One thing I liked about this course was the groups we joined towards the beginning of the semester. I enjoyed doing multiple assignments on similar topics and working with others. Having to do multiple projects on a similar topic allowed me to get a better grasp on the topic which helped with the writing process. One thing I think could improve is spending more time on discussing specific assignments. At times, directions could be a bit vague. I think it would be beneficial to make assignments a little clearer.

By improving my writing process in English, I have been able to write papers for other classes more efficiently. In Uni, I have had to write multiple papers. When writing for this class, I have learned to give myself enough time to write a rough draft, revise and then have a final draft. This has helped me manage my time better as well. I used to wait until a day or two before something was due to start writing. I wouldn’t have multiple drafts and I would revise as I wrote. This resulted in very mediocre work.

My writing process has improved entirely. I used to not write several drafts before submitting a final one. Now, I have a prewriting process. I write a first draft and make revisions after, instead of writing one draft and revising as I write.

My primary claim is that the accessibility and ease of fast food is resulting in poor health. My supporting claims are a few other reasons why people look to fast food because it’s the easier choice, like income and age. The original argument of the rhetorical analysis article was that it is the fault of the fast-food companies for not properly marketing their products with their accompanied health risks. I don’t think it is only the fault of the fast-food companies. There are a lot of other factors that go into making the decision to go through a drive thru rather than going home and cooking. In my infographic I included some of those additional factors that could play into the decision to eat fast food. For example, it’s more likely that a higher-class family to eat fast food because the parent would work a long day and would rather take their kids to McDonald’s. They also have the money to pay for it without worrying about other bills and responsibilities.

Evaluating a source is important because you want to make sure that you’re getting your information from a credible and factual place. I think the most important thing I learned from HTWA is to check the publication date and who wrote it. Checking to make sure that the information isn’t outdated is important when it comes to accuracy of information. Looking at the author and their background is important because you want to check for bias and if the author is credible on the topic. I had an idea of the importance of the author’s credibility and when it was written, this chapter reminded me of that. I will make sure to look more into the background of the author and the publishing site to ensure I have information that is accurate, nonbiased, and up to date.

The main argument in “Don’t Blame the Eater” is that the health effects that fast food has on its consumers is the responsibility of the fast-food chains themselves. The key evidence was the use of statistics that backed the idea that the overall health of the public has worsened since the increase consumption of fast-food. There was also evidence used to show how restaurants don’t always show the accurate nutrition facts for their food/ products. I think there could be additional evidence about how health has been impacted. The evidence included in the text already was about the increase of Type 2 diabetes and cases that were obesity related. I thought it was interesting that the writer talked about how deceiving nutrition labels can be and how some places don’t always provide the whole truth. I think a counterargument for the increase in diabetes cases due to obesity or type 2 diabetes could be from additional or other factors, not just the over consumption of fast-food.

I found this image on The Health Foundation website. I think the audience is the people who have control over health resources. The image’s purpose is to show and inform the audience that access to healthcare is not equal among all. The images use logos by including the stat at the bottom of the image. It uses pathos by appealing to the those who are less fortunate with healthcare or those who sympathize. Ethos is used by being from a credible source. The important images contrast against the neutral background. The layout in simple and you can understand the purpose. The main argument is in the center of the image. This image reflects my subject by showing the things that can prevent equal access to healthcare.

“Don’t Blame the Eater” includes a quote from the National Institutes of Health about diabetes statistics. The author, David Zinczenko, doesn’t go in depth explaining what the quote means. He does continue with his argument using the quote as the topic for the following paragraph. The quote is pretty straight forward, providing facts that don’t necessarily require further analysis. He integrates this quote well into his article. I think this is an effective way to include a self-explanatory quote like this. Of course, if the quote was a little vaguer and only a segment of a full quote, it would require more analysis. This is a technique I would use in my own paper.
