He knew something was up when it was five minutes past 9:00. Tav is always up by 8:30, readying breakfast and stretching for the day. Astarion looks around the camp, making sure they hadn’t stalked off to bathe in the river. He lets out a soft sigh before walking over to their tent. He carefully pulls the flap back and peeks inside. “Darling? Why aren’t you up yet?” Astarion speaks into the tarped fort, his gaze landing on the lump in the bedroll in the far right corner. His pointed ears pick up on the soft grumble Tav emits in response; he lets out a short hum of confusion before kicking off his boots and stepping inside Tav’s tent. He crouches down beside them and pushes on their shoulder, his hand being swatted away quickly. Astarion brushes his hand across their cheek, feeling the burning skin. “You’re burning up.” He states, taking in their ill appearance, flushed face, burning skin, sniffly nose, and sweaty forehead. “I’m sick.” He barely catches the words Tav manages to mumble; their parched throat aching, he nods before brushing sweat away from their face with their palm. “I gathered. I’ll be back in a moment; keep still.” He says, standing up and leaving the tent to grab a few items, as well as the breakfast Gale had pulled together in Tav’s absence.
By the time he returns, both Shadowheart and Halsin are behind him with healing aid. Astarion carefully adjusts Tav into a sitting position, helping them drink and pressing a cool, damp towel to their forehead while Halsin carefully feeds them medicine, and Shadowheart casts a minor healing spell. “I believe it would be wise for us to not travel today,” Halsin states as he helps Astarion adjust Tav back into a more comfortable position. “Agreed,” Astarion says before shooing Halsin and Shadowheart out of the tent so Tav can rest.
Karlach had noticed their absence rather quickly after returning from a splash in the river to cool down. Normally Tav would be up and about, perhaps conversating with Gale or Wyll, or readying for the day with Lae’zel. However, this morning she hasn’t spotted Tav once; she looks around a moment longer, then jogs over to Gale. “Have you seen Tav this morning yet?” she inquires, interrupting his focus on his book. “Now that you mention it, I have not.” He hums in confusion. “I think I might go check on them then.” She nods towards the tent near the end of camp, quickly turning and walking briskly to the tarped shelter. “Soldier? Are you alright?” Her voice calls outside the flap; hearing a low groan in response, she pushes on the flap, stepping inside, spotting Tav bundled up under their bedroll and three other furs, shivering with mild chattering teeth. “I-i don’t feel so good, it’s so c-cold.” Tav stutters as they bury their face in the furs. Karlach gasps in concern, crouching down next to Tav and pressing her warm palm to their burning forehead; Tav unconsciously leans into the warm touch. Karlach notices the movement and sits down before tugging Tav into her lap, wrapping her arms around them. Tav snuggles into the tiefling's warmth quickly, pressing their face above her infernal engine of a heart, using it like a heating pad on their cheek. “Just rest, Soldier; we can save the world tomorrow,” Karlach whispers, brushing her lips over their temple in a soft kiss.
Gale wakes up and goes to grab some fresh water but overhears a concerning noise from Tav’s tent; he travels over to the shabby sanctum, knocking on the wood frame. “Dear? Are you alright?” He asks before hearing something akin to a gag before it fizzles into a cough; Gale pushes into the tent, grabbing Tav’s wash bucket from beside the door and kneeling beside them, placing the bucket by their head and helping them sit. He brushes their hair out of their face as they bend over the bucket, hurling into it. “Honey.” He hums in concern, rubbing Tav’s back as they continue to cough up into the bucket. He presses his knuckles to their temple, feeling their feverish temp. Gale sighs as they finally let up and lay back down. He stands, grabbing the bucket. “I’ll be back, sweetness; close your eyes and rest.” He coos before leaving to wash the bucket and grab clean water.
Gale returns, placing the rag across Tav’s forehead, supporting their neck with his hand and helping them drink. “I’ll stay with you here tonight and help you feel better. And don’t worry about getting up in the morning; I alerted Halsin that we will be staying another night.” Gale affirms as Tav rests; they nod, eyes fluttering closed and falling asleep quickly.
Minthara is not the caring type, or at least that is what she wants people to believe, but the moment she heard a hoarse cough from Tav’s throat, she ushered Tav into their bedroll. “I will not take your disobedience; retire to your tent at once.” Minthara’s voice echoes around camp as she grabs Tav’s arm, pressing the back of her hand to Tav’s forehead, feeling the heated skin. Minthara practically drags Tav to their tent, pushing them into the shelter. Tav scrambles into their bedroll as Minthara steps inside, a satchel of healing and tonics she borrowed from Shadowheart. Minthara kneels beside Tav, uncorking a bottle and helping them drink a minor healing potion, and propping their head up with pillows. “Thank you, Minthy.” Tav croaks. Minthara pauses before simply shaking her head with a sigh. “Rest now; you can save the thanks for battle.” She says before stepping out of the tent, closing the flaps to ensure complete darkness.
