Integra has been putting in too much work recently. Alucard and Seras are determined to get her to take a rest.
~~~~~~~
The meeting seemed to be dragging on forever. The lords enjoyed droning on and on and normally Integra was able to at least keep up a polite guise. Today, though, she had a pounding headache, and (was definitely not) coming down with something.
The amount of work recently had seemed to skyrocket. Maybe it was something to do with still being in the wake of the Majorâs attempted war, but it seemed like a new rash of vampires and ghouls were cropping up all over England, making it even harder on Hellsing to start rebuilding. With their depleted ranks, it was difficult for them to find enough men to stretch for all the missions so Integra was often pulling double duty herself. Seras and Alucard were, of course, assets, but even they couldnât be everywhere at once.
âAnd now for the finance reportsâLord Berkley?â
Integra pressed her fingers into the bridge of her nose, massaging under the strap of her eyepatch. If someone shot her right now it couldnât be more unpleasant.
When the meeting finally adjourned, Integra politely excused herself. Seras was waiting for her as she left, a grim look on her face.
âSir Integra, Captain Wellings calledâthereâs been another outbreak in Sussex.â
âBloody hell,â Integra growled. âAre Alucard and the other team back yet?â
Seras shook her head. âNo. Theyâre just finishing up, but they wonât be back in time.â
Integra sighed wearily as she led the way to the car. âFine. Weâll head out there then.â
Seras hurried to keep up with her. âSir IntegraâŚumâŚI can go with Captain Wellings and a few men, thereâs no reason you have to come, I know youâreâŚâ
âWhat, Seras?â Integra snapped.
The young vampire hesitated. âWell itâs just that youâve been working so hard recently. I know you havenât been sleeping. Donât you think you should get some rest?â
âMy health is hardly your concern,â Integra told her firmly. âI donât get to rest. Thatâs my job as head of the organization. If my men are out fighting vampires, then so am I.â
âRight,â Seras said quietly.
Integra tried to ignore the urge to cough, her throat annoyingly scratchy. Sheâd love nothing more than a cup of tea right now, to sit her aching body down in the library and take a few hours to herself, but that just wasnât an option.
Two hours later and she was really regretting every decision she had ever made in her life.
The nest had been bigger than they had anticipated, resulting in a desperate fight that had put all of them on their toes. Thankfully, none of Integraâs men had been lost, but there were a few injuries that would have to be tended to.
Integra was trying not to sway on her feet, feeling horribly light-headed as she stood by Captain Wellings as they saw the injured men driven off to the hospital. There was a catch in her chest every time she breathed and she couldnât help a small cough here and there.
Captain Wellings glanced over at her with thinly veiled concern. âAre you well, Sir Integra? You were not injured?â
âNo, just a bit of a seasonal cold Iâm dealing with,â she muttered, attempting to suppress another cough. âWe need to get back to headquarters to properly report civilian casualties. Alucard and his team should be back by now as well to give their report.â
It was just one thing after another. Integra left Seras with the rest of the men to clean up as she and the captain headed back to Hellsing headquarters.
By the time they got back her body was aching even more and she felt oddly chilled. Did she have a damn fever on top of everything else? This was ridiculous. She hardly ever got sick. She didnât have time to get sick now.
She headed to her office and wrote up a quick report before taking a moment to sit with her head in her hands. She took some pain pills from her desk and swallowed them dry, hoping that would help a little.
A knock on the door had her straightening her shoulders and looking up as Wellings appeared.
âAlucard and the others are back, Sir Integra,â he informed.
âAlright, send him here to make his report.â
Integra continued typing as Alucard entered her office a few minutes later.
âIs everything done up north?â she asked.
He nodded. âThe nest is cleared and I looked around the area to make sure we had gotten any and all possible vampires.â He stepped over to the desk, a small smirk on his face as he perched on the edge of it. âYouâre running warmer than usualâare you that eager for my return?â
âShut it,â Integra growled as she finished the report, making to print it out.
