I have to remember to be kind to myself. I also have to remember that kindness does not mean complacence with the bare minimum
I think about this cake every day
sorry for exposing your tags but this is hilarious
OP, I hope you donât mind me making an addition:
When I turned 17, we ordered a cake at the grocery store for my party, as weâd done many times before. If you wanted something written on the cake youâd write it into a section of the order form. We requested, very simply, âHappy Birthday Courtneyâ. When we went to pick it up the day of the party, this is what we got.
The bakery employees had absolutely no explanation for this. The order form, attached to the box, very clearly did not contain any of those extra names. Whomever had done the writing was no longer in, so there was no one to ask how this had happened. The fact that the name âJuanâ is misspelled bewilders me to this day. (Iâve never seen âMileyâ without the E, either, but itâs believable that someone might spell it that way.) Did this cake slip in from an alternate universe where Iâm one quarter of a set of Hispanic quadruplets? Dyslexic Hispanic quadruplets, maybe?
This cake became the focal point of my party. At least two of my friends regularly called me âCourtney Mily Jaun Pabloâ for years to come. My siblings and I still reference it sometimes, eleven years later. It is probably the funniest thing ever to occur at any birthday celebration of my life, and may well remain so for the rest of my days.
I love a botched cake.
one time me and some pals spotted one of those big cookie cakes in a store. it was done up with red icing and little X's for kisses and in the middle it said
No One Like You
now, it took us a while to realise it meant "(there is) no one like you". at first, we all parsed it as a botched "no one like(s) you"
for ages after when we'd wind each other up we'd declare "NO ONE LIKE YOU âšď¸đ"
I just feel like it's important to post the Sacred Texts

every time i get close to someone i feel like a stray dog trying to live in a house. like i donât know where to put my body or how loud iâm allowed to be.
Collecting these rn
We've been mistaking unhealthy coping strategies for positive traits our whole life, so for example:
We think people pleasing is being kind, but kindness comes from genuine care, not fear of rejection: people pleasing is anxiety disgused as niceness
We mistake perfectionism for excellence, but excellence is about growth and progress, while perfectionism is fear of failure dressed up as high standards
We confuse avoiding conflict with being peaceful, but peaceful isn't pretending everything is fine: that's fear of confrontation masquerading as harmony
We think suppressing feelings makes us strong, but strength isn't emotional numbness: that's trauma disguised as resilience
We mistake not asking for help as independence, but independence isn't doing everything alone: that's fear of being a burden or pretending to be self-reliant
We confuse approval seeking with getting good advice, but seeking wisdom is different from needing validation: approval seeking is insecurity disguised as being open to input
We think being controlling gives us safety but safety isn't micromanaging everything: that's anxiety masquerading as being responsible
We mistake our productivity for our worth, but our value isn't our output: that's childhood conditioning disguised as work ethics
These patterns serve you once, but now they're just keeping you stuck

itâs fucking wild because one day youâre like i guess iâm not dying tragically young and you go to the store and you buy dental floss, ingredients for soup, and a bath mat
itâs this sentiment in practice, in day to day.
agonizing over all the time you wasted or lost is useless. itâs gone now. you survived in the only way you knew how. doesnât your survival deserve some recognition too?
like toni morrison said, âsometimes you don't survive whole, you just survive in part. but the grandeur of life is that attempt. itâs not about that solution. it is about being as fearless as one can, and behaving as beautifully as one can, under completely impossible circumstances.â
this one. fuck this poem.
Actually, people are good by nature and youâre a fool if you think otherwise.
When you sneeze in public, strangers will say âbless youâ, even though they donât know you.
When you ask for directions on the street someone will show you the way, even though they have nothing to gain from it.
People squeeze their legs against the chair so you donât have to hop over them on your way to your seat in the theatre, and make funny faces to make babies laugh, and purposefully step on leaves to hear them scrunch, and hold the door open for someone leaving behind them, and ask what floor youâre heading to when you enter the elevator, and send others photos of things that reminded them of them, and recommend each other songs, and ask if anyone else wants a coffee because theyâre getting one, and make videos teaching how to sew a button, and wish on shooting stars, and share fun facts, and listen to others rant about things they donât even understand, and let you cross the street first, and give a bit of their food to others, and laugh at jokes they donât find funny to make you feel good, and listen to kids talk for hours about nonsense, and let you know your keys fell from your pocket, and they may be strangers, but with every little gesture theyâre saying âI love you, I love you, I love youâ.
God, I needed to read this today. Humanity is overwhelmingly full of hope and kindness and itâs very easy to forget that these days.
I will always choose to believe that there is more good in this world than I can ever know.
