Kara can’t see Alex’s face from where her head is currently resting in her sister’s lap, but the way the words get caught in Alex throat before they fall out, the sob that follows, hits Kara right in the chest.

“Hey, I know, I know,” Kara says, sitting up and pulling her sister into her arms. She presses a kiss to the side of Alex’s head as fresh tears fall down Alex’s face. “I’m here now, it’s okay.”

Kara knows the Phantom Zone is something that’s going to haunt her for a long time, if the nightmares from the past three days since her return are anything to go by.

But it’s also going to haunt those who love her, those who lost her, those who didn’t know if she’d ever return and spent over a month fighting to get her back.

“I…” Alex’s voice catches on a sob again. Kara wishes there was something she could do, some way to make Alex feel better because she’s the reason she’s hurting in the first place.

“It’s okay,” Kara repeats, holding her sister close. Alex’s touch is grounding, reminds her that she’s back on Earth, that she’s back with her family, that she’s back home. She hopes it does the same for Alex.

“No…I…we had a way to find you, a month ago. Lena built a device to lead us to you, but we had to-“ Alex’s voice catches again before she clears her throat. “We had to choose, you or thousands of people and I-I chose them over you. You were stuck there for so long because I didn’t choose you. I’m you sister and I didn’t choose you.”

Kara can hear the guilt in her sister’s voice and tears fall from her own eyes. She doesn’t blame Alex, she doesn’t blame any of them, she’s just happy they found her.

“Alex,” Kara says, waiting until watery eyes look up and meet her own. “You saved thousands of people, I would’ve given my life for them in heartbeat. I don’t blame you, you’re the one that brought me home. And I’m here now, everything’s okay.”

Alex has been the one comforting her for the past few days, it’s Kara’s turn to return the favour.

“I know, but it was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do, choosing others over you.”

“Come here,” Kara says, tugging her sister forward again.

Alex easily tucks her head into Kara’s shoulder as another wave of tears soak through Kara’s shirt.

It takes a while but Alex’s breathing eventually evens out, Alex’s face dry even if she’s still tucked into Kara’s side. They both need this, this reassurance that it’s not a dream, that she’s really back and isn’t going to disappear if they open their eyes.

“Lena couldn’t choose.”

Kara’s heart skips at the mere mention of Lena. She swallows heavily. “What?”

“No, that’s wrong. She did choose, but she chose you. She knew thousands of people would die but she chose you anyway.”

Brain: hoe don’t do it

Earlier this summer, the zine as a whole decided to send copies of the zine and enamel pins to Katie, Melissa, and Nicole. Today, Mod Ayesha received this response.

Please forgive me, because I honestly cannot remember if I’ve written to thank you for your groups most astonishing donation to such worthy charities. If I have not, then Thank God I’m doing it now, but if I have please excuse a very tired actress brain; Having said that such an astonishingly generous action surely deserves many, many thank you’s so maybe I should sent quite a few notes so you’ll know how deeply, honestly touched and blown away I am by what you’ve all done. Never in my craziest dreams could I have imagined that a character that I’ve played could, in conjunction with Supergirl and the whole show have inspired such admiration. I am so beyond thankful and I want you all to know how much its meant to me and everyone up here in National City.

so she’s on a flight from national city to metropolis, and her seat neighbour is a woman around her age who is almost vibrating with excitement. as soon as lena sits down she introduces herself (“i’m kara danvers, have you seen the menu we get here??”) and lena politely interacts with her because 1) this woman is a breath of fresh air and 2) she’s gorgeous. as they take off, kara tells her this is her first time on an airplane and how she’s visiting her cousin and his wife because his wife is about to win a pulitzer and her boss is flying her out to cover the event and let her use her frequent flyers points to get an upgrade and she’s so excited to see her cousins son who is so cute and do you want to see photos of him? he’s really cute.

finally half way through the flight, kara asks lena what she does. “uh, business.... stuff.” and when kara asks for more specifics she tells her about the green energy stuff her company is involved with and kara starts asking her really specific questions about green energy and lena is more than impressed with her. and then before she knows it, kara is giving her suggestions about some of the plane prototypes and lena is giving her her business card in case she ever needs anything. and kara finally realizes she’s speaking to lena gosh darn luthor and bugs out and apologizes and lena just laughs it off, and says,

“you can make it up to me by buying me a drink some time.”

The not-so-small-anymore baby beaaans. I didn’t even think about doing them for the oc challenge at first. Guess I don’t even see them as my oc’s because I just slapped them into an existing world with existing characters.

I probably wont do all prompts, some of them really have me ehh..might just pick a couple more that I like. I already got lazy towards the end here, but I’ll blame that on trying to play catch up in one day.

Also surprise they have names now. It’s only been two years. Have some more blah bah under the cut

15. bed warm

Kara floats in through the window and hovers for a moment; she can’t help but pause to think about how lucky she is. This is her life now. She gets to be the person who flies off to be Supergirl and comes home to Lena, soft and asleep in her bed.

