Ok, so the Ao3 site went down on my birthday. On a day where I was so looking forward to eating my cake and shutting out the world for a bit of delicious fic reading, as a treat, I was forced to interact with family and friends due to my not having access to my ‘Marked for later’ list. 

KIDDING! I had my downloads handy to save the day! :D

Ok, I admit I am kidding on my kidding  (I am grateful for spending my special day with fam and friends), BUT I had enormous peace of mind throughout it, knowing that at the end of the day, I could indulge in fics that I have hoarded away in my downloads folder. Moo haha ha haaaaaaaa. < this is a laugh of deep self-satisfaction

And because I like gift giving as much as receiving, I am sharing a leeeeetle bit of my hoard with you. As usual, these are not rated in order, these were chosen as a random sampler of what I have downloaded on my drive. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

I fucking screamed. I fucking whisper-screamed out loud at how good this fic is when I read it. And that was on my second read. Honestly, it’s because of fics like this one that I’m so hyper fixated in love with these characters. Part of a series word pictures picture words which is driving me nuts because I can’t find the pictures for the words (pouts)

(Ya Got) Trouble by Chatvert

I wish that it was finished but really it doesn't matter. I encourage you to download and enjoy the journey. This fic has some of the *best* Maya lines:

I LOVE the banter between the characters in this one! Sweet and sexy, and a soft, gentle portrayal of my favourite characters in a canon adjacent universe.

Rating: T and E   Words: 103,194 and 9,042 respectively Read time: 7 hours and 17 mins respectively This thing is MAGNIFICANT! It's a murder mystery mansion case fic, it's a Narumitsu pining fic, it's an 'only one bed' fic and so, so, SOOOOO much more! Richly crafted with attention to details including customized sprites and illustration, pun-named OCs, game audio clips(!) and evidence binders, you will get all the same feels the game gives you plus. It honestly feels like I've unlocked some sort of secret extra character backstory with smut edition of the game and I am loving it! Mind the tags though. It *is* a leeetle bit of a heartbreaker, but not in a way that is written without hope. It definitely left me craving more in a good way.

These fics are perfect! Tears! TEARS!! In my eyes from laughing so hard. So sweet! So romantic! So silly! So good. Hiiiiighly, highly recommended. I tried reading these out loud to my bestie and couldn’t make it through without cracking up.

One of those fics I find myself returning to again and again. It just makes me smile and my only complaint is that it is too short. I love this Miles and this Phoenix. Featuring a very loveable drunk Miles, our favourite responsible caretaker Phoenix, and a Pess with delicate kidneys!

Rating: M (I would put an E on it)  Words: 4,693 Read time: 20 mins

Not gonna lie, this fic is for those that appreciate a more a cynical look at love but oh, it stays with you for a looooong while. It’s does not pull any punches. Phoenix is quite honestly, a bit of an asshole in it. However, I think it is perfect. A really creative and unique hanaki story. Probably the best I’ve read. Recommended if you likes your beauty cut with a little pain. (Seriously my lungs kinda hurt at the end of this. 🫁 🌸)

I love this story. However, full disclosure, it is a work in progress. I still downloaded it and recommend you do the same, because the first two chapters are so strong they could be a stand alone story.

You and Me and My Ghost Roommate Makes Three by Northernflicker

This is so, soo, soooo much more than a quirky ghost story (and it is a *the best-est* ghost story!). It’s such a funny, sweet, sad and beautiful take of loneliness, letting go and keeping love. I’ve literally got tears running down my cheeks as I’m writing this (in a good way). I wrote in my bookmark: “Am going to go sob for a while, reread it and call my sweetie.” so of course I downloaded it.

4 fic themes in 1! This mafia/baker AU fic is also a seasonal Christmas Case fic and inspired baking fic! It is such a satisfying and entertaining read. The level of detail invested by the author is ‘just right.’ The characterization is some of the best I’ve ever come across. The balance between humour, angst and tenderness is on point. Just gorgeous, I think reading this will become an annual tradition for me. Aaaand!!! It’s in the form of an advent calendar for the New Year! A chapter a day for the month of December! What’s not to love about that? So do yourself a favour and download it so you won’t be caught short on December 1st.

Life changing fic:

Begone Dull Care by VivaRocksteady

Rating: M  Words: 45,903 Read time: 3 hours

This story is a canon adjacent au where Phoenix and other characters work in a hospital and Edgeworth ends up in the ER after hurting himself. It is beautifully and sensitively written. I learned a lot, and maybe healed a bit too. Downloaded for obvious reasons.

Gah!!! So.Damn.Good. I have come back and read it again and again. and again. The one that takes place in Germany with Phoenix and Miles finishing off a bottle together. I don’t know why I am so obsessed with it but I am. Some things you can’t explain, you just need to download so you can hold it gently to your chest and whisper ‘my precious’ to it.

In Commemoration of the Conquest of the Air by realizationtime

I am not the only person in the comment section who called this fic art. It is so beautifully and sensitively written. It's by the same author as ‘The Reasonable Man Test’ and  The Soulless and Soulful Sunshine State - two other fics that I would appreciate my loved ones harvesting from my downloads, printing up and popping them in my coffin to not only keep me company in the afterlife, but for the benefit of any future archaeologists who might want to dig up and read some gut-punching yet comforting, stunningly beautiful works about the human condition, getting past trauma, and the hard work it takes to build trust and love again. Plot-wise, this fic follows Miles coming to terms with his feelings for Phoenix over about a decade. However, art-wise, this is about taking well established lines and colouring creativity between them to give us something new. These works are my treasure and they needed to be downloaded and treated as such. 🤍🤍🤍