Alucard reached out and carefully pressed the backs of his fingers to his cheek. âAre you ill, Integra?â
She jerked her face away from him. âItâs none of your concern. I am fine.â
âYouâre exhausted,â Alucard pointed out. âYou look like you can barely stay upright. You should not have exerted yourself today if you werenât feeling well.â
âThatâs not your place to say,â she told him, annoyedâwith him and her body for betraying her. âIâve been exhausted before, this is hardly going to kill me.â
âIt will take you longer to recover the more you push yourself though,â Alucard pointed out. âYou should rest today so you can start to feel better tomorrow.â
âI really donât need your advice,â Integra snapped. âWhat I need is your detailed report. So either give it to me, or write it out and send it to me like everyone else.â
Alucard sighed. âVery well, Integra.â
He gave his report and left, to Integraâs relief. Alone once again, she leaned back in her chair with a soft groan, closing her eyes for a long moment, bracing herself to continue. She didnât want to admit to how tempting Alucardâs suggestion of resting for the rest of the day sounded. But it was just unrealistic. She didnât have that luxury in her position. Too many people depended on her getting her job done.
She smothered a cough and pushed onward. There was nothing else she could do.
It wasnât much later that Seras came in carrying a cup of steaming tea. She smiled at Integra.
âI thought you might like some tea,â she said sweetly.
Integra speared her with a look. âAlucard told you Iâm sick, didnât he?â
Seras looked slightly hurt. âI bring you tea all the time. But yes, I was also told to convince you to rest.â
Integra growled, barely resisting another cough. âThatâs kind of you to be concerned, but I assure you I am fine, and I will get my work done sooner if everyone will stop bothering me.â
Seras pressed her lips together. âAlright, Sir Integra, butâŚif thereâs anything I can do to help, please let me know.â
âJust keep Alucard away from meâheâs annoyingly fussy.â
âHe cares about you, we both do,â Seras said earnestly.
âI am hardly dying,â Integra snorted. âIt is a seasonal cold, nothing more. Now leave me to my work.â
Seras sighed but turned and left the room.
Integra picked up the tea and sipped at it. She didnât want to admit just how nice it felt on her sore throat.
It was late by the time Integra finished all her work for the night and she was definitely feeling the exhaustion. It had been so long since sheâd felt this weak, it would have made her furious if sheâd had the energy to feel that much right now.
She trudged to her room, barely having the strength to change for bed before she collapsed with a sigh of relief. She shut her eyes and was asleep almost instantly.
The next morning she woke with a start as her alarm went off. She hadnât woken up to her alarm for years, her body trained so well to get up moments before that setting it was little more than a formality. She batted at it clumsily for several seconds before she was able to turn it off.
She tried to roll over with the intention of getting off the bed, but her body just refused. It was so heavy, she felt like she had been turned into lead overnight. Integra groaned, lying there for a few long seconds before she tried again.
Her door opened and she glanced up blearily to see Alucard standing there, a knowing look on his face that she could sense rather than see.
âWhat are you smirking about?â she demanded, voice hoarse.
His expression softened as he came over to the bed and crouched beside her. âMy dear Integra. Do yourself a favor and stay in bed today.â
âOut of the question,â she grunted, finally forcing herself into a sitting position, only for her head to start pounding so much she had to reach up and press her fingers into the bridge of her nose. âHand me my glasses.â
Alucard instead took her hand and kissed the back of it softly. âIâm afraid I canât do that.â
She glowered up at his bleary figure. âExcuse me?â
A second figure appeared in the room then, carrying something.
âGood morning, Sir Integra! I brought you breakfast!â Serasâs voice rang out.
âBreakfast in bed? Absolutely not,â Integra growled.
âAnd why not? You donât deserve a personal day?â Alucard asked smoothly as he swiftly propped her up with pillows while Seras installed the tray across her lap.
Integra finally managed to grab her glasses so she could see the two vampires clearly. She glowered at them. âThis is ridiculous.â She quickly covered her mouth as a cough forced its way out, leaving her doubled over slightly, chest aching.
âIntegra, really. Would you rather take a personal day or let the rest of the organization see you so weak?â Alucard pressed.
Integra glowered up at him. He knew exactly what he was doing. Seras looked concerned, hands clasped in front of her.
She rolled her eyes and picked up the cup of tea. âFine. I will take a few more hours to rest. But you must bring me my work if you insist on my staying in bed.â
âIntegra,â Alucard said warningly.
âSod off, Alucard, I donât get a day off just because Iâm sick.â Integra snapped and promptly coughed again, having to catch her breath.
âBut Sir Integra, you have a fever,â Seras said, concerned. âYou canât work with a fever, itâs too hard to keep your mind on things.â
âItâs only a very low fever, hardly enough to compromise me. Now bring me my work laptop.â
âAfter you eat and take your medicine,â Seras said with a grin, unafraid of Integraâs dark glower.
âIf you ever want a taste of my blood again youâll reconsider, girl,â she snapped.
