[  anna paquin  &  she/her &  cis female  ]  :  my  oh  my,  is  that  ANNE-MARIE "GINGER" SKINNER in  bon  temps  ?  what  the  hell  are  they  up  to  hanging  around  FANGTASIA  listening  to  EMO  BOY  by  AYESHA  EROTICA  when  they  should  be  doing  whatever  a  WAITRESS  does  ?  between  you  and  i,  the  26  year  old  HUMAN is  avoided  for  acting  SLEAZY,  but  whenever  they  let  their  KIND  side  shine  through  people  flock  to  them.  i  guess  they're  in  town  because  they  work  at  FANGTASIA.  explains  some  of  it,  though  i  can't  help  but  wonder  if  there's  more  to  a "TRAILER PARK TRASH" meets LOYAL VAMPIRE ALLY story. 

“ 𝙾𝙷,  𝚆𝙸𝙻𝙻  𝚈𝙾𝚄  𝚂𝙷𝚄𝚃  𝚄𝙿? ”  𝙶𝙸𝙽𝙶𝙴𝚁  grumbles  to  herself,  head  lowered  as  she  presses  a  cold  compress  to  it.  she’s  had  a  banging  headache  for  two  days  now  and  two  days  is  all  she  can  handle,  so  her  patience  is  wearing  thin.  she  doesn’t  even  realise  that  the  words  have  slipped  so  audibly  from  her  mouth  until  she  looks  up  and  meets  the  other’s  gaze,  her  head  thudding  in  protest  at  the  movement.  sighing,  she  lowers  her  gaze  to  the  table  and  shakes  her  head.  maybe  she  needs  to  start  taking  vitamin  b...  is  that  the  one  she  needs?  she  has  no  clue.  vitamin  somethin’,  for  sure.  “ sorry, ”  she  grumbles,  hardly  taking  in  the  appearance  of  the  other  besides  what  jacket  they’re  wearing.  “ bad  day,  y’know? ”

CONFUSION  RINGS  TRUE  ON  HIS  FACE.    “  oh  honey  i  think  we’ve  got  our  wires  crossed.  when  i  said  i’ve  been  dead  for  the  last  fifty  year  i  ain’t  mean  just  being  a  vamp.  my  nest  killed  me  and  i  took  a  stroll  through  purgatory  before  i  bartered  my  release.  “     his  hands  run  up  and  down  the  bottle  as  he  gets  that  out  of  the  way.    “  jus’  sayin’  if  ya’  ever  do  wanna  get  out  of  the  business,  i’m  sure  there’s  plenty  of  places  ya’  can  go.  ”    benny  doesn’t  think  this  is  any  place  for  a  human.    especially  not  one  as  sweet  and  welcoming  as  ginger,  but  he’s  not  one  to  judge.    “  which  do  y’  prefer?    video  store  or  bar  where  the  vampires  seem  to  hang  out  at  all  the  time?  ”

The whites of his eyes show briefly as he rolls them half-heartedly. They were all complicated men. They had to be in order to survive this shit town, right? Survival of the fittest didn’t offer up lucky strikes. Still, the bitterness grows into a huffed out reply. ‘I ain’t bitter[…]his opinion doesn’t do shit for me.’ The sting of the slight defensiveness in his words is enough to have an urge to want to stifle himself. Palm rubbing his nape and pressing some sore spots along his neck while he waits for her to finish up. A mild expression of surprised amusement as he tries to decipher if she’s being serious or not. Fingers loosely pushing into his pockets as he tilts his head to study her, mouth curving into a lazy smile. ‘Nah, I think I’d be a little out of my element there. Probably would just wanna’ talk shit about his bar and then wind up face down on the asphalt, y’know?’

“ 𝙸  𝙳𝚄𝙽𝙽𝙾  𝚆𝙷𝙰𝚃  𝙰𝚂𝙿𝙷𝙰𝙻𝚃  𝙼𝙴𝙰𝙽𝚂  𝙱𝚄𝚃  𝙸  ain’t  expectin’  nothin’  good, ”   ginger  responds,  finishing  up  in  the  bathroom  with  a  swift  push  of  a  button.   “ he  ain’t  too  bad,   ya  know.   pam  ain’t  neither!   you  ever  met  pam  before? ”    she  asks,   drying  her  hands  on  the  towel  available  in  the  bathroom  before  she  leaves  the  room  and  greets  sam  with  a  smile.    fang  marks  at  her  neck,   as  usual,   and  she’s  garbed  in  short shorts,   platform  heels  and,   surprisingly,   a  hoodie.    she  realises  how  odd  it  might  look  considering  how  warm  it  remains  even  in  winter  at  night  time,   tugging  at  the  hoodie  sheepishly.

