Ā Iāll note chickens for example, since I do have experience with them. You see hens have two ovaries, a large functional one and a small one. Ā The small one developed testosterone. Ā If their large ovary is damaged then the hen has to use her reserve ovary. Ā If she relies on it then she takes on the physical characteristics of a rooster. The hen looks like a rooster and can even take on sexual characteristics of a rooster but has no reproductive organs of a rooster.
I know this because I raised chickens for 10 years (and still do actually). Ā This is a trait in all birds.
