So telling that when Skye is shot and dying, it’s May who goes rogue to beat the crap out of Quinn. Not Ward, her SO who blames himself. Not Coulson who sees so much potential in her. Not Fitz who gave her the last Night Night gun to try and protect her. Not Simmons who broke down trying to keep Skye alive during transfer. May. Who at this point has a tense relationship with Skye. And it’s not because May blames herself, she was getting tortured then rescuing Coulson and Ward while Skye was in danger. It’s because May doesn’t know what she will become if something breaks her a second time. Fitz, Simmons, and Skye are often referred to as kids by the rest of the team. They’re young. They’re not used to almost dying yet. May almost lost another child she was trying to protect.

so i know that i’m a million years late to the party, but something i find hilarious in agents of shield is that in season one, these guys are basically your regular government employees who just deal with weird stuff, and by the time season four rolls around, these same people are so codependent that when their new boss comes in and is like “:) yay! i can put the genius STEM people in my genius STEM section and the hyper-competent soldier people in my hyper-competent soldier section!” they all immediately assume that he’s out to get them and is splitting them up on purpose. like you people are AT A JOB this is YOUR BOSS what are you DOING. and it’s not just daisy or fitzsimmons thinking about this. fucking coulson and may are also suspicious. like guys. you are government workers. why are you conducting secret missions. people are going to die for your found family.

my headcanon is that they secretly look out for each other in the shadows and follow the news and just never forget their time in st agnes 💔

one thing you gotta remember about season one Skye is that she’s so good with people it’s nearly preternatural. She’s teetering on Will Graham levels of relating to people. She manages to convince Mike to be a hero with a single conversation. She notices Coulsons use of Tahiti as a thought terminating cliche in the first five minutes of episode two. She hears the word immature and figures out the entire motivation of someone she’s never talked to. For what little she knows about Ward she gets a really close reading and is able to suss out his major flaws and insecurities. Her social IQ basically outpaces everyone else on the team and Coulson seems to be the only person capable of keeping up.
