Uncontrollable
The smile Ezra sent his way did an even better job of soothing Sasha than the darkness had, and as Ezra took a few strolling steps towards him, Sasha found himself subconsciously moving closer himself. The tug he felt to the ancient was, as always, impossible to ignore â it was like an invisible rope was tied around him and Ezra pulled him in without even realizing he was doing it. And as Ezra spoke, his rich voice seemed to ride down Sashaâs spine and settle at the base, filling him with only the kind of warmth that Ezra Harlow could provide.
Sasha blinked. There was a moment of hesitation where he had to bite back an instinctive âHel-lo, handsome.â âEzra,â he said by way of greeting instead. And a smirk touched his lips at the next words that left the other. âPlease donât tell me youâre actually out here playing that game. I get enough of it at the museum â curse whoeverâs decision it was to make it a, what do you call it? A Pokestop.â Sasha wasnât out of touch with technology, but this was certainly something that he had yet to find the appeal in. Create an app where you seek out different types of plants or something and heâd be totally all in â perhaps he should try and find someone who could make that.
âI got your text,â he said after a beat. And, despite the fact that it was merely habit, he added, âIâm sorry for not getting in touch sooner.â It sounded so formal. It made him feel guilty. Lamely, he added, âWorkâs been keeping me busy. Reckon I should just start sleeping in my office.â
âWhat? Had to do something to justify my standing around in this hood on my lonesome for so long.â The bumbling ancient smirked, the white of his teeth breaking through the monotony, with a small hope that using such slang would tease another wonderfully sardonic reaction from the youngster. His voice rose an octave. Ezra wasnât much of a wall flower. He did his best to keep manners in mind now, with Sasha, but it was the very mans presence that left the ancient giddy again. Even after what had gone wrong.
He was nervous, admittedly, hadnât realized Sasha approached him earnestly in return. If only he were aware. â.. As if I needed another reason to come bug visit you at work. âguess Iâve got one now.â With a hand Ezra waved his phone in a harmless threat before stuffing the thing in his back pocket. No time for that now, no need, and he may have been exaggerating to break the tension. Just a fad like any other.
His hazel gaze flickered gently. Perhaps Sasha was lying to him about being busy, but Harlow knew well enough the vampire found joy in the work, it may have been an ideal escape from... them--though it did hurt to consider that. âNo need for that.â Ezra breathed out, like Sasha was silly to even toy with the idea. Didnât he still know that he was wanted? Had a home even without the lust and romance mixed in. âHave you been well..?â
