think less, dance more, fail confidently, and you will be better tomorrow than you were yesterday. progress comes through sweat

if something is fun even when you’re bad at it, you won’t believe how much of a blast it is when you start to get better

injuries can feel very stupid. don’t let that keep you from recovering. sometimes, you have to give up short-term gains for long-term ones

there is no such thing as starting too late. sure, you may wish you’d started earlier, but there’s still time

you will hear songs you’ve never heard in your life that everyone else in the crowd seems to know. and if you spend enough time in the dance scene of your particular time and place, soon enough you too will know the soundtrack of the moment

one of these days I have to battle. it scares the shit out of me but like, fail confidently is the motto here, so

dance is weird because it comes with such a culture. don’t try to pretend you know more than you do—don’t fake the funk. there’s no shame in not knowing if you’re willing to learn.

learning choreo is so fricking hard and frustrating sometimes. it’s cool and all but man, it is so much more fun once you know the dance

when you step into the cypher, everyone is watching you and only you. it is scary and you have to do it anyway. the weird part? it’s easier to be interesting if you don’t dance for the people watching

one of the nice things about dancing is that you can do it anywhere

some days you’re gonna be in a class and the guy teaching it will go off on a tangent about linear vs circular movement and then say “I’m in calculus this semester does it show”

basics, basics, basics

some days you look around and realize how far you’ve come and the energy just falls into place

it’s been said a million times, but attitude really is everything. on a dance team, it’s contagious. one person with a bad attitude drags everyone down, but one person with a good attitude lifts everyone up

to quote the guy who pulled me into the community, don’t be a culture vulture

no one who dances knows how to go to sleep at a reasonable hour

this place is called failconfidently because fear of failure is always, always the biggest thing holding me back. it’s a reminder: fear gets you nowhere, and failure moves you forward
