Uncontrollable
It was embarrassing to stand out here alone. Without a mate present or human to feed off of. If Ezra lingered outside for another hour, all night, surely his loitering wouldnât go unnoticed. Though he kept his secret safe beneath a rug not all vampire were as young as Sasha. Most were old and at the very least would know of his brothers and sisters. Would see a likeness in him. Ezra was willing to wait till dawn despite this concern.
He had high hopes for Sasha and in the end a bit of that new hope became instilled in himself. A gift Ezra supposed theyâd given to one another.
The ancient wasnât swayed by a mocking or curious gaze, not from anyone, but like a magnet he was drawn to one on his back. It may have been a coincidence, but Ezra turned on his heel and saw the dark, gorgeous, creature lingering toward the alleys opening. Hidden till he was found by Harlow. Ezra almost considered this vision a trick of the light, but there was no mistaking Sasha for a blinking street lampâhe only wished that he could stop staring back. In silence. Stupidly. The fear of intimidating Devitt to make a run for it was very real. As if the young vampire was more of a stray kitten than a powerful mighty terrifying beast.
Ezra had no clue if Sasha received his text, had and come for him, or if this was all just about hunger. A dirty sort of desire to dine with the ancient. Ezra settled on the fact that he truly didnât care for the truth. All that mattered was seeing Sasha now. In the flesh.
Biting his lower lip, Harlow flashed a pleasant grin toward Sasha; far more characteristic than his stoic gaze filled with self-pity and longing. He took a step toward Sasha, then another, casually. As if theyâd only been apart for the last twenty minutes. Been lost and found again. And, really, for an ancient⌠it almost felt just like that.
âEvening.â Ezra said, and smiled a bit more after, because he wasnât sure if a love would sneak in there somewhere by accident. Apparently not. âThis is probably the worst square in the city to play PokemonGoâŚâ
âWhoâd âa thought?â
The smile Ezra sent his way did an even better job of soothing Sasha than the darkness had, and as Ezra took a few strolling steps towards him, Sasha found himself subconsciously moving closer himself. The tug he felt to the ancient was, as always, impossible to ignore -- it was like an invisible rope was tied around him and Ezra pulled him in without even realizing he was doing it. And as Ezra spoke, his rich voice seemed to ride down Sashaâs spine and settle at the base, filling him with only the kind of warmth that Ezra Harlow could provide.
Sasha blinked. There was a moment of hesitation where he had to bite back an instinctive âHel-lo, handsome.â âEzra,â he said by way of greeting instead. And a smirk touched his lips at the next words that left the other. âPlease donât tell me youâre actually out here playing that game. I get enough of it at the museum -- curse whoeverâs decision it was to make it a, what do you call it? A Pokestop.â Sasha wasnât out of touch with technology, but this was certainly something that he had yet to find the appeal in. Create an app where you seek out different types of plants or something and heâd be totally all in -- perhaps he should try and find someone who could make that.
âI got your text,â he said after a beat. And, despite the fact that it was merely habit, he added, âIâm sorry for not getting in touch sooner.â It sounded so formal. It made him feel guilty. Lamely, he added, âWorkâs been keeping me busy. Reckon I should just start sleeping in my office.â
