“Really?” Shigeo asked, noticeably brightening.  The idea of having another friend close by was tantalizing, given how slim his social circle was. Well, that was assuming that the two of them were friends.  Shigeo was pretty sure they were, but assumptions like that had rarely served him before now. Given his personal history, it was entirely possible that Shigeo had misplaced the point where acquaintances ended and friends began.  It seemed unwise to start jumping to conclusions now. Even so, Shigeo found it increasingly difficult to suppress his growing eagerness.

“I’ll tell Ritsu,” he promised. He’d tell him three or four times, most likely, pawing around at his phrasing until his opinion on the matter found its way into the message in a way that felt correct.

“What school will you be going to?”

“Yup!” Shou’s quick to respond, seeming bright eyed and very happy. He lets Shigeo process what he said and takes pleasure in seeing the subtle but notable expressions on his face and in his body language; he can tell Shigeo is happy.

“I’m not sure, I think it’s right on the cusp of Black Vinegar and Salt, but I didn’t ask my mom the details.” He shrugged his shoulders, “Either way I’m close enough to hang out with you Kageyama’s way more.” Briefly, he glanced over the other before opting to change the subject slightly-- just a little to the left.

“Never!?  You mean like…never never? Listen, Suzuki, I’m usually willing to make concessions over matters of inferior taste, but this is an emergency. We need to leave. You’re drinking a boba tea, today. ”

“My day would be shit without my morning boba. My day would be an absolute gen X-er selfie.”

“Never ever, I’ve seen pictures but I didn’t even understand what those little balls were until I asked about them!”

Shigeo’s eyes widened, enthralled by the idea of being allowed near the small fat furry lump that he’d heard so much about. He was so enamored with the prospect, in fact, that he nearly missed the moment when the subject began to change. 

“Other news…? Um, I don’t think I remember Ritsu telling me anything else. Sorry….”

“I’m actually almost positive I didn’t actually tell him this-- I had meant to, but it just slipped my mind. I’ve been crazy busy.” Shou explained, letting his exaggerated tone and expression fall back to something more normal for him.

He gives a little hum and smiles again, “Guess you can tell him for me. So- as you know I’ve been gone a while.” He began, clearly trying to make a story out of this. 

“Hey you.” Shou’s voice speaks up behind Shigeo, becoming visible and raising his hand.

“Long time no seeeee, big brother~!”
