man i was reading this book because it had this interesting premise about death but the prose was so awkwardly metaphorical and i was just like UGH this is just too AI-ish for me but surely she wouldn't use AI right she has a lot of previous books -

That's…..that's not what she meant at all but at this point she doesn't feel like saying anything again, i guess he's just like that. almost as concerning as the speed of which the oversized cup was empty before she could even put the bottle aside in the first place.

" Oh ? I sure would, is that gonna be your payment for the drink ? " she ends up pouring whatever was left from the bottle in his cup, BUT makes sure to keep it in her hand and not give it to him just yet.

He stares at her, disappointment shadowing his eyes. Humans were stupid. Nothing he could do about that.

"No." He wiggles around on her lap until he finds the pocket he keeps it in. "It's mine." He pulls out a coin almost bigger than his two tiny hands and lets the light shimmer off its surface, worn with age.

"It's older than you." He nods and reaches for the cup. "And this whole town."

He stares at her for a moment before nodding and blinking his eyes one singular time, looking somewhat like a scrawny owl for an instant before he eagerly reaches for the cup and starts sucking it down as fast as he can.

All while doing his best to avoid her too-pinchy fingers.

When he finishes his drink, he pushes the empty cup back at her, hoping for a refill.

"Do you want to see my coin?"
