Putting aside Naka’s actual word from interviews, it’s been said that the OVA (which did have Naka and Ohshima’s involvement) backed the Two-Worlds retcon since it had Planet Freedom (a post-apocalyptic Earth) have two cuts or regions of the planet called “dimensions.” Also from Ian Flynn.

Problem is that the actual word used in the Japanese is 次元, with “inner dimension” 内側の次元.“ Looking through acceptable sources for determining how JP words are actually used:

We can see that the word “dimension” doesn’t actually wholly mean “other plane of reality” or even just “pocket world.” Considering we’re shown Planet Freedom as as one single globe (with Eggman’s planning being to destroy the floating continents and leave the Land of Darkness) rather than two globes (with the entrance to the Land of Darkness being just flying on a biplane through clouds rather than using Chaos Control or “Secret Warp Rings”), it’s doubtful Sonic OVA was meant to so show there was a planet of just animals and a planet of just humies (since you know, Sonic and Da President live in the same cut of Planet Freedom0).

I KNOW that Ohshima made either a Tweet that expressed his love of American Sonic or tweeted a response to a fan his appreciation for US Sonic. I’ve been searching his Twitter for this particular comment but I’ve had no luck.

I love those settings *_* Sonic and Tails practically owning their own island and living in a 747 is something that really appeals to me and the land of the sky…being in the sky and connected by glacier’s and the land of darkness being more terrestrial is such a kick-ass idea for a Sonic setting.

Game!Sonic would be happy if weirded-out by the existence of the other Sonic’s but would rally them to take on the doctors. He is the most prominent Sonic, hence the others for the most part consider him the leader.

STC!Sonic wastes no time in denigrating the other Sonic’s without provocation, insulting them as being less cooler than he. Other Sonic’s wonder what crept up his ass.He is that one team player that nobody likes but whom has to be tolerated.

SatAM!Sonic randomnly spews dated 90′s radicalisms. The other Sonic’s look at him like he’s a weirdo. When he insists on distracting robots with his speed so they can enact the plan, the other Sonic’s leave him in the dust mid-sentence. He struggles to keep up with his incredibly tame speed by comparison, annoyed that no one listened to him. STC!Sonic latches onto this and insults him especially.

Archie!Sonic wonders if all these Sonic’s came from the Cosmic Interstate. Being forced to act independently for a change insted of being dictated-to by Sally, he wonders what idea Game!Sonic has in store.

It’s always question time ‘round here *Dances*

Ah, that hour-long bit of awesomeness has a place in my heart when it comes to Sonic things I’m particularly fond of.

It incorporated game elements in such an amazingly endearing way even considering the liberties it took with stuff like Planet Freedom and such, which weren’t even a detraction anyway.

I always smile at Sonic and Tails’ journey to the Land Of Darkness with the Tornado and the Badnik’s, springs, spikes and other recognizably Sonicky things. Sweet little nods to the game universe that inspired the animation.

All of the characters were well-portrayed, questionable VA’ing in the dub aside. Sonic’s portrayal as that of a slightly assholish guy offset me at first but I came to accept and embrace it. I like how this Sonic has the brand of ‘attitude’ SoJ obviously intended for him. It’s a contrast to the ‘attitude’ SoA manufactured when they stuck their oar in regarding his portrayals in other parts of the franchise.

Knuckles’ incorporation was excellent and the right way IMO of making him look like an awkward character unlike the games nowadays.

Tails is exactly, EXACTLY how I always thought he’d act in the Classic games.

Animation, use of expression and manner of portraying the characters moves was also fantastic. Sonic moves believably in accordance with the games alongside his enhanced agility, TAILS ACTUALLY FLIES AND USES HIS TAILS AS WELL AS HIS MECHANICAL APTITUDE *LE GASP* And Knuckles manner of hovering rather than gliding was a bit odd but singling out that for any kind of contempt is just gratuitous nitpicking.

All of the characters have exuberant personalities and ways of expressing emotion.

Metal Sonic was a badass plain and simple.

And that soundtrack is cool beans. Pity there was never an official release.

No, the descriptions next to “ADVENTURE FIELD” pertain to story event progression, small recaps on what has or is going to go down and elaboration on the next objective(s).

Interestingly though, I learned a few more things.

- Chaos 4 has the ability to manipulate the water quality. This would explain why the water in the boss arena can harm your character; Chaos is causing it to be dangerous.

- E-101 Beta MKII has the power of “Phantom Movement”. Explains why he leaves afterimages and seems to disappear and reappear.

- In the Chao description (Above Tikal’s and Chaos’), speculation is provided as to why the Egg Carrier has a Chao Garden. One point made is that Dr Eggman may have an unexpected fondness for cute things.

- On the same page, Chaos is confirmed as having followed Dr Eggman just to regain the power he lost upon his sealing.

Don’t you mean the Colours+ era?

The only reference to it is that he was away on a long journey.

Revisiting said translation of that part of the guide, the term used (修行) actually pertains to ascetic practices. I believe it is the JP term for Sādhanā.

Reply; I’ve read the text under this illustration before, included one thing revealed in it in my obscure facts masterpost (That Tails was originally designed without sclera). Yes, this art is by Yasushi Yamaguchi/Judy Totoya (The latter name is which he is credited under in Sonic 2′s credits), Tails’ creator.

To date, I haven’t found any scans of the SA2 guidebook online. I’ve only found scans of the SA1 book. If anyone knows when I can find SA2 Guidebook scans in good enough quality (And by addition any scans of the JP SatSR instruction manual), I can translate the interesting bits. I’ve only ever seen part of the SatSR instruction manual when @dizzydennis took a photo of the prologue part (Interestingly, Shahra narrates it and even mentions Scheherazade, who likely inspired her name)

Going from these online dictionaries, the term is in plenty cases both used in the meaning of  nameless plate tectonics and in the meaning of speaking about movement’s within Earth’s crust/ground/dirt. So hmmm. So far, I wouldn’t say “the earth’s crust” is a bad translation even if it is an ambiguous one.
