but i wanna hear your defense of grace
Simple: Grace was a mother protecting her daughter.
Lisa had no idea what was going on with her parents back at the Juke Joint, so it’s not hard to believe that she would’ve let her father into the store, thus getting her killed and possibly turned. Grace only killed one person, yes: that person being her husband, because then he wouldn’t be used as a means to get access to Lisa.
I’ve seen arguments being made that they could’ve waited another couple of minutes; okay, say they did? Now what? Are they supposed to abandon their community, continuing running—never establishing a true home—in the hopes that the vampires don’t eventually catch up to them? Bo would’ve caught up to Grace eventually, there’s only so much hiding you can do.
Not to mention, the vampires weren’t the only active threat. They still had the Klan on their tail, a whole group with an arsenal of weapons and people to back them up. Plain and simple, it’s easy for us to say we would’ve done this or that, because we have never been put in that predicament. Grace was acting like a mom who was terrified of her baby being hurt, and sorry to say, that trumps people you knew way back in the day.
Additionally, Ryan Coogler also had to do an interview in defense of Grace because of how much hate she was getting. Do with that what you will.
None of the people in that juke joint had kids that were in immediate danger; it was easy for them to tell her to wait, they all had each other.
“No POC solidarity—” So this is going to shock you, but some people of color have kids. Some have kids that they care very deeply about, kids that they would do absolutely anything for.
I hate that “solidarity between people of color doesn’t exist” is a topic even being entertained right now, because it’s clear you guys think that the woman who sacrificed herself to save her baby girl was a selfish white-adjacent, just because she didn’t put some co-workers above her family. 💀💀
I love Grace Chow, Grace Chow Did Nothing Wrong, Her Husband Was Fine Af (RIP), GRACE CHOW GET BEHIND ME.
