Welcome!

Hi! We are Mod Judith and Mod Zefirka (mod team pending expansion; new blog members always welcome). We started this blog after seeing some art that had a cool concept, but unfortunately was made by AI, circulating in our fandom. The purpose of this blog is to help people find AI art that might contain an interesting idea, and commission a real human artist to create artwork on the same subject.

To make this possible, we have created a KoFi page to collect donations for our Art Rescue Missions! Whenever we and/or our followers come across an AI piece that might have had potential, we will pool together some money to commission an artist and make that idea happen with human hands.

If you have already created genuine human artwork after seeing AI art with a prompt that intrigued you, or commissioned someone to do it for you, we would love to promote this work as well! Use the hashtag #fair art or tag @fair-art so we can reblog your post.

We started this blog to find and support a human artist in the face of AI taking over the Dragon Age art tag some months ago. Through community effort, we managed to fund a commission of a stained-glass Blackwall portrait from a human artist, and also hopefully inspired others to create authentic human art in this style!

In a fandom brimming over with talented human beings, it was a tough choice settling on just one person that would reclaim the artwork concept from AI, but at last, our artist reported back to us with finished work! We are very excited to see it come to fruition! Be sure to support this gorgeous piece, and others like it, as an affirmation that passion and enthusiasm for genuine human creativity will always prevail.

The artist has also provided a high-res image, so if you are one of the lovely people who backed the Ko-Fi goal, expect Mod Judith to reach out to you, once her irl obligations allow, and arrange for a postcard with the artwork to be sent to you, as a permanent reminder that you contributed to supporting human-made art.

We are excited to announce that the artist has presented the sketch, which got approved by Mod Zefirka and Mod Judith, and the money collected through everyone's efforts has been transferred to them. Our project is all the much closer to fruition, and we are immensely grateful to everyone who shared our enthusiasm for turning an AI prompt into human-made art!

Hi, Mod Zefirka here! The artist we settled on is back from hiatus and ready to start their sketch. First things first, however, they asked me if we want our stained glass portrait of Blackwall to feature any specific symbolism associated with the character. I thought it would be fair to ask for input from people who helped support the commission fund!

Rescue Mission: Stained Glass Blackwall

We at Fair Art are committed to finding AI "art" with an interesting premise and crowdfunding a commission based around the same idea, but done by a real, human artist. Please consult our pinned intro and FAQ for more information.

Today, we are happy to launch our first Art Rescue Mission! We would love to see a human artist redraw this stained glass portrait of Blackwall from Dragon Age:

Our primary goal is 100 Euro. We, of course, plan to report our donation progress, and will use the money to tip/support artists even if we don't make enough to order a commission.

Excellent news! Mod Zefirka found an artist on Twitter whose minimum price range for stained glass headshots coincides with our donation goal (EUR 100). They are currently on hiatus from taking commissions but will be back in September, and expressed an interest in the project, as a Blackwall fan *and* a human artist with an anti-AI stance. Perhaps we can meet the goal by then :D

Once again clarifying that this is not our final, definite choice of artist, just one of the people who are on very much on board with the Rescue Mission, on the condition that we raise enough money to cover their fees. The Ko-Fi donations are still ongoing!

So, out of all the lovely artists we talked to, we are finally entering negotiations with this awesome candidate! They had to take a break from making art for personal reasons, but will be back with a sketch in late August/early September, at which point we will send them all the funds our amazing community pitched together, so they can create a stained glass portrait of Blackwall in their unique style.

Another great news is that the artist makes postcards of their art, and Mod Zefirka is discussing the possibility of making a small batch so that folks who pitched in can have a physical souvenir as a reminder of their efforts.

We will return at the end of August with a new update! Thank you again for all your kindness and enthusiasm! Through your collective efforts, we have met our goal of 100 Euro and will thus provide the artist with fair compensation!

Out of curiosity, would it be alright with the mod team for someone to take a shot on recreating the campaigning artwork outside of specifically taking commission?

We have no claim on the idea itself and our sole purpose is to collect funds to bring an interesting concept to life with a real artwork. If anyone feels like creating their own version that's great! The more art the better, and we'd be delighted to see the result!

Just a little PSA: We have been very excited about talking to an artist who appreciates the idea behind the blog, but our agreement with them is not yet final. It all depends on how many Ko-Fis we manage to collect with your help, as different artists may have different commission price ranges. We have given ourselves until September, so there is still plenty of time to contribute!

Good news though! The mods of this blog have found a human artist that will be able to draw an actual stained glass portrait of Blackwall, once they open commissions in September. Their prices start at 100 USD, and our awesome community has already raised about 70℅ of this amount (give or take the difference between dollar and Euro exchange rates) via Ko-Fi! Just a little more left to go!
