So. I haven’t been one to follow mangas much. I’d much rather watch a good anime than read and, in all honesty, I think it does just about the same as reading (I watch animes with subtitles so there’s reading xD), except it’s a bit less time consuming in my opinion.
ANYWAY. So I’ve come across some things on my Facebook feed that have made me pretty angry, actually. Well, not angry per se, but extremely disappointed and rage-filled. There. I have seen the one thing I have always dreaded happen in one of the series I have loved so much for the last year or so.
Kaneki/Touka became canon.
All right y’all, hold your horses. I know many of you guys love this ship. I don’t. I hate it, in fact, so much that I got sick to my stomach when I saw ‘previews’ of the latest chapter (where they have sex *cringe*).
Touka isn’t a bad character. I just don’t like her at all. To me, she’s a fucking bitch, and I can’t help but see her that way. I mean sure, Ishida created a strong female character to bring into the series, and that’s fine, it’s nice to see diversity once in a while when watching/reading series who have female characters in a lead/almost-lead role. The thing is, somehow I can’t help but feel like she’s a horrible person.
From what I remember (and bear with me you guys, it’s been at least a year since the last time I watched the anime or tried to read the manga), Touka was a mean little bitch to Kaneki. Some of you might argue that she was just some big tsundere and that she’s sweet and whatnot on the inside. Well, actually no, she isn’t. Her personality is all over the place; one minute she’s being an asshole like she usually is, the other the series wants you to sympathize with her, then she’s back to being an ass to Kaneki. Her ‘feelings’ are so scrambled that I couldn’t get a clear picture of whether or not she liked him or not. Ishida did try to create a strong lead female for the series, and I respect him for that, but in the end she’s pretty much like any other female character; emotionally dependant, all over the place.
In my eyes, she’s just doing what she does for attention. I don’t care about her one bit. If she died in the series, I’d be happy, I’d grin like an idiot and dance with joy. Like seriously. She’s being an asshole to him the entire time, and I’m expected to believe she has feelings for him, and that he has feelings for her? I’m sorry, but I call bullshit on this one.
I respect Ishida and the choices he makes for this series. Except this choice. Making Touka and Kaneki hook up was an extremely horrible idea. For one, Touka is supposed to be independant, able to take on anything on her own. But she’s pretty much like any other female character in all the series in the world. She’s emotionally dependant of Kaneki, and that fact makes me cringe so badly (though the fact that they have sex together makes me cringe even more).
Hell, I’m not a big fan of yaoi (I’ve only recently began to enjoy it, huehue), but I would’ve prefered immensely that the series makes use of the bond there was between Kaneki and Hide. That would have been 1000% more interesting to read about than what Ishida has done. I mean, at least there would have been a slight bit of logic into bringing these two together.
And on a finishing note, I’ll say just as my friend and I figured when we saw those horrible images of the horrible couple; I bet that Touka’s going to end up being pregnant with Kaneki’s child, he’ll end up dead somehow, and the bitch is going to be mother to the One-Eyed King’s child.
The cringe shall be real if that’s what happens. Please make it so that it doesn’t. I don’t want to see a child born of that relationship. Or, if it happens, please make it so that Touka dies before the kid can be born. It’ll be appreciated.
