The name Dana still needed some getting used to; she was Scully to him, and he was Mulder to her. People called him Mulder, or Fox variably. He tended not to give his first name–it often elicited a reaction akin to disbelief, and shot his already low credibility even further. When opted, sometimes he gave the name Marty. M F Luder was another alias he used, which he stated stood for Martin Fredrick Luder.

In any case, when she put forth the question, he had to decide; if her friend was still alive and needed help, seeing Scully first could be a matter of life or death for her friend, when Scully’s condition didn’t seem as thought it would be changing anytime soon.

And yet, it still hurt, that he was going to have to put it off, yet again, because of more pressing issues… he knew that if Scully were able to say something, she would have urged him to see Melissa’s friend first, and to worry about her later.

“We should go check on your friend first. I don’t want to sound like an asshole,” He started, guaranteeing that whatever he would say was going to make him most definitely sound like an asshole, “but I doubt Dana’s going to be getting out of that bed any time soon–your friend could be hurt or in trouble… I’m sure she’ll understand. We can go after we’re done seeing your friend; my badge can get us in after hours, I’m sure.”

“No, you really don’t,” she shook her head, hoping she sounded reassuring enough. If he was an asshole, what did that make her? From an outsider’s perspective she was abandoning her sister to check on a friend she saw only a few times a year. Mulder and Melissa understood that Scullys condition wasn’t changing , but that her friend and possible more people than just thier victim were in danger. 

Missy could see the internal battle he felt, in the set of his eyebrows and that frown that tugged at his mouth. She wished she knew what to say to make it better her what her sister might say. Being a doctor, Dana would point out that the work was important, especially to those at risk. It still felt a little coldhearted.