The patience grows like an old willow tree. It stretches its branches along his limbs and muscles, keeps him calm and expressionless - but aren’t all dead men like this? He supposes she was more used to the theatrical fashions of Eric and his need for attention at all hours of the day, but he was more subtle than that. Demanded power off of silence and introspection. A grunt of acknowledgement at her words, although he doesn’t answer them yet. Strikes a match from his matchbook and lights up a new cigarette, a slow puff before he settles back to lean against the bar counter, enjoying the quietness of Fangtasia at this hour of the day. ‘Sit here and look sad[…]s’that what you think I do all day?’ It’s asked only with a slight amusement, the corner of his mouth quirking with an involuntary tease. There’s a soft flustering inside of him due to that near perfect observance of him, although he finds it uncomfortable to be so carefully studied underneath a microscope. A shake of his head while eyes wander around the empty place, curiously wondering about the dedication and attachment Eric had to it. ‘No[…]no thanks, no Tru Blood. He treats you well, then? Did he give you those?’ A pointed look towards the marks on her neck, and while there’s no judgement within his question, there certainly is an air of a condescending tone that follows it.

IF  THIS  IS  GOING  TO  BE  AN  ACQUIRED  TASTE  then  he  needs  to  stop  by  more  often,  which  isn’t  a  bad  thing.    “  guess  you’ll  be  seeing  me  more  often  then  as  i  try  to  get  used  to  the  bottle.  ”    he  sounds  like  he’s  recovering,  which  in  a  way  he  is,  so  he  laughs  a  bit  as  he  sets  the  tru  blood  down  on  the  counter.    “  t’is  all  up  to  y’  little  lady,  i  ain’t  in  the  business  of  forcing  someone  or  changing  ideals.    nice  of  y’  ta’  take  in  interest  in  us  though.    hear  we’re  an  acquired  taste  around  these  parts.  ”    he  smiles  softly,    grateful  she’s  kind  to  his  kind.    “  can  i  be  a  little  honest  with  ya’  darlin’  ?    since  i’ve  been  dead  for  the  last  50  years  i  haven’t  really  caught  up  on  cinema  .    i  think  those  came  out  right  when  my  nest  got  ta’  me.  ”  

STUDYING  THE  BLONDE  IS  QUICKLY  becoming  the  highlight  of  his  night.    “  it’s  almost  like  you  want  to  call  attention  to  yourself.  ”    he  comments  on  the  way  she  eats  her  fry.    kai  dips  his  own  in  the  ketchup  dip  and  then  eats  it,  almost  moaning  at  the  taste  alone.    so  much  has  changed  since  1994.    “  y’know,  for  you  i’d  be  willing  to  change  my  name.    you  can  call  me  bunny  all  you  want  as  long  as  your  calling  me.  ”    there’s  a  wide  smile  on  his  face  as  he  moves  his  clean  hand  to  poke  her  nose.    “  although  i’m  known  to  be  much  more  of  a  predator.    so  if  i’m  bunny  then  you  have  to  be  clover  or  something.    a  plant  they  eat.  ”  

“  JUST  KNOW  THE  FEELING’S  MUTUAL,  SUGA’.    ”    after  coming  back  benny  realizes  that  his  sentiments  towards  humans  are  still  the  same.     they  deserve  to  live  just  as  much  as  vampires,  if  not  more.     hell,  it  was  that  ideal  that  got  him  killed  in  the  first  places.     he  bows  his  head  when  ginger  passed  him  the  drink  and  catches  it.     “  thank  y’  beautiful.  ”    he  lifts  it  up  to  cheers  the  air  and  grins  before  he  does  anything  else  with  it.    “  to  tell  y’  the  truth,  t’is  the  first  time  i’m  having  this.    so  guess  i’ll  let  you  know.  ”    benny  finally  brings  the  bottle  to  his  lips  to  take  a  long  swig  from  it.    the  liquid  makes  it’s  way  down  his  throat  and  he  takes  a  while  to  inspect  it.    the  taste  is  defeinitely  different  and  it  shows  on  his  face.    “  y’know  the  difference  between  freshly  squeezed  lemonade  and  the  powder?    the  difference  between  real  blood  and  this  is  kinda  like  that.  ”    still,  it  helps  with  the  craving.    “  y’taste  every  molecule,  so  there’s  definitely  a  difference.    have  you  ever  thought  about  turning  or  do  y’like  being  human?  ”

All that leaves his mouth is an involuntary sigh, exhaled out with a shakiness of someone resilient even in the presence of complicated women. Suppose they were drawn to him. Like insects to something half-dead, a rotted thing with no form and no name. With his back to the opened door, he leans against the wall, shoulder first. Head rolling to rest against the wall as he squeezes his shut for a bit of a replenishment for his energy. The chatter of the blonde lulls him almost to a sedated state, enjoys the brief reprieve of her voice and the background of the bar. ‘I’m sorry[…]just tryin’ t’keep a safe space for everyone, y’know. I didn’t mean nothin’ by it, Ginger. Your, uh, boss came in a few days earlier. Didn’t like the place much.’

