“I am honored to hear such gracious words from you, Your Grace.”

BROWS RAISED, he eyes the presented candy with apprehension. Having never seen its like, the child feared what would happen if he were to ingest it. Quickly, he tossed it upon a nearby table, averting his eyes from its alluring, glimmering wrapper. For some reason, he wanted it; but he remembered how Mother told him he shouldn’t, and desisted. 

“I think...I think you should just take it back.”

[Sooooo anyone remember my post about my Libra fan kid, Rosalee? I’m probably gonna make her a Dark Mage, and that’s gonna be significant.]

[But good god, I RAMBLED a lot about her under the cut. And, uh, feels warning: I go into detail about how the bad future affected her.]

She realized that she was repeating herself as Libra elbowed his way into her room. It was the second time she’d asked him if she was too heavy. A sigh escaped her lips, agitated with herself for being overly apologetic.

He set her down on the bed with the utmost of care, and there was not a twinge or an ache to be found. Her head was the only thing that hurt, the throbbing pain brought on by the nightmare growing worse. That, of course, was not Libra’s fault. Her migraines were hard to deter, they seemed to be a necessary evil when reclaiming her own mind.

“I… never mind your company,” she admitted. He was a friend, at the very least. One she was growing quite close to. Of course, Libra was often meeting with her brother and sister and the Shepherds for different tasks planning his orphanage, but in all of that and all of his help with her recovery, they grown fond of one another. Emmeryn found herself excited whenever she was told that he was visiting, always looking forward to time with the monk.

“It… will sound silly, but… can you sit with me? Perhaps tell me a story… about how the orphanage is coming along. I think… a distraction might be healthy at the moment.”

Her inquiry towards his orphanage hadn’t come as a surprise. His venture in trying to make it functional---a true safe and healthy haven for the children---had been a topic of much discussion with the royalty. Exalt Chrom had given his explicit blessing in the project, without any obligation to credit him for his generous funds. More often than not, Libra found himself discussing the details with the exalt’s sisters. They were all excited for the endeavor. 

She was right; it was best to change the topic, and earn some peace from discussing that which their hearts held dear. While the orphanage hadn’t officially been opened, Libra had amassed a fair number of children already. What remained was to complete the building that would shelter them until a loving family arrived.

Ironically, whenever he ran out of stories to tell these little tykes, he would expand upon the heroism of the exalt and the Shepherds, often losing track of time as he did so. He had that unfortunate tendency to become intertwined in the details. Still, no one had complained about that, and the priest considered it a boon if anything. 

“It’s quite fine. I’ve been meaning to tell you of the children, Your Grace.”

MANY A WORSHIPER had approached him with the same question. Undaunted, Libra’s answer remained the same: to make the most of the gods’ gift of life. Anyone could interpret that advice as they wished. It was not his desire to impose his personal philosophies upon others.

And yet, her question catches him off guard. He hadn’t taken her for the pondering type. Not to say she wasn’t entitled to it. Did she, perhaps, wish to hear his opinions on the matter?

“I suppose most everyone would have different answers for that.”

“True. Only the gods themselves can know what is yet to be.”

Still, it is a perturbing thought, when one made an honest reckoning and realized their few years on Earth amounted to little time. Libra, however, is not one to dwell on the futility of the brief life span of man. He was here to offer encouragement and prayer, as was the priest’s dictum. He cups his hands, as though poised for prayer, but smiles gently.

HE PONDERS THE THOUGHT in a respectful silence, having many a time wondered the activities of the souls of the departed. It gives him hope to consider that, in the embrace of the gods, they’ve found pure peace. 

His lip trembles. He knows he’s sent a horde of people to the upper realms; that he’s killed in the names of the Shepherds. But it had been for a righteous cause,and the clash for survival was inevitable on any battlefield. He prayed for the fallen, as he always did. That was the best he could offer them.

“In fact, it’s a thought that oft occurs to me.”

What I’m actually doing right now: thinking up a smol fan child for Libra and thinking of her interactions with the orphans at Libra’s orphanage??? (Her name is Rosalee by the by.) Giving her Libra’s silky blonde hair so that the orphans can have fun styling it?? Making her an extremely talented artist (like Libra himself) who encourages her friends to doodle when they’re bored??? Making her a Mage because spells have an artful aesthetic to them??
