Potentially Permanent Hiatus
Weirdly fitting that this is my 100th post to this blog.
Evicted never had too much of a following - and for that I am thankful - but I figured I should make some sort of public announcement about it anyway. Over the summer I had another surge of depression where I sort of lost track of time and didn't feel like working on anything, so I ran out of steam for my webcomic. I only just got my motivation back after my trip up north and subsequently getting a job right afterwards but I still can't work up any passion for the project. I still love the characters, but ever since I started it always felt a bit claustrophobic in a way. Not to get too far into details, but the universe I placed the comic in was never mine, the characters were all additions to my friend's kirby oc universe that I just made human (hence the weird addition of having "elements" that I wish I worked in better). Because I never felt like I had full control over it, even though I could've taken control if I wanted to, the plot had too many elements working towards it and that kept turning me off to the idea. Every few months I'd think about scrapping it, so I'm happy I at least got it to run for as long as I did. I might come back to the idea one day, I might not. Like I said, I still like the characters involved, I just don't really like the story I gave them or the art style I decided to use for it. Sorry for those who were invested in the idea. I wish I still was.
So what happens next?
Incidentally, I’m the type of person who likes to have several projects working at once, even if I can’t always handle them all. With this announcement, I don’t have much to work on artistically anymore besides my schoolwork, which I why I decided to start a new comic all together.
For those uninformed, Octopath Traveler is a recently released RPG by Square Enix that features 8 different characters with their own story paths who you can mix and match into your own teams and experiences. The idea is neat and the characters are all interesting, but to everyone's dismay, the characters themselves rarely interact with each other outside of short scripted events. Seeing as how I have large swaths of free time and need some large project to keep myself active art wise, I decided that I'm going to be the one to deliver that. I present my newest in a long line of shitty ideas: The Octopath Travels. Basically, it's just a comic reworking of the thief character (Therion's) path, but focuses on him running into all the other characters and how they would potentially have interacted with each other in the actual game. I felt like making something with the backstory and the characters mostly written for me would help me to focus more on dialogue, plot progression, and the art itself rather than... everything at once. My other idea was just a pokemon comic, but I've already tried and failed like 3 of those.
Anyone interested in the new idea can follow the blog it will be hosted at here. I already have a decent amount of it written and drawn out, and I plan to start actually posting things around the beginning of September once I move back into college. Thanks for all the support and for giving me a reason to go on as long as I did in the first place.
