“I’d like to know where my husband has gone? Because the Elijah I know would never threaten me, but what would you have done if you were in my shoes? You would always put me first-”

“I cannot be killed-” He interrupted.

I started to pace around the room, but neither one of us raised our voices. “Now who is sounding more like Klaus! Your mother is on the warpath, she wants to kill her family. Finn is already dead! Your remaining siblings have scattered to keep themselves safe. I had to get you out of Mystic Falls but I have a duty to protect Rebekah as well. You and I both know that Klaus and Kol can look after themselves. Always and forever means nothing if there is no family left.”

Seeing my reason, his features and tone softened. “Your methods of doing so were incorrect, had you asked we would have left.” Elijah says, trying to reason with me.

“Would we though? I know you Elijah, you never run from a battle, especially when your family is involved.

“You may think that it is just the husband’s job to protect their wife but it is also the duty of the wife to protect their husband and Elijah I’ll always protect you, even if it costs me my life in return.”

I could see the strain on his features and I knew that the venom was coursing through his veins. “Please Elijah sit down and let me help.”

I edged closer to him and guided him to sit on the very same lone chair that had survived in the bloodbath. I started by losing his tie, folding it neatly and setting it to one side and then making a start on his shirt buttons, undoing them one by one. “Someone who wants The French Quarter returned to normal and I know you have the power to make that happen.”

And with that the line cut out, leaving both me and Elijah wondering what was happening.

“First your mother coming back from the dead and now a voice wanting us to return to New Orleans. Seems that there is no rest for the wicked.” I say letting out a sigh.

“It is strange to say the least, however we still have unfinished business. What do you suggest we do? Divide and conquer?” Elijah replied, standing up and reaching up to put on his suit jacket.

“Nicole is now our first thought and neither Mystic Falls or New Orleans is safe for her, I believe it best if we hide her for now until it is safe for her to return home. To us.” I explained.

It was decided that Penelope would look after the little witch until we deemed it safe for her to come home. Whilst Elijah headed to New Orleans to deal with the ominous voice through the phone, I made the journey back to Mystic Falls to check up on Rebekah and also find out where Klaus and Kol were and to make sure they weren’t causing any trouble but first I wanted to check up a friend.

Arriving back at the Salvatore house I knocked on the door.

“Knew you couldn’t resist coming back to see me, Lizzie. To what do I owe the pleasure?” Damon says with a grin, leaning against the door frame of the front door.

“I came to check up on a friend, where’s Stefan?” I replied to him with a giggle.

“And I thought you and I were friends.” Damon replies with sarcasm.

I started to laugh. “Are you going to let me in or not?”

He rolled his eyes and then gestured to let me inside, I walked into the parlour and took a seat on the couch. He followed behind and proceeded to make himself a drink.

“Where is Stefan? I wanted to talk to the both of you.” I asked.

“Stefan? Well he is finally having his mid-life crisis. 164 years is a little too late in my opinion.”

I gave him a stern look.

“He’s outside fixing his bike.”

We made our way through the house to go out the back door and I saw Stefan sitting on his bike whilst he worked, along with parts scattered across the floor to where he was working.

“I can talk to Rebekah. But regarding Niklaus or Kol I have no idea where they would be. But if I get wind of where I can let you know. As horrible as it sounds, the further they both are from Mystic Falls the better. I can reason with Kol, Niklaus on the other hand brings out the worst in me and he is best left for Elijah to deal with.” I say to both brothers.

“Thanks Elizabeth.”

“So, good day for a midlife crisis then Stef?” Damon asked.

“Elena’s transition into a vampire has been a little depressing. I’m going to help her have a little fun.” Stefan said to his brother.

“Oh. Those who can’t do, teach.” Damon says in a sarcastic tone.

Stefan rolled his eyes. “Ah, I see we’re still fighting, got it.”

I let out a sigh, if it wasn’t the Mikealson brothers arguing it was Damon and Stefan. My actions caught the attention of them.

“Well I think distracting Elena is a good idea, gives her a slight breather into what's changing for her.” I said, sounding hopeful.

“There’s distracting then there’s dooming her. Animal blood isn’t the way to help Stefan.” Damon says angrily as he starts to storm off away from the both of us.

“Where are you going?” Stefan asks as he gets up wiping his oily hands on his trousers.

“That hunter jacked Tyler Lockwood of his werewolf venom last night, so basically, he's got vampire poison in a bottle. And I'm gonna find him, and I'm gonna eat him.” Damon replies in a short tone.

“I’ll go with you.” He says.

“I don’t want your help. I just want to kill this guy and get the hell out of town. Wasn’t that the deal? Whoever Elena doesn’t choose leaves?”

“Damon. Please.” I tried, walking closer to him but giving him the space he needed.

“That was before she turned.” Stefan says, crossing his arms.

“And I stayed to help. If I take you punching me as the first clue, I’m not wanted here anymore.” Damon continues.

Stefan sighed. “Listen, you blood-shared with my girlfriend, and I punched you in the face. You deserved it. Why don’t you stop being dramatic?”

“Will you both stop!” I shouted at them both.

“No, brother, dramatic would be leaving before I kill this hunter.” Damon spats and walks away from me and Stefan.

I turned to Stefan as he sighed in frustration to which I understood. “Look I’ll go with him, make sure he doesn’t get himself killed. Just let me work my magic on getting your brother to see reason. And then we will talk about Elena.”

Stefan nods and then I sped off to find Damon to whom was walking angrily into the woods.

“Damon, will you stop? Let us talk.” I started.

“Stop? Talk? Now you definity sound like Stefan. Leave me alone Lizzie.” He replied, still walking away from me.

I sighed and sped to get in front of him, blocking his path. “I get how you feel, trust me I do but lashing out at your family isn’t the way to go about this. Let me help you with your problem regarding the hunter. It's the least I can do. Just explain everything that's happened.”

Whilst we walked Damon explained about the vampire hunter called Connor and what happened at the funeral of the pastor.