âI say let her work until her head aches,â Alucard spoke up then with an annoying amount of amusement. âYouâre not going to stop her, Seras.â
Seras sighed and hurried off. âAlright, Iâll get the laptop.â
Integra relaxed slightly, having won that argument and turned back to her tea. It really was soothing on her throat.
Alucard sat down on the side of the bed, facing her. âTell me, Integra, how many times have you had the luxury of staying in bed all day?â
She snorted. âNever.â
âExactly,â he smiled pointedly. âSo why not take the opportunity today? Finish your reports if you must, and then let me entertain you.â
Integra gave him a look. âAnd what makes you think I am in the mood for your brand of entertainment, Alucard?â
He smiled softly, chuckling as he leaned in to kiss her forehead. âYou always think so ill of me, my Master. I am not simply a needy beast. I assure you I am quite capable of simple companionship. Especially when you are not feeling at your best.â He grinned. âUnless of course you wish for me to entertain you in moreâŚsordid ways.â
She growled and pushed him away. âDonât test your luck. You know well enough I always keep a gun with silver bullets under my pillow.â
Alucard grinned. âI am well aware.â
He stood and went over to the side of her room where a dusty record player sat. He blew off the dust and bent to riffle through the vinyls before pulling one out. Integra watched him work until the opening movement of the Moonlight Sonata began to play.
âRemember that night we danced alone in the moonlight?â Alucard asked her.
âHmm,â Integra murmured, suddenly feeling rather soothed by the music. She did remember. One of the few times they could allow themselves a night together, the windows wide open as the light of the full moon spilled in, dancing to Beethoven, swaying slightly in each otherâs arms, all cares cast aside for the moment.
Alucard came back to the bed, removing his coat and climbing up next to her as she set her finished breakfast tray aside. He pulled her in, resting his cheek against her forehead. His cool skin felt rather nice against her fevered flesh. She found herself shutting her aching eyes despite herself.
âSeras is taking quite a while getting my laptop,â she pointed out.
âIs that so bad?â Alucard asked with a smirk.
Integra finally realized that he had effectively âtrappedâ her and she was frankly too tired to do much about it. It feltâŚadmittedly rather nice, just sitting there curled up against Alucard.
âShall I read to you to pass the time?â he asked her, pulling a book from her bedside table.
âI suppose so. My eyes hurt too much to read today,â she replied with a huff.
Alucard smiled and tucked her closer to him as he started to read. His voice was deep and soothing and Integra sunk lower, her cheek resting on his chest as she allowed her eyes to close, easing the aching in her head just a bit.
The words eventually faded away as she slipped off, her breathing, while still raspy, evening out a little.
When Seras finally did return, peeking in, Alucard shot her a wink and a grin as he nodded to Integra, dead to the world, resting against him.
Seras closed the door quietly and tip-toed away. They had successfully managed to get Integra to take the day off to rest. Mission accomplished.
𩸠âThe Baptism of Rubyâ â The Sacred Unmaking
~
âYou need a name,â he murmurs, voice low and electric. âSomething worthy of what you are now.â
He kisses her temple, just once.
âRuby,â he whispers. âFor the jewel youâve become... and the blood you wear so beautifully.â
~
The chapel had long been abandoned, the rotted wood the stained worn color of dandelion yellow.
What once housed solemn hymns now echoed with the murmur of something olderâsomething darker. Candles flickered like nervous heartbeats. The stained-glass saints watched through fractured panes, their faces warped into silent screams by the flicker of flame and shadow.
In the center, the girl knelt.
NoâRuby knelt.
âRuby,â he whispers through the memory of her prayers.
Naked, save for the crimson handprint across her chest, left there by Alucardâs palm. Her hair clung to her skin in damp clumps, her eyes wide, unblinking. Awaiting judgment. No... ascension.
From behind the altar, Integra emerged. Regal, composed, her boots clicking like the ticking of fate. Her shirt unbuttoned dangerously low, her eyes trailed downwards; The cigar smoke precedes her like a ghost
Alucard followed in her wake like a curse dressed in silk and shadows. He carried a silver bowlâornate, etched with scripture in Latin and madness. It sloshed gently with the sacred blood of their enemies, freshly taken from a high priest whose last breath was a hymn to a deaf God.
âDo you renounce your former vows?â Integra asked, her voice smooth and cold as blade steel.