It is near 11:00 PM when he returns from his walk around the forest in bear form. Halsin’s nose picks up on the harrowing smell of sickness coming from Tav’s tent. He can hear soft coughing and sniffling as he approaches their tent. “Tav? Are you feeling alright?” His calming voice calls into the tent; he awaits an answer, picking up on a quiet response: “I think I might be sick.” Halsin hums before stepping into the tent, spotting Tav lying down, their bedroll halfway undone. “It’s so hot.” They whisper as they swipe at their forehead, feverish and overheated. Halsin pads over to them, sitting beside them and pressing a large palm to their head. “You’re burning up; allow me to aid you.” Halsin grabs Tav’s pack, taking out a cloth and grabbing their half-full wash bucket, dipping it into the cool water, carefully ringing it out and pressing it to their forehead. Wiping away the sweat as they sigh in relief, Halsin helps them drink some water and a minor healing potion. Propping them up and moving them off of their bedroll with a light blanket, helping mitigate the heat. Just as Halsin turns to leave, Tav grabs onto his ankle. “Stay and cuddle with me?” They whisper, making him pause before Halsin flops down beside them, tugging them into his side. Tav curls up into him, resting their feverish head upon his chest and slipping into the land of dreams.
Lae’zel picked up on Tav’s sickness before even Tav did. It was right after killing off a hoard of goblins that Lae’zel heard the wheezing breaths with her large ears, picking up on Tav’s exhaustion. “Tch. We push ourselves too hard. We must rest.” Her voice echoes amongst the party, glancing at Tav as they clear their throat in discomfort. The others quickly agree, getting a move on to set up camp. As Tav goes to lift something heavy, Lae’zel gently grabs their bicep. “You are ill, T’lak’ma Ghir/Vhir,” She states to Tav, guiding Tav to sit down. “You require rest and aid.” She says as Tav goes to argue, Lae’zel’s hand moves to Tav’s chest, feeling below their sternum as Tav breathes uneasily, softly wheezing before coughing. “Sit; I will return.” Lae’zel leaves to grab Shadowheart to provide medicine to Tav.
“How are you feeling, Tav?” Shadowheart asks as she crouches down, feeling your forehead, checking the temperature. Lae’zel sits opposite Shadowheart, watching as Shadowheart feeds you some medicine. Lae’zel drapes her arms around Tav’s shoulders, offering comfort. Once Shadowheart leaves, Tav naturally falls against her chest, resting their head in the crook of Lae’zel’s neck, allowing their eyes to fall closed.
Wyll takes notice of fatigue in Tav as of late; during their sparring session, Tav is sluggish and distracted, barely able to lift their sword and parry his advances. While they were suiting up, Tav requires more aid with their armor than usual, barely able to pull on their chest plate. And while out fighting off the true soul followers, they keep stumbling, grabbing at their head in anguish as they narrowly avoid a blow from an attacker. Wyll quickly steps in and takes care of the opponent. However, shortly after they finish the fight, Wyll pulls Tav aside. “I noticed you are having issues, friend.” He says as he pulls their helmet off their head, watching as Tav’s hand moves to their head to massage their temple.
“I think I have a migraine.” They reply. “Why didn’t you tell me earlier? We shouldn’t have been fighting if you were in pain prior.” Wylliam responds, grabbing their shoulders, gently rubbing the muscles there; Tav melts into his touch as he carefully removes any kinks, working up their neck. “I don’t know. . . We were on such a good roll as of late, and I didn’t want to get in the way.” Tav sighs. Wyll’s thumbs roll up behind Tav’s jaw, carefully working behind their ears; the movements easing the pain in their cranium. As he continues his ministrations, he feels Tav’s weight slump against him. Their eyelashes flutter against their cheeks as they allow relaxation to spread from their toes, up their legs, to their torso, and fingers, up, up, up into their shoulders, moving to their neck and head. The migraine is starting to fade away, bringing a wave of sleepiness with its relief. Wyll pauses his massage to help Tav into their tent. Tucking them into their bedroll and closing off all sources of light. “Sleep well, my friend.”
Tav came to Shadowheart with complaints of a stuffy nose and headache. Shadowheart ushers Tav into her tent, helping them sit on the floor, gently feeling their forehead, and taking their temperature before helping them drink down some medicine and a minor healing potion. She recognizes they have come down with a common cold from the Last Light Inn, a simple flu if anything. Shadowheart gently brushes sweat and grime from their face with a wet cloth, and tucks them into her bedroll, elevating their head with her lavish pillows to allow them to breathe more easily with a stuffy nose. She quietly pulls out a deck of cards, noting restlessness in Tav. Shadowheart deals out seven cards for both of them and sets up a simple game of Go Fish, the two of them quietly playing a few rounds until Tav tires out. Shadowheart makes sure to adjust the blankets and pillows one more time before she leaves her tent to allow Tav to get some much-needed rest.
