her nameās Vesi. Ā And Iām RĆ©my Lachance.ā Ā He smiled and offered his hand out, his accent curling around his name to pronounce it correctly. Ā āMay I ask yours mon amie?ā
Luel grasped his hand gently, giving it a light shake before she released it. āVesi and RĆ©my Lachance. Itās a pleasure to meet you both! My name is Luel Wight.ā A smile was offered to Vesi, respectful of the seemingly shy Pokemon despite her thoughts of just how soft her fur must be. Perhaps she could be convinced into relaxation with some food?
Returning her hands to the water, she removed one of the rags and wrung out the excess.Ā āItās funny how nice it is to hear Kalosian outside of work, now that Iām living here,ā she said as she dabbed the rag against his leg. It was funny, in a way, seeing as how they normally kept the Kalosian to a minimum to appeal to more traveled guests. Now it seemed she only heard it in the form of simple greetings and backtalk behind the scenes to make sure no Hoenn natives chanced overhearing them.Ā āItās not even my first language, but it reminds me of home now.ā
She pushed the edges of sadness away from her tone, determined not to dwell on such things. But also, she made a note to see about taking a weekend trip back home soon. A trip to the apartment, maybe down to see her favorite pastry shop with some of the spending money sheād allowed herself to keep.Ā āAre you here for vacation, monsieur? Or living here, perhaps? I donāt wish to assume, but Iām new to this area myself, so itās hard for me to tell.ā

āCome on, Gladius. Donāt chicken out on me now.ā
The Gallade folded his arms and stood with his back to his trainer.Ā āNo. I refuse.ā
āGlade, you said you wanted us to start training again-ā
āI said I want to start training again! What you are asking me to do could hurt you badly!ā
Robin sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, āYes, I know. Which is why Iām wanting us to start slow. I need practice too.ā
The trainer and psychic PokĆ©mon kept arguing back and forth with each other, so engrossed in their argument that they didnāt realize somebody was close byā¦
Two pairs of eyes looked from the man to his Pokemon, quietly watching the argument that didnāt really seem to be going anywhere.
"Donāt Pokemon trainers usually work better with their Pokemon?ā Luel whispered down to the pink dog in her arms. Orchid simply snorted her displeasure, completely uninterested.
Luel took a step closer, speaking up to try and grab their attention. āUm... Monsieur? Monsieur, do you need any help?ā She couldnāt claim to know the first thing about actual training, but arguing with your Pokemon was probably not how it went...

āYouāre not going to take no for an answer are you petit Ć©tranger?ā Ā A small smile settled on his mouth, wiping away the disgust for now as he nodded and made to follow the far shorter girl inside. Ā
Vesi whined once, causing Remy to stop and look back at her. Ā She was hesitating, not wanting to go inside and let herself be surrounded by unfamiliar faces. Ā A small flicker across his face, a tiny hint of sadness then he crouched down. Ā āCome onĀ ma chĆ©rie.ā Ā That was all it took to get her moving again. Ā The Floatzel darted forward and jumped, aiming to hit the arm that wasnāt bandaged. Ā
A laugh was buried into her bright orange fur as Remy caught her, hugging her to his chest with one arm. Ā āSorry about that mon amie, please, lead the way.ā Ā He looked to the girl from over Vesiās back, the water type trying to climb up onto his shoulders and failing rather miserably.
Luel let out a laugh, shaking her head.Ā āNon, grand Ć©tranger! I couldnāt possibly let you pay after this, and it makes me happy to make otherās days better. If food can do that andĀ be an acceptable apology, then itās just two birds with one stone!ā
Taking just a moment to scoop up the (now empty) tea container, she ushered him inside. To her coworkerās confused looks she just sent sheepish grins and a small shake of her head, offering no explanations until sheād offered the man a set in the office just to the side of the kitchens.
As she hurried off to exchange the tea container for a small bucket of lukewarm water and several rags, however, one of them forced her to admit at least that the tea hadnāt all made it onto the ground. When she returned to Remy, it was with an uproar of laughter from her coworkers and a blush blazing across her face once more.Ā
āYour Pokemon, sheās very cute,ā she said to change the subject as she knelt down, setting the bucket on the floor and submerging two of the rags, the dry one keeping residence slung over her shoulder.Ā āWhat is her name? And yours?ā
((I could kiss Ry for how amazing this new theme looks - thank you so so soĀ much!))