Ruby didnât flinch. âI do.â
âFor the jewel youâve becomeâ
âDo you forsake their God?â Alucard cooed, crouching before her, tilting her chin up with a bloodstained glove.
âI do.â
âDo you pledge your body,â Integra said, circling her like a predator in commandment robes, âyour will, your hungerâto us?â
âand the blood you wear so beautifully.â
âTo you,â Ruby whispered, trembling not with fear, but something deeper. Something ecstatic. âAlways.â
Alucardâs smile was slow. âThen rise, child of crimson.â
But firstâthe blood.
Integra dipped her fingers into the bowl and drew a line from Rubyâs throat to her sternum, then across each shoulder. âIn the name of death, we mark you.â
Alucard followed, pushing Ruby back until she lay across the stone altar, arms outstretched like a sacrifice too sacred to burn. He poured the bowl slowly over her chest, letting the thick, hot blood trail down her ribs, pool in her collarbones, paint her thighs.
âIn the name of war,â he growled, licking a droplet from her navel, âwe claim you.â
âAnd in the name of us,â Integra said, now close enough for Ruby to feel her breath, âwe baptize you. You are no longer theirs.â
Integra leaned down, and kissed herâchaste, but electric. A final seal.
Alucard followed with his mouth to her throat, whispering against her pulse, âYou are Ruby. Our Ruby. Our sacred sin".
The candles flared as if answering the rite. The chapel groaned, ancient and awakened. Outside, the sky cracked open with thunder.
Nights that leave Walter thinking a little more than he should.
Heâs always had a terrible habit of getting stuck in his own head, thinking too much about things that are out of his control.
The outside air was cold, the breeze blowing enough to chap skin and numb fingertips.
The leaves from the past seasonâs foliage had fallen onto the ground, coating the manorâs courtyard in a crunchy orange blanket.
A waft of cigarette smoke drifted through the window as Walter leaned against the windowsill, his icy grey eyes tracing the outside scenery.
The scent of the smoke filled the sitting room as the draft from the window blew some of the smoke back inside, combining with the warm scent of beeswax from his freshly polished pistol lying nearby.
He had already tuned out the sound of the gramophone spinning his favorite record in the background, consumed by his own thoughts.
âYou seem busy.â
That irritating, grating voice.
Walter scoffs, his fingers pulling the cigarette from his lips and stubbing it out on the well-used ashtray on the windowsill.
âWhat is it this time?â
He responds curtly as he blows a plume of smoke out the window, turning his attention to the source of his irritation.
Walter doesnât like being interrupted when heâs so deep in thought. It feels like heâs in the middle of something important, though he knows he isnât. Still, itâs really annoying.
Standing by the velvet tasseled loveseat by the fireplace is a familiar face, one that belongs to the Hellsing trump card, Alucard.
He stands as still as a Grecian statue, having seemingly materialized out of nowhere. He looms just a few feet away from Walter, an unsettling but familiar grin plastered on his ghostly white features.
The vampire narrows his eyes ever so slightly before responding, his voice refined and calm, but laced with condescension. It reminds Walter of whiskey; smooth in essence, but burning on the way down.
âDo you think a monster is born or created?â
Walter blinks. The question feels out of place. Unexpected. Though, then again, everything in this organization does. Walter takes a moment to think before giving his answer, glancing over his shoulder at him.
âCreated, maybe. Evil is a learned behavior.â
Alucard lets out a dark chuckle at his answer, shaking his head ever so slightly.
âSuch a naĂŻve answer.â
Walter frowns.
âIâm not in the mood for this.â
Alucard doesnât respond to his dismissal, slowly approaching behind the butler with his gloved hands clasped behind his back like a lecturer inspecting a studentâs work.
âYouâve been trained to believe monsters make themselves,â he says, his voice calculating.
âItâs much easier to kill something you believe chose to be damned.â
Walterâs grip tightens on the windowsill, vexation dripping into his tone.
âIf something kills innocent people, I donât care how it came to exist.â
Alucard stops behind him.
âAh,â the vampire murmurs. âSo the sin erases the story.â
Walter rolls his eyes so hard it almost hurts.
âShould it not?â
For the first time, Alucardâs smile thins.
âThen by that logic,â he says quietly, âyou are simply another executioner in training.â
Walterâs pulse stutters beneath his pale skin. He whips around to face him, speaking through gritted teeth, his fists clenched at his sides.
âI am not. I donât enjoy killing,â he snaps, taking a small, shaky breath in a failed attempt at saving face before continuing.
