Reminder everybody that duckduckgo.com exists and doesn’t track you and doesn’t store your search history. This is good for counter-surveillance reasons, but it also confuses the hell out of advertisers. If you don’t like the search results you get on duckduckgo, you can always search something there and add “!g” to the end of the search and it will route the search through Google, but still will not track you. This is a really easy thing almost everybody can do to resist government surveillance and advertiser tracking.

Computer people are rabid, hoarding animals. Fyi.

Oh btw. I did a keyboard transplant.

The palmrest on the right has chewed up edges.

And it worked.

But I had to borrow a hard drive from a mystery Macbook to test it since I don't have my own yet.

(Not pictured because privacy)

And that laptop was missing a hdd cable.

So not only did I perform a keyboard transplant but I ALSO solved the mystery of the random laptop! Sort of! I'm still looking for how to get ahold of the guy.

Successful Macbook surgery is 13% tools and practice, 72% trash talking innocent hardware, 10% suddenly wanting to know the name of the person came up with this idea so you can disassemble them, and 5% thinking, "you know, this design is actually kind of neat, I might want one for... education purposes" as the tiny, shiny case screws are finally screwed in.

I hereby certify myself a Macbook reassembly goddess.

Three days of intermittent surgery. Two Macbooks disassembled, one cleaned and reassembled, and one used as a map to make sure everything (especially screws) was correct. One Macbook left to put back together with a new part that came in today.

I think MacBooks are pretty neat now that I've thoroughly taken them apart. They really aren't any harder than any other laptop. I still have some experimenting to do with the OS though. I prefer Linux on my machines (except for some games that require Windows) but I'm not going to let that stand between me and understanding Macs.
