I don’t normally post anything about the cameras I use, but I’ve been enjoying the addition of this Nikon S2 since November last year, to the tune of at least 20 rolls so far. I have a Skopar 25/4 alongside this Nokton 50/1.5 for now, but might move to a 28 or 35 instead. The TEWE Varifinder allows for more accurate framing even with the 50 when I get within 10 feet.
I got this after selling the M3 when its prism separated and was deemed non-repairable by every reliable repair source. A known issue on these old prisms, I decided swapping the shiny paper weight for a working camera was the best, though still painful thing to do. Even with the dedicated, non-parallax compensating 50mm finder window, I am completely in love with this camera. For what it’s worth, it is a sleeper of a classic, with a nice bright rangefinder at 1:1(being able to focus with both eyes open is a very handy thing) and nothing more than what you need. Though there’s some good original Nikkor lenses out there, Voigtlander Cosina’s decision(post year 2000!) to offer modern glass allows an accessible ability to upgrade the optics to a level that will satisfy anyone outside of the most hardcore Leicaphiles out there.
