Emma sighs comtently as she feels Regina rest her head against her shoulder. Somehow they always end up like this after family dinner and Henry has run off to his room, curled up together on the couch with something neither of them is paying attention to on the TV.

They never question it, talk about it or open up about how right and wonderful it feels, instead the stay content, enjoying how comfortable this feels and choosing to ignore that they’re more like a married couple than just friends. 

No they don’t talk. Instead Regina’s fingers find their way toward Emma’s hair. She loves Emma’s hair and Emma loves Regina’s soothing, adoring touch, lulling her into a sense of serenity and home that she doesn’t feel anywhere else but here. 

She smiles softly as Regina begins absentmindedly running her fingers through Emma’s curls until Emma turn she her head slightly, causing Regina’s touch to ghost across her cheek instead.

Emma’s breath hitches as her skin tingles. She meets Regina’s gaze and her heart flips as Regina leans closer. They move slowly, subtly inching closer until their lips meet, barely touching at first before Emma runs her thumb over Regina’s cheek and kissing her tenderly. 

Her heart flips and for a moment time slows. All she feels is the kiss, reminding her of the light of their magic, of happiness and joy, of being wrapped up in a blanket safe and snug. The butterflies stay in her stomach even as they eventually part. 

When she looks at Regina again, she can’t help but smile, taking in kiss-swollen lips, flushed cheeks and the glow in brown eyes. Emma worries her bottom lip wondering what to say and what this means.
