βyour eyes hella red u been smokin??β no I been crying bitch leave me alone
Dude today (yesterday now ig) sucked. I always wear a cute little outfit for valentines so I got my outfit together but couldn't find the shirt I had planned to wear with it. Found a shirt ok cool. Couldn't find my shoes borrowed a pair from my mom. Then I'm about to leave its all good and my heart tights rip down the entire side.
And then I have a panic attack cause I'm gonna be late to class because I have to change and I can't find a way to rework the outfit in a way I like π
Anyways I put a boring outfit on and cry on my 30 minute drive to class (where i had to turn around part way thru bc i forgot my textbook for my evening class) and proceed to be almost 30 minutes late bc there was traffic too.
Then I ripped the pants I wore! The little belt loop thing ripped off of the rest of the pant like what the fuck ugh
So ig ima wear a version of my outfit for half price chocolate day lol
so thereβs a dynamic that is at least true in my life and might be part of a much broader trend. I donβt know for sure whether this is widely applicable but I wanna throw it out there in case it is, or in case it just makes sense to others in some way that is useful.
the dynamic is this:
when Iβm in spaces of predominately disabled people, and/or spaces in which accessibility is at the forefront of peopleβs minds, there is a default assumption that everyone is doing their best to be kind, and that our interpretation of others body language, manner of communication, etc. should always err on the side of assuming they are being genuine and engaged to the best of their ability, that there is nothing malicious going on.
In contrast, when i am in more general settings (esp places that do not forefront disability and accessibility) there is a default assumption that any atypical way of behaving or communicating indicates some level of negative emotion or underlying social/interpersonal tension.
I got thinking about this after I saw that post where a HoH person was mentioning someone immediately getting angry and defensive towards them for not hearing them and then immediately becoming apologetic when they were informed the person was deaf in one ear. And in the notes someone was defending the initial reaction of anger by saying that the person probably assumed they were being deliberately ignored.
It got me thinking about other things like this. I remember in middle school getting a quiz that was a blank seating chart and we needed to write down the full names of everyone in our class and where they sat. I stayed after class and asked if I could have extra credit to make it up because I have a very bad memory and do not remember names easily. The teacher told me that not remembering peopleβs names meant I did not respect them and that I needed to care about other people. I burst into tears having this stated so plainly that my inability was interpreted as cruelty.
I was thinking about how my wife is autistic and for her it takes conscious effort to make facial expressions and prefers to use as few words as possible to conserve that specific kind of energy. And I was thinking about how many stories she has of people assuming she didnβt want to be someoneβs friend or was being passive aggressive or something just because she didnβt overly emote or because she used few words or texted K instead of βokay!! βΊοΈβ or whatever.
I was thinking about how often physical inability to do things is cast as βlazinessβ and laziness carries the implication of feeling entitled to othersβ work. I think about visibly physically disabled people who (for example) complain about service workers discriminating against them (e.g. a driver refusing to provide service when someone has a service dog or wheelchair) where people readily assume the disabled person holds a feeling of superiority and entitlement towards workers.
I was thinking about how the inability to pronounce things or to do certain tasks is immediately assumed to mean βnot caring aboutβ those things. The idea that if someone cancels last second due to a pain flare up or a mental illness trigger that they are enacting a deliberate cruelty towards the friend they cancelled on.
And then I was thinking about howβ¦
disabled people who are not adept at the way that able society functions with a default assumption of malice are often bullied or made fun of specifically because they assume good faith from other people by default.
Someone asks them out and they assume the person is being honest because their default is to assume good faith. Someone asks them what they mean when they say a common word and they give an in-depth explanation about what it means and everyone laughs because βobviously we know what it means, we were just fucking with you.β Someone asks a question and they assume they want to know the answer to the question, and then find out it was a trick question or a social test and there was already a βright answerβ and βwrong answer.β Someone doesnβt respond to them so they repeat their question over again, or write it down and give it to them, or try to find alternate means to communicate, and then the person says βI dont want to talk to you, take the hint!β
Like there just seems to be this dynamic at play where broad accessibility really does require an effort to assume good faith and default to kindness, but functioning in the rest of the world requires constant suspicion and always looking for ways in which people might be trying to be mean for some reason.
And I do think that in scenarios like the HoH person described in that post, where the only information someone has is that they said something and the other person didnβt respondβof course after a lifetime of people being mean we might suspect someone being mean, but like if we have to choose one default or the other with a strangerβwhy canβt the default be assuming good faith? Like canβt we please be kind as our default? I feel like adapting to a default of assuming unkindness and social tricks should not be expected of disabled people. This is something where rest of the culture needs to make an effort adapt to defaulting to kindness and patience.
