I’ve been researching US currency for the past couple of weeks and want to share some of the amazing things I’ve seen. First up is this 1891 $1000 silver certificate. It’s beautiful, through and through. The portraits of Liberty and William L Marcy (look him up) are amazing. The design of the text on the front of the bill is mind-boggling, and the back of the bill looks like the most amazing rug ever. The details are wonderful, like the little archer perched on the ornaments. The only thing that throws me is the U in United. What’s up with that U? That’s wacky. I’ve been “researching” and falling in love with currency design from 1850ish to 1928ish. It is beautiful and smart and lavish and fun. The number sever brought to you by the Bank of Cape Fear, NC circa 1858. At that time the bank put out bills for each dollar amount 1 through 10. The 7, 8, and 9 have these big beautiful figures on them. I am enjoying studying and researching old currency design.
