here’s your daily reminder that:

what a character says ic is not always what the writer thinks ooc. characters can be wrong, misguided, horrible people and writers do not always agree with what their characters do and say

writing ic does not automatically mean projecting one’s own thoughts and ideas about a topic, the character and the writer are two different people entirely

playing a villain who has done/does abusive things as a part of their characterization doesn’t mean the writer is excusing abusive behavior irl

just because someone writes a villain/evil character does not make the writer a horrible, irredeemable person ooc who genuinely believes every single thing their characters say/do is 100% right. yes, we know when a character is saying/doing something “bad” or “wrong” and we are not saying that it’s okay by any means

a mean character can have happy moments in their life unrelated to the nasty things they do. a villain character having other traits/quirks beyond “villainy” makes them no less a threat/no less evil than they are

stop getting angry at people for making well-rounded characters with fleshed out details that make them, oh golly gee, human

yes, it is completely possible to recognize a character as despicable and evil and still enjoy them for being an interesting, well written character!

not taking villains seriously is a major pain in the ass