Sure maybe someone is being an asshole, but you donβt have to be. if you assume someone just didnβt hear you and repeat yourself or write it down and someone is mean to you about it, you didnβt do anything wrong! The person being an asshole (about you simply trying to communicate and assuming kindness) is clearly the one messing up that social interaction. We should all give each other grace.
it's very important I think to both have in your life a) people who will listen to your insecurities and gently reassure you that they don't necessarily reflect reality b) people who will listen to your insecurities and say "that's the stupidest shit I've ever heard. you think WHAT about yourself??? I'm gonna kill you"

To any other mentally ill person I know,
Do you ever feel so inherently enraged that
despite the countless, painful hours youβll slave away in therapy over the course of your life,
and despite your hard earned money spent on psychiatrist appointments (majority of the time, multiple, bc we all havenβt gelled with our first or even our second practitioner - and that after all, is the keystone to making progress),
oh, and meds, letβs not forget the $ and time that goes into finding the right cocktail for your brain,
That you will never fully experience this life like others?
βLife is what you make itβ and all that bullshit, but for some of us, weβre years behind and weβve already missed the starting gun.. and then the second and third and fourth race starting gun.
And some of us, through no fault of our own, donβt even make it to the second race.
And even in absence, weβre labelled selfish, after years of being preached at that labels arenβt helpful and only puts the individual in a box.
To the selfish ones, your people see you, but this time not with a grimace mirrored on your faces, but with a ethereal peaceful expression.
My brother keeps eating my gluten free food and I'm like actually going to kill him.
Like dude wtf. My dad was like if you don't want anyone eating your stuff put it in your room ok cool it's in my room and he comes in here and eats it anyway I'm going to kill him.
I got a whole snack pack from my aunt cause I can't not be gluten free or ill die and she is too so she knows what's good already and she got me some oreos.
I had a quarter of my gluten free birthday cake left and I come home and it's all gone. Which whatever we all were eating it but my parents both said they didnt eat the last piece so ig my brother did. I just went to eat some of my oreos and they were already open and almost half of them were eaten.

I- so iβm not just fucking insane and evil?
I feel like a lot of peoples getting offended by this doesnt realize that none of those are actions we want to do. My ADD absolutely fills my head with extremely upsetting intrusive toughts almost 24/7. The very fact that they disgust me and upset me is what makes it an intrusive tought. Its not something you want to act upon, its your brain assaulting you non stop with everything that you hate and despise.
This idea that intrusive thoughts are someoneβs βtrue idβ talking is particularly harmful to us experiencing these thoughts themselves.
If y'all havenβt yet heard it before you heard it here now, these thought are everything we hate and despise, and nothing else.

Love realizing I'm touch starved :/
Especially when it's cause someone doesn't understand boundaries and im too anxious to say anything. I just wanna go see my bff but she's over an hour way and we're both always busy.
Feeling really underappretated lately.
So one of my hyperfixations for the past year or so has been the am I the asshole subreddit. (I'm not fond of reddit- so I see reposts on twitter). And I share any and all of my hyperfixations/special interests by talking peoples ears off. It's a thing you know I'm engaged and enjoying your company if I'm blabbing on about whatever (usually the sims or like science crap). I have however realized that me info dumping about sims or botw actually pisses off my mom really bad. So in an effort to be slightly less annoying I started reading the aita post to whoever is around.
Most of the time it's cool and fine and I end up having like a 'normal person' discussion about it.
However, my mom apparently has to forever be an ass and ruiner of my year. She like doesn't like when I do that either. I was reading one to my dad and brother the other day and she just yelled my name really loudly repeatedly until I stopped.
Beyond the fact that neither of the people I was actually reading it to were annoyed- I am a grown person now, she's a fully grown woman, can't u just say that you don't wanna hear me like a normal person instead of yelling at me like I'm some kind of dog.
It sucks because infodumping is like my love language. My dad and my brother are the same way and she just hates it. We'll sit on the couch listening to eachother babble about shit we're not really that interested in but enjoying eachothers company. My dad will talk about sailboat, my brother tanks, and I'll talk about like animal crossing. It's cool when we all r hyperfixating on the same shit- like our bees.
But my mom is just annoyed by it- like it fully pisses her off. And then when I stop she gets upset I'm not talking to her... like what.
It's so frustrating.
I get such bad anxiety whenever anyone asks me anything about grades or GPA or anything of the sort because of my mother.