âIâm not like you.â
Alucardâs red eyes flick down to his wristâright where his hidden wires rest. The wires he knows have taken the lives of countless undead creatures of the night.
âEnjoyment is irrelevant,â he replies.
âAction is what defines the monster.â
Walter swallows. âSo what does that make you?â
Alucard leans down just enough that his shadow swallows Walterâs; close enough for him to smell the iron and corpse rot on his breath.
âMore complex than your definition,â he says in a dangerously quiet voice.
âAnd far beyond your own comprehension.â
Walter stands his ground anyway, like a kitten raising its hackles and hissing at a mountain lion.
âIf monsters are born into this world, as youâre implying,â he says, âthen they can be taken out of it.â
âCareful. Thatâs the kind of thinking that gets little butlers promoted to martyrs,â Alucard murmurs, his grin returning in full force like a right hook to the face.
Walter canât help but freeze in place for a moment. He knows full well of the vampireâs capabilities, having seen them firsthand. It terrifies him beyond words.
Still, despite being a butler, he is a soldier too. A soldier cannot falter, even when faced with something out of his caliber.
âYou forget that Iâm not the one the Hellsing organization keeps on a leash.â
Alucard doesnât seem to like that too much. Walter can see his eyes narrow ever so slightly in response.
âAnd you forget, little one,â he says, âyou can be replaced at the drop of a hat.â
His grin widens almost impossibly, a chilling look in his eyes that Walter canât put a name to.
âYou are a child playing with an extinction button. The heat of battle has barely marred your skin. Once youâve been bested on the battlefield and meet your maker, theyâll have your job position posted by morning.â
Alucard leans even closer, chills running down Walterâs spine.
âYouâll be an afterthought. Forgotten and left to rot, buried under a rock. The dead are nothing but trash.â
Walter wears the look of a deer caught in the headlights of a semi-truck. It feels like heâs been hit by one, too. But before he can move his lips to respond, Alucard vanishes in the blink of an eye.
He stands in silence for what feels like an eternity, staring blankly at the wall. Deep within his gut, a pit of despair and rage fills him, his teeth clenching. He runs a hand through his shaggy black hair, pulling another cigarette from his pack.
That is the reality of being a soldier. Not just for Hellsing, but in general. You pay your respects, and then you move on. Youâre forgotten. Eventually, Walter knows that will be his fate.
How do you think yandere Anderson, Walter, Captain, alucard, and enrico would react to a reader that is just unfazed by everything, just completely be chill about being locked up in there basement/room. They're just like "at least I don't have to pay tax anymore".
Thanks Anon, this one was low key fun to do!
Request: Yep!
Warnings: None really
Characters: Alucard, Anderson,Walter, Enrico, The Captain,
Alucard
âYouâre telling me you donât want to leave?â
Heâs shocked, amused is a better word really. After learning that not only are Vampires real, there at least two entire organizations tasked with killed rampant ones, and heâs turned you into one himself, your only question is: So I live here for free? He actually starts laughing when he realises you really just donât care that heâs kidnapped you.
âDo you realise how hard it is to find a man who will take care of you? Iâll take the free, if questionable, housing and lack of silverware!â
Father Anderson
âWell that saves me a wee bit of trouble, thank you lass!â
He is absolutely delighted that you want to stay with him. He dislikes being rough with his little love so being able to have you so compliant is perfect for him. He gets concerned with his happy you are to stay in a single room all day so because you are so well behaved, he takes you out for walks and to play with the children.
âI like being in my room, I donât have responsibilities and I get to play with kids all day, why would I want to leave?â
Walter C. Dornez
âVery good Butterfly, I wonât have to clean up after all.â
Heâs a bit weary, youâd be fine living with a butler who takes care of an estate housing a dangerous vampire? Because you donât want to deal with being an adult? To him itâs odd, absurd almost. Over time he believes that you simply donât care about the circumstances anymore and will happily move you from the dungeons of the estate to his quarters. He even gets Integra to give you a job as a means to help around, he doesnât want you getting *too* lazy after all. Some responsibility is good responsibility in his eyes.
âWalter, you take care of me and I get gourmet meals for almost every mealâŚwhy would I leave?â
Enrico Maxwell
âReally? Well in that case how about I take you shopping?â
Enrico is absolutely delighted by this, and in eyes this is exactly how you should have reacted so heâs more than thankful for your easy cooperation. Heâs quick to take you out having full confidence that youâll stay by his side and you do. He introduces you to Father Anderson and brings you to his âvisitsâ with Integra who is surprisingly amicable despite what he says (only for your sake). He tries to keep you away from the grand scheme of things, however should you find out heâs shocked to know that you prefer to stay with him (not that you ever had a choice).