The television’s still on, the news anchor speaking decisively and softly into the empty apartment. The light on the nightstand is on as well, the warm glow illuminating her. Lena’s got a book still in her hands, her thumb tucked in between two of the pages. There’s a chance that was her place, but there’s an equal chance that she fell asleep reading and tucked her fingers through a random set of pages as it fell. She tried to stay awake and wait up for Kara, that’s what counts.

Kara closes the window still hovering, lowers herself down to the floor with the softest footfalls she can manage.

Lena doesn’t stir when she clicks off the television, or as she changes out of her super suit and into the boxers and t-shirt that Lena left for Kara on the chair next to her side of the bed.

(She has a side of the bed, now. She’s that kind of person.)

“Lena,” she whispers, as she reaches for Lena’s book and sets it closed on the nightstand. She knows better than to dog-ear a corner or leave it open to keep her place, by now. Lena will find the right page in the morning.

Lena stirs just long enough to sigh, and wrap the sheets around herself a little more tightly. It’s a chilly evening, the first genuinely cold summer night signalling the coming autumn. Kara chuckles. “Lena, I’m home.”

She lifts the sheets, tries to slide into bed beside her. Lena’s managed to position herself in the dead center of the bed, twisted just enough to wrap the sheets firmly around herself, cocoon-like. Kara tugs at the comforter, lifts it just enough that Lena rolls to the side a little. It exposes her back to the cool air of Kara’s apartment and she sighs, mumbles, “No.”

The indignation Lena manages, even half-asleep, is impressive. Kara takes the opportunity to slip in beside her, pressing front to Lena’s back. Lena’s skin is hot to the touch, soft and smooth and sleep-warmed and Kara nuzzles into her with a happy sigh. “Hey,” Kara whispers. “It’s me,”

Lena whines again. “You’re cold.”

Kara shifts a little, wriggling forward against Lena’s back. “You can warm me up,” she says.

She means it chastely; her skin is cool to the touch from flying in the night air. Being next to Lena and cuddling will thaw her out. “You’re stealing all my warm,” Lena mumbles. “Don’t be horny until I’m warm.”

“Alright,” Kara says, letting her arms relax against Lena’s middle. Her nose is cold, and for a moment she thinks about pressing it to Lena’s nape, before she thinks better of it. “I’ll be horny later.”

“Good,” Lena says. She sighs, her breathing starting to slow again - she’s already drifting back to sleep.

"What—"

Something in her ears pops, like she forgot to equalize the pressure as a plane descends, a thick sound like something more than just air is trying to get out, only instead it goes in. With it, so much noise her brain doesn't even register it as sound so much as a force against her eardrums, building and building.

If it doesn't stop, her eardrums will burst. Maybe. 160 decibels will burst an eardrum. This has got to be louder than that, but it's not a sudden burst of sound. The physics isn't right.

"I can't— I can't hear. I can't— There's too much noise, I can't hear!"

Her hands hover at the sides of her head, but with every tremor that runs through them comes more sound, so loud and close her ears ache all the way through her head. Through— through Kara's head?

Kara crawls over to her, awkward in Lena's skirt. Awkward in Lena's body.

"Whistle," Lena thinks she says. Kara says, with Lena's mouth, and then forms a little circle and does just that.

It drowns out everything else, but it's just more noise on top of too much already, and she can still feel the weight of the sound in her head.

She watches her own hand reach out, settle over Kara's breastbone. Her finger starts to tap.

"Listen for this."

She finds the sound of her own heartbeat in the noise under the whistle, thundering too fast for just sitting on the floor of her office. She watches her face start to whistle again, Kara leans in, whistles against Lena's ear, and the sound mixes with the low tone Lena is making, the rush of Kara's breath continuing even as the sound fades out. Kara pulls back and Lena can see she's still blowing a slow trickle of breath out between pursed lips.

"Now you."

When the sound of her own whistling dispurses into nothing, the room is silent.

"What—" It's not her voice. Which makes sense because this is not her body. That would be crouched on the rug in front of her, fingers twisted together in a show of anxiety she would never allow herself. "What the fucking hell just happened?"

In her head she sounds like she always does, that tangled mix of her mother's accent with that of the family that raised her, her Rs all wrong for either. Now, she sounds like….

"It's me," she says, the she in front of her. "It's just Kara."

I personally won't do anything but continue to ship and love them. I think it'll be a complete waste of potential if they don't become canon, but I have no idea whether that'll happen or not. The show is certainly developing where Kara and Lena's relationship could easily turn romantic, I mean there's clearly something there and they already love each other so much, but whether the writers will go down that path or not, I have no idea.

I can only hope that they will become canon.

And hoping is part of the fun too, reading into every look, every gesture and every conversation and what it could all mean. (It means they're in love, I mean have you seen how much they flirt and how much they clearly care about each other?!)
