The story of orange shirt day is widely known, but if you have any kids who you want to teach, or want to support Phyllis’ story which started a movement, there is an autobiographical picture book I highly recommend: The Orange Shirt Story

If you haven’t watched We Were Children yet, I recommend this as well, it’s a documentary of residential school survivors telling their stories. I believe it is on Amazon Prime video. (tw for CSA, abuse, racism, genocidal narratives)

They call it truth and reconciliation day, and yet the magnitude of the discovery of our stolen children shocked a majority of Canada and the world. There will never be reconciliation until they are willing to listen to our truth. 

Please take a moment today to reflect on your allyship, on the history of the land you live on, wear an orange shirt if you can, and think about those children who couldn’t come home, or those who did and had to live with it for the rest of their lives.