âI get pampered and protect from monsters, why would I leave?â
The Captain
âYou..want to stay?â
He isâŚvery confused. However, if youâre nice to him heâll be nice to you and heâs got no problem relaxing with you when he isnât doing anything. Being a werewolf, heâs very comfortable with cuddling you and you almost forget what he is and the kind of life he leads because of how well he tends to separate things. Aside from being a murderer of sorts, heâs an exemplary man and you couldnât be happier. There isnât a whole lot of talking, but there is a whole lot of cuddling.
Okay but here me out, fic idea. Your fav enemies to lovers ship in a corporate office au. There rivalry is getting out of hand so their boss has HR send them out on a get away in hope they'll find common ground and stop fighting. (Little do they know, the office can see the tension) Which they "accidentally" get sent to a couple's retreat. One bed, forced proximity, enemies to lovers, maybe hurt/comfort if something goes wrong on the camping trip...
Still thinking about this art someone made depicting the Mutts as they're described in the books and dear gods. It was disturbing but also beautiful art style.
Dude...I just had the idea for a My Hero Academia and The Hunger Games crossover.
I don't have full details lined up as I'm very unfamiliar with The Hunger Games lore, but something something U.A. being the arena. Pro heros being mentors.
Maybe a fucked up element where Mutts are able to copy their loved-one's voices...I don't know, like I said, I don't know Hunger Games lore enough.
Please, please, please, if you're someone who understands the lore add to this idea. Give me your two cents, or if you know a fic that uses this idea let me know!
See, even though I love shipping characters, I don't feel that I'm a particular ride or die for any ship. Like, Alucard and Seras is nice but Seras and Pip are cool, an Alexander and Alucard? Yummy. Integra and Seras? Mmm Yuri time my loves.
watching twilight and I keep making myself laugh imagining if it was just alucard or any other vampire instead of Edward. POV nausferatu goes to ur school
and those were the last words john uttered before slamming the palm of his hand down against his desk and leaving. spoken the way most things he says are - gruff and final, with no room for argument - stunning the room into silence until the door shut hard behind him.
everyone just looked at each other, dumbstruck.
âshould we wait for him to come back?â
âwhat the hell does that meanââ
âis that code for something?â
âwait, heâs married?â
price didnât hear a word of it - by that point he was already halfway down the hall, boots pounding concrete with purpose, fluorescent lights buzzing overhead, everything else dissolving into white-hot static behind his eyes.
he can take a lot of bullshit. does it daily. but fuckinâ hell - they wouldnât stop. wouldnât stop talking, hovering, circling him like crows. clipping questions at him in endless fucking rotations.
what now, captain? whatâs next? what do we do about makarov? do we move now or wait for shepherdâs greenlight? have you seen the updated file? should we pull soap and gaz back? do we burn the safe house? double-tap the asset? whatâs the protocolâ
jesus fuckinâ christ.
itâd been too long. johnâs mentally checked out and he knows it. doesnât care. he didnât want to be in that room. didnât want to sit at that table. didnât want to give another goddamn order with five pairs of bloodshot eyes looking at him like heâs meant to have all the answers and none of the doubt.
he needs a break. not a debrief. not another satellite feed. not another fucking decision.
he needs to go home and fuck his wife.
needs to put his hands on something solid, something that he doesnât have to second guess. something thatâd let him burn off all the static and pressure and noise building between his temples without asking anything much in return. his sanctuary where he can fall apart and come back clearer. reset his head before it spun off his shoulders.
so he peeled out of the parking lot before heâd even properly put the car in drive, and sent you one text:
âtake off anything you value and put away everything breakable. iâll be home in 15.â
Youâre in ghosts phone as âDO NOT FUCKING ANSWERâ and heâs in yours as âDO NOT CALL EVERâ and everyone assumes itâs because youâre messy exes that keep falling back into each otherâs toxic orbits but the truth is that like every time you call ghost while heâs deployed you end up crying about how you miss him and it totally breaks his heart and makes him sulk for the rest of the mission because he wants to go home so bad. So every time heâs home youâre like âokay I promise I wonât call anymoreâ and heâs like âI promise I wonât pick up if you doâ but guess who keeps calling and guess who keeps fucking picking up anyways
