you can interpret main characters as morally grey or evil (a lot of times they are) but atp it feels like antis hate him and ignore any changes or developments in his personality, at least acknowledge him as part of the 'phantomfam' he helped to create. there would be no phantomfam w/o sebastian because there would be no o!ciel and phantomhive manor w/o sebastian,,, hell, there'd be no kuroshitsuji w/o sebastian. actually fun fact it's called éťĺˇäş kuroshitsuji (black butler) not 貴ćĺ kizokuko (noble kid).
they hate him until they sexualise him into the molds they want, usually within the ships they like [nothing wrong with those ships per se but they're viewed as 'correct' while the most canonical ship is wrong(?)] or they only love him after they take away all his sexual characteristics and turn him into a cat loving spinster, a dad/mom figure with no other characteristics other than (1) love cat, (2) dad/mombastian, (3) cooking and cleaning, nothing else but that ruins him because he's not that flat of a character in the original work... from what we've seen he likes a lot of things, he enjoys playing this butler game with ciel, he likes being mean and flirty, he likes being around certain humans like agni who he genuinely seemed to respect despite being a demon, he likes the concept of death and finds it beautiful, he has an eye for fashion and a lot more.
the way they treat him is akin to how society treated women in the victorian era... either the angel of the house (maternal figure, or in his case, paternal but they do momify him a lot, no sexualised identity or made limited and very 'pure'/'demure') or the hated demonised prostitute (evil evil demon taking advantage of little boy, no parental feelings and no feelings AT ALL, worthless). it's laughable how half of the fandom have such an innate dislike of sebs that they want to deny the changes within him or in the best case scenario, they'd minimise it. not to mention how they want ciel to be the perfect little sex-repulsed victim but other people have made posts about that before. my focus is on sebastian who is so grossly mischaracterised by antis, they are either purposely misunderstanding him or just very obtuse.

Honestly, I think a giant reason sooooo many antis hate sebastian so much is because they have warped Cielâs character into the hapless innocent child victim, despite that going against his entire essence and everything the story has shown usâyes, even if all youâve seen are the anime, including non canon anime.
So if Sebastian is planning to eat ciel, if heâs a demon, clearly heâs the epitome of evil because he wants to destroy this poor, sweet, completely innocent kid who never did anything wrong until the big bad demon came along to corrupt and twist him.

It goes along with how incapable antis are of understanding the layers of meaning and nuance Yana has imbued into her work. They donât understand Ciel, so ofc how could they possibly understand what a nonhuman entity whose entire existence is so foreign to our own?
Itâs easier for them to decide that HE is the ultimate evil than it is for them to accept the message of the story: true evil doesnât come from demons but from other humans.
A demon did not rape Ciel and his twin.

this is a sentence i heard from my own mother after we watched and read kuro in its entirety. it's fascinating how people with media literacy (especially novelists like prev and my mum) can reach this conclusion so easily but antis online who come in all ages cannot. i genuinely believe this is the true point of kuroshitsuji and im honestly shocked how it links directly to antis hating sebastian. my peabrain assumed they were just being edgy by hating the sexyman of the story or guessed that they likely hated him as part of the "problematic" main couple (a lot of antis don't deny sebaciel being indicated but paint sebastian as a predator with ciel having no input in their relationship which is an odd interpretation but it justifies sebastian slander which antis love to engage in) but i now see it could have its roots in them fundamentally misunderstanding the point of the story. some of these people may genuinely think yana is writing sebastian as an antagonist and the fact they could have possibly misunderstood this story THIS badly is a terrifying thought- what has this fandom come to?

I've noticed something very precious interesting while rewatching S1 versus S4, I had to dig in the manga to satiate my find.
It's evident that Sebaciel's dynamic and bond shifted compared to their first years together. One development stands out cutely, though.
The art of doing more than what Ciel asked somehow became a thing.
Sebastian is a demon that is initially known for walking around one's phrasing and the literal meaning of things. He will play into the unsaid, twist careless sentences to his advantage â as far as to sometimes mock and poke at his master. As obedient as he is, Sebastian is not the entity to ever dare assume nor expect good faith from.
The best example of it would be the entirety of chapter 138, the refinement of their contract.
He also mercilessly reminds Ciel not to get careless around him, down to the very weight of his every word or absence of. It happens first in chapter 8 during the Jack the Ripper arc. Ciel had requested all potential human suspects, overlooking the idea of a divine identity being at play. Sebastian does not let that pass. After all, the devil is in the details.
It happens another time in chapter 28.
Both incidents are within the first half of their third year together. If we move down the chapters, things start to get cute interesting. Sebastian goes from the merciless evil at Ciel's neck to an incredible partner in crime. Fangs remain but...
The Book of the Atlantic and Public School arcs were such a feast for their burgeoning bond. Rather, makes it much more forefront than before.
Once more, some short chapters after, Sebastian asks to stop by the Somerset House and Ciel goes along the request without question.
Sebastian has gradually picked the habit of doing certain things to aid Ciel without being ordered nor hinted to do so. Actions Ciel could have worked out himself, actions Ciel is expected to think through and order himself. It's huge!
Sebastian has aesthetics, any task he is ordered to do, he will do one hell of a good job. Yes. But their contract never demanded him to go out of his way to ease the boy's life.
Now, actions are one thing but what about words? Let's rewind.
Throughout the journey, we know Sebastian as someone who doesn't mince words nor refrains from commentary, sarcasm included. It's something well put in place in chapter 138-140 as well as Ciel's utter dislike of it.
Fun thing? The very next chapter returns to the present moment, four years after the contract, nearly half a decade after their meeting and contract settlement.
He's gotten a whole lot more comfortable speaking up his mind, comfortable to do tasks and support him without the permission of Ciel, at least, not explicitly. And Ciel? Well Ciel has grown accustomed to it, doesn't deem it an issue. There's years of growing trust leading to all this.
That panel of R!Ciel feels violent on all levels. It's true. Just who does Sebastian think he is? The leash around his neck sure has loosened a lot, Ciel allows him to roam in both actions and talks way beyond Sebastian's initial role. Enough for a colder blooded earl to snap when faced with that behaviour.
Sebastian never apologizes nor bows to the âactualâ earl in that scene. (Laughs)
TLDR? For someone who started as fickle and vile when it comes to his little master â It has long ceased to be mere clinical obedience, it has become laced with devotion.
i hate them. theyâre disgusting. people around them are dying, and all they care about is that they have each other. sebastianâs satisfied smile because he gets to hold his master in his arms again. cielâs response, like itâs all his fault because he wasnât there at the right moment. people become homophobic because of couples like them. theyâre literally flirting in the middle of a battlefield. and then they even look offended when someone points it out.
