This may be a very hot take but TADC is a good story with an awful ending.
Imo it fell off after Episode 6.

I’m not “media illiterate” for wanting important character development to be shown on screen, whether verbally or visually.
I’m not “media illiterate” for wanting the lore that was introduced to be actually developed, regardless of the fact that the show is “character-based.”
I’m not “media illiterate” for wanting more than ONE character of the cast to be focused on.
I’m not “media illiterate” for calling out wasted potential
"Media literacy" needs to be forcibly removed from the collective vocabulary. With pliers if necessary.
Being Ragatha is such a pain, you still get shit for it even if you're right. The fandom was ready to tear her to pieces for daring to object to the golden boy.

i think Ribbit's reaction to Jax telling her he might have accidentally killed his mom really exemplifies how the show treats Jax's actions.
Ribbit is not shocked or scared or disturbed, she just accepts it right away and comforts him. granted, sure, Jax probably didn't mean to hurt or kill his mom. it was an impulsive action. whatever.
but i feel like you should realistically react a little more than just "eh it happens. she's probably fine". is Ribbit just used to their friends casually admitting to manslaughter?
and this is basically how the show treats Jax's behavior too. "eh it's fine that he threw Ragatha into a deep fryer. look, she's okay!" "Gangle doesn't really mind being abused by Jax. see, she agrees with him instead of blaming him for what he did!"
the show wants us to either excuse Jax's actions or just brush past it like it's nothing. just like how Ribbit reacts to his confession, they want us to pat him on the back and say "you can do anything as long as the cops don't catch you".
hey. hey BTW. you can like a show or character that isnt written well. you can like a character that is a bad person and there doesnt need to be an excuse or reason for it. you can relate to a bad character. it's fiction. you're fine. other people can critique it and it doesnt have to be an attack on you because you enjoy it. you can enjoy media and still critically analyze what makes it bad. you will never consume wholly pure entertainment
"TADC is about the characters, not the lore! Who cares if we didn't learn more about C&A??"
Characters don't exist in a vacuum. Learning more about the world and their environment gives us more context about the characters and helps shape them. A character's reaction to a post apocalyptic world is going to say a lot compared to a character's reaction to a typical high school environment.
All of the characters put on a VR headset in an abandoned building at one point or another (except Kinger). It would have been interesting to learn how they got in that situation. We know Pomni and Zooble did urban exploration, but what was Ragatha doing? She said "Hey guys?" as soon as she appeared in the circus. Were they her friends or was she pressured by the group to put on the "scary headset"? Was it a prank or a dare? Did they grab her and force it on to try and scare her? None of her "friends" showed up in the circus so she was the only one that had it on. Was it just some fun between friends or was she transported from one toxic friend group right into another?
Just learning how they got into the circus would have expanded so much on each character, imagine other pieces of lore.
and TADC IS about the lore. Plenty of fans (like myself) were drawn in from the mystery and the lore crafting. you dont have to focus your show on it, but to blow off half your fans and then spit on the rest is a disgusting way to end your show
We will confirm Jax's transgenderism on the social network!
We will show Ragatha and Kinger's room in merch!
Let's reveal Caine's attitude to abstraction in advertising!
You will see Queenie's name only in tumbler or wikipedia!
Amazing digital disclosure anywhere but the fucking show.
if you have to confirm headcanons and theories on social media instad of doing so in your show im js gonna assume you're a bad writer

Evil? Sure. Heartless? Nah.
Putting the term "Catholic guilt" on a high shelf where fandom can't reach it until everyone learns how to identify characters who are very very clearly coded as Protestant.
Grabbing people by the scruff of their necks and shaking them. You know Jax being a terrible person was the point right. That she pushed everyone away despite having all the opportunity to be better.
It's meant to be tragic. That even after all that she realized she wanted to change as her last words and thoughts. She didn't want to go.
It's okay I understand this is baby's first nuance.
i mean, yeah. im not HAPPY jax died. i love the tragedy. i just dont think she was written well before ep 7-8 and even that had its flaws. not to mention my issues w the lack of commitment i felt in her actual death. "she abstracted but abstraction isnt really specified as to.. what it is and all of the monsters are kust in a little aquarium :3" like no make her dead. i want her to be dead to nail in the tragedy, to really make your viewers understand the consequence of not allowing yourself to be real
also, people keep saying she's a cautionary tale and like. yeah. but not just for her, for the rest of the cast. i grew up with two siblings who were addicts. my brother hit a new low and my dad had to distance himself, just months before my brother died. and i think jax shows how friends and family of people in those awful scenarios have the right to step back, even if it DOES end in tragedy. you are not responsible for other people (i need to say my brother was an adult when he died. still very very young, but literally jax's age; it's not as though my dad js stopped caring about his son) and the main cast does their best to help her even when she's awful to them. imo, i see her as abusive to gangle and i haye how the movie teases that but then blows over gangle's grief of the person yhat put her through hell
anywayanyway i like. the idea. of jax's character. but I think for a lot of reasons she was done poorly but ive yapped for way too long im just personally annoyed whenever any criticism of her character is written off as "you have no media literacy" or whatever (im not talking about people who are celebrating her dead because they think awful person deserve to die, yeah that is a black and white childish view) 😭 tadc js disappointed me because i saw so much potential in it
Since the tadc finale is out, I can share my opinion on it
I didn't like it at all, to be honest. If you did, I love that for you tho

This is fucking killing me. Like what
I think one of my biggest criticisms of TADC is that the show kind of bends over backwards to have the other characters care about and be kind to Jax.
Like, throughout the entire show, Jax does almost nothing but actively try to make everyone else in the circus miserable, largely for his own enjoyment. But despite this, he’s given infinite grace and constant forgiveness by the people around him.
Nobody actually holds him accountable for his actions. Even Zooble, the most outwardly hostile of the group, is actually incredibly warm, kind and open to Jax despite his behaviour.
It gets to a point where he almost feels like… A Mary Sue? A writer's pet? I don’t know what exactly you’d call it but I can tell Jax is Goose’s favorite character and that it had a massively negative effect on how other characters around him were written.