I am chronically bad about turning anything in or doing anything on time so shit kinda hits the fan but my mom losses her shit every single time. Like mom I'm already stressed out cause I can't do anything right I don't need you screaming at me, donating all 300 something of my books, slapping me, etc.
I have issues and obviously that not an excuse for me to constantly do mediocre in school but nothing my mother has ever done has made it better.
It didn't click in my brain that my mom is abusive until I started living in a dorm. Everything just kinda clicked. Other people don't get screamed at because of grades (not as much as I ever have).
My mom is ok most of the time but I literally can't chill out around her because I'm afraid she's gearing up to loose her shit on me.
The second I pull down my wall she's there with a bat ready to bash my skull (metaphorically. I'm not in life threatening danger).
I used to have this recurring dream that she broke a stain glass window in our old house. I thought it was just a dream, something my brain made up to compare to all the other shit she broke or threw as I was growing up- turns out I didn't make it up.
The window wasn't stained glass but there was a stain glass turtle that sat next to it. She had thrown a candle through the window...
Ugh being neurodivergent gets me clocked more that any of my 'feminine' traits ever do. Like what about me stimming in public is inherently woman like- Karen.
I'm exhausted and like I'm not expecting correct pronouns no one in public ever does but I look more masculine most people think ima dude in public for the most part. I don't usually let getting misgendered get to me (I'm not fully out) but its one thing to use she/her toward me and another to get called lady,ma'am,girl, etc all week. On a similar note I really need to come out to my friend who uses the phrase ma'am so often cause I've canceled on her when I knew I couldn't deal with that.
But I've been having a shit ass past couple days and it hurts to look people in the face and I can't mask for shit rn and apparently if I'm being more anxious that = lady somehow.
Also it's holiday shopping time and my customer service voice is like so fucking high. The amounts of ma'am I got this past weekend was ridiculous. I literally just went and cried in my car during my lunch break...
I gotta work on voice training more and also im gonna punch the person who told everyone to do their Xmas shopping early.
If I get sassed at by another customer this week ima snap.
I just had the worst meltdown I have had in YEARS and it was caused by my grandfather. Ugh I'm exhausted and I just hope my throat isnt too sore from screaming and that my cheeks aren't red cause boy do they hurt. I think letting people think I got slapped in the face would be less embarrassing than explaining oh no that was me
I just ugh I legitally was about to throw myself into a freezing shower fully clothed bc that was the only thing that would shock me out of meltdowns/breakdowns as a kid- and well I literally don't remember the last time I had a meltdown this bad, probably about when I was 7 or 8 maybe even younger.

Questioning my gender actually sucks...
Like logically I know no one has a good time with it but when I was figuring out I was bisexual it was so easy.
Nothing about this is easy. Just the figuring out what even am I like sure some form of nonbinary,,, I think,,, but I just ugh
And on one hand I'm like it's a journey dude take your time figuring urself out but on the other hand I'm like fuck, u should know this about yourself....
so I'm TRYING to take it one step at a time but just overwhelmed and feeling shitty in my body... like just now that I'm out of my denial phase of "oh well everyone with boobs wants to be flat sometimes wanting a binder is completely normal" I can just see all the shit I've thought for year and it just clicks. And I finally have ACTUAL free reign of whatever I wear (bc I have means to buy my own clothing and am about to leave for college) instead of my mom forcing me to be super feminine when I don't want to.
And it's just more confusing because sometimes I don't mind looking feminine it just dhakanfhfkKajfjdkadjfnajsk
Terrible awful horrible ugh djfkskalfjsn
Also my legal name is like fine I guess but even if I was cis I don't feel any connection to it because it is so common. I literally don't even respond to my legal name if I'm in a public place because it's that common. And finding a name I like is stressful. So I will be going by my nickname that I like much more for now, Light.
and of course i never want to tell someone using tone indicators at me to STOP bc then im being a dick, but likeβ¦.i just sit there confused for a while afterward trying to analyze what the hell they were trying to tell me. without indicators i just generally take everything at face value within the most logical context for it, and for the most part i can detect sarcasm and satire based on that, but absolutely nothing has prepared me for the new online social norm of just inventing a tone of voice and expecting me to understand what it is and why it needs to be specified.
IM SO GLAD ITS NOT JUST ME!!! like. who thought inventing an entire new system of social expectations and manners youβre expected to know and understand on an intuitive level was helpful for autistic people? or any neurodivergent person? sarcasm was enough!! i dont know what some of these are! whats the difference between half-joking and lighthearted and joking!!! im going to die