A Slight Homesickness
Brushing the pink pup was quickly becoming a relaxing evening tradition. Slow and gentle strokes, focusing on nothing but the soft sound of the bristles through her fur and the patterns the brush dragged down her back. Luel sat them on a cushion situated on the floor beside the door to the balcony, just inside it with the glass pushed aside to let in the ocean-scented breeze flow in.
The first night, sheād settled out on the balcony itself. But it had turned out that Jack regularly took midnight cigarettes on his balcony just beside hers and as much as she enjoyed his company in the day, and despite his being overjoyed to strike up conversation, it just seemed like they both could use the time to themselves to unwind.
āSometime soon, Iāll bring you back to Kalos, so you can see my real home,ā she whispered to Orchid, the fingers of her free hand idly scratching light circles in the dogās chest. āItās not as warm as it is here, but itās so pretty. You can sit on the roof and see the whole city from there, all of the lights and people running around.ā
Orchid gave a noise that Luel took to mean a happy agreement to her suggestion, purring a quiet ābuuuuuullā and leaning forward into the scratches. Only quick thinking and reflexes had her straightening her hand out to carefully push the pup back on her lap, saving her from faceplanting to the floor.
Luel laughed, light and quiet and only partially tinged with the sort of sadness that only homesickness could bring about. āAnd youāll meet my sister. Sooner, maybe, depending on when she visits next. Sheās a little hard to understand sometimes, and she can seem like sheās mean, but I promise that sheās one of the best people youāll ever meet. Youāll love Lamia just as much as I doā¦ā
Ah⦠Um, you can always see a PokĆ©mon Contest. Even if thereās not a Contest Hall where you are, they usually broadcast them on television I thinkā¦?
And thereās a few museums and stuff, um, thereās⦠Gyms⦠and hot springs in Lavaridge Town, andā¦. umā¦. probably some more thingsā¦
ā¦Sorry if thatās not very helpful.
Oh! Iāve never gone to see a Pokemon contest before! Theyāre really popular here, right? With actual buildings for them that you can go to? Iād think that going in person would be much more exciting than seeing it on TV!
I wouldnāt be very good around a gym, I'd be a horrible trainer even if I tried... But youāve been super helpful! Thank you so much!
Whatās your name, by the way? Mineās Luel!
Luel Wight:
So, a question for Hoenn locals!
Whatās some fun activities to do around here? If Iām going to be here a while, I canāt just duck out to Kalos every time I want to go out! And I should meet new people around here too, right?
A little closer to Kalos in regards to the weather. Actual seasons, instead of the constant summer that Hoenn seems locked in. Ghastly thing really, considering how easy it is for me to burnā¦
While its an island much like here, we donāt seem as fixated on water as Hoenn is, although the majority of it is all connected, again, unlike Hoenn with itās floating island towns and flooded volcanoes.
How interesting! It sounds like a wonderful place, your home~
You burn easily? That must make it really hard for you here... But you could always carry around those pretty parasols to help! I know Iāve seen shops in Lumiose that carries them, but there just has to be some here that would keep them as well!
So much friendship going around... Itās wonderful, even if Iām a little jealous...
Except the bread throwing stuff, I donāt think I want that part.

Vesi continued to lick at his leg, despite the narrowed eyes look heād given her. It tickled and felt strange at the same time but even the shift of his leg away from her didnāt deter her. āYouāre disgusting ma cheriĆ©.ā
As the girl rambled as to what happened, Remy just shook his head. Heād seen what had happened. āAn accident, Iām not angry.ā He offered her a small smile, keeping his teeth covered. The shark like quality wouldnāt do much to reassure her.
Really though, of all the things it could have been, it had to be tea⦠Remy felt his nose wrinkle at the smell, he really couldnāt stand the stuff. It was Emileās drink of choice, the siblings bickering over the smell of each other preference, claiming disgust and nausea around smiles and into cup that hid their grins.
āPerhaps let me clean up? The mealā¦ā His stomach decided to interrupt and protest what would have been a polite decline with a rumble, reminding him that it had been too long since heās last eaten. āWould be fine, but Iāll pay.ā
It was clear on the manās face that he was a little more displeased than he let on, if the slight disgust she could read in his expression was to be understood as such.Ā āOf course, of course! Please, come on in, thereās plenty of rags in the back,ā she insisted with a wave toward the restaurant. She could lead him to the back, the office had a chair if he wanted some semblance of privacy to clean up.
Green eyes glanced down at his stomach as it gurgled an interruption, and she giggled.Ā āItās the least I can do to make it up to you! If it makes you feel better about it, I do get one free meal here a day.ā She was hardly a stranger to going without a meal here and there, and even then, the crew wouldnāt let her starve.
āPlease? For me?ā She continued, head tilted and hands clasped hopefully in front of her as she looked up at him. Luel desperately wanted to make things right, even if the man was kind enough to not want to put her out despite everything. Especially so, really.
The happiest moment in your life?
Probably when I got my job! I was so nervous, and we were in such desperate need of money. I didnāt have any experience, but... they let me prove I was worth keeping. Iām so happy they did!