THE  SOFTNESS  AROUND  HER  makes  him  feel  like  he’s  back  on  the  farm.   hugged  by  the  comfortable  clouds  in  the  sky,   washed  in  radiant  sunlight.   even  if  he  can’t  step  foot  outside  in  the  daytime,  she  makes  him  feel  like  he  can  for  a  couple  of  minutes.   “  well  is  that  not  what  this  establishment  is  for?   just  trying  to  follow  the  rules  before  i’m  kicked  out,  mon  cheri.  ”   his  southern  drawl  is  accompanied  by  his  deep  laugh.   benny  thinks  about  what  his  favorite  blood  type  is,   thinking  this  is  just  the  same  as  stealing  blood  bags.   “  i’ll  have  to  take  an  o  neg  if  that’s  the  case  then.   ab  neg  if  that  isn’t  in  stock.   thank  you  darlin’.  ”   he  shakes  his  head  and  smiles  earnestly  in  ginger’s  direction.   “  no  worries  ma’am,   i  have  a  personal  supply.  plus,   t’is  not  your  fault  so  you  have  nothing  to  be  sorry  about.  ”   

“  OH  AS  IF,  YOU  JUST  KNOW  I’M  RIGHT.  ”     he  rolls  his  eyes  when  ginger  seemed  to  get  so  defensive  over  a  name.     kai  even  fake  yawns  and  covers  his  mouth  when  she  details  the  history.     “  isn’t  seductive  just  another  term  for  sex  worker?     so  are  you  proving  me  right?  ”     he  takes  another  sip  of  his  beer  and  bites  into  his  burger.     the  food  is  too  distracting  to  go  on  a  full  rant  right  about  now.     “  malachai  parker,  so  yeah  my  parents  basically  knew  i  was  going  to  be  evil.     although  i  normally  go  by  just  kai.  ” 

The night was nearing its end and finally Arlene was able to take a break.  Taking off her apron she placed it behind the bar as she grabbed her some water and went to find a seat. Once she did she sat down and took a sip of her water. When she heard someone coming towards her she shook her head. “I’m on break. Go bug someone else.” 

THERE  WAS  SOMETHING  ABOUT  ginger  that  he  couldn’t  quite  place.     sure  she  was  easy  on  the  eyes,  protective  of  her  boss,  and  nice,  but  there  was  something  else.     shortly  after  benny  realized  what.     she  reminded  him  of  his  wife  when  he  was  human  all  of  those  years  ago.     they  both  had  a  softness  to  them,  but  also  a  spark  that  showed  they  couldn’t  be  messed  with.    at  least  shouldn’t.     “  well  honey  if  y’  wanna  sit  around  all  day  i  can  go  on  and  on  about  your  pretty  eyes.  ”     when  he  didn’t  think  he  was  going  to  be  kicked  out,  benny  pulled  out  a  stool  and  sat  at  the  bar.     he  shook  his  head  slowly  and  placed  his  head  on  the  counter.     “  i’m  good  gorgeous,  but  get  something  for  yourself  and  i’ll  pay.     you  deserve  a  break.  ”     he  laughed  softly  and  bowed  his  head.     “  promise  eric  isn’t  the  one  i’m  after  so  i  ain’t  here  looking  for  trouble.     the  old  man  turned  me  and  then  my  nest  killed  me,  just  looking  for  revenge  on  them  t’is  all.  ” 

“  AND  TO  THAT  I  SAY  FUCK  THE  PATRIARCHY!  “     he  tucks  his  knife  away,  but  only  because  ginger  is  far  too  entertaining.     “  did  your  parents  actually  name  you  that?  cause  mine  definitely  made  me  out  to  be  a  villain,  but  that  name  has  sex  worker  written  all  over  it.  ”     still,  kai  slides  over  one  of  the  plates  with  an  untouched  burger  and  fries  along  with  a  beer.     “  join  me  sugar,  i’m  dying  to  know  more  about  you.  ”
