Things I am anxious about:

- Meeting with the HR manager in work tomorrow (uh, today) - Not knowing enough at the Marvel quiz - The fact that my mother hasn’t spoken to me since 2pm on Sunday… even though we live in the same house - My best friend has been super distant lately and keeps cancelling plans - I still don’t know that that one guy (who Andy from Parks and Rec reminds me of) isn’t going to ask me out - Other close friend (Second best friend?) told me last time we met up that he felt like there was tension in our friendship and now I haven’t seen him in over a month - It’s 3am and I have work at 7am and it’s a nine and a half hour shift - I’ve applied for a job I’m probably not good enough for and I don’t know what to do if I don’t get it - My last panic attack was so much worse than usual and they’re probably going to keep getting worse and worse - I am a walking disaster

This is a wild thing to do, but I was looking through some old posts and found this doozy from July 2015. Do not remember sharing so much personal venting on this blog but the updates on this post are: 1. I left that job for a better one 7 months later, stayed in that for a year, and then moved 19,000km away 2. The best friend I was talking about broke all contact with me about a month after this post, he touched base again a few months later to apologise but took less than an hour to snap and get mad at me for not jumping for joy that he was talking to me again, we haven't spoken since then 3. "That one guy" did not ever ask me on a date, we're still friends but don't talk all that much, I guested on his podcast with my partner last year 4. The "second best friend" I assume is the person I now consider my best friend and we're still very close despite living on separate continents, we're playing D&D this weekend 5. I'm still anxious but don't get a lot of big panic attacks these days

When I criticize jk Rowling do not assume I always hated Harry Potter. I knitted hogwarts house scarves. I got my first binder to dress as Draco Malfoy for Halloween. I reread the books multiple times. I read probably every pottermore article there was at the time.

I’m not here to validate your smug feelings about not liking a children’s book series 20 years ago. I’m here to discourage others from spending money on it and to give myself and others words and space to work through some feelings. I’m a trans person that made Harry Potter one of my cornerstone interests. One of my favorite things. I’m not some cis person doing cope.

Harry Potter was a big thing. Like. Big in a way that’s difficult to fully understand. It still is. If you were caught up in it during your formative years it’s normal to need to process all of the horrid things now associated with it.

Having to burn down the house you grew up in is going to be hard even if it turns out that the house was always rotten from the inside out. Even if it turns out that the foundation was made of straw. But the destruction and deconstruction must happen if one hopes to move on and move forward. That’s why I talk about it at all.

My defense: Both movies are about a guy who has a highly specialised and sought after skill that puts him top of his field at work where he is mentored by the head of the company who, it turns out, is deceiving both him and the entire public and goes to extreme lengths to keep his company from going under when it becomes clear it is unethical, and our main guy has to question everything he knows and go up against the company and his mentor with the help of a sort-of-but-not-quite-kidnapped young girl that he is harbouring/helping while others are seeking out both of them.
