it’s a cold and it’s a broken hollaback girl 

also can you imagine how different things would have been if they’d just left him in the circle of holy oil. if dean hadn’t pulled the fire alarm. can you imagine gabriel pacing the circle for days. weeks. months. yelling at the door like they’re just standing on the other side. can you imagine him sitting cross-legged in the center of the circle, elbows on his knees and head in his hands, feeling the course of events around him. feeling his siblings dying. feeling michael and lucifer gravitating closer and closer to each other, to the inevitable end. can you imagine castiel showing up in the warehouse again. standing there silently across from this still, crumpled being who hasn’t moved in months. who has flecks of dust clinging to his eyelashes when he looks up again, dust that sloughs off in small clouds when he blinks for the first time in weeks. their wordless conversation of ‘promise me’ and ‘i can’t’ that ends with a flutter of wings as castiel leaves him to his loneliness. can you imagine gabriel feeling the reverberations of the events in elysian fields hotel as they happen. burning himself as he slams his fists against the invisible barrier presented by the holy fire and yells for someone, anyone, to let him out, only to be ignored. falling to his knees as he feels the tremors through all of creation when sam says yes to lucifer, because once lucifer showed up at the hotel, without gabriel’s interference, he would have forced sam’s hand somehow. can you imagine gabriel, this fallen idol in a ring of fire, being the first person that lucifer visits after he wins.
