9 To 5 || Fred/Eve
Characters:Â Winnifred Burkle and Eve
Time Frame:Â Two days after the Illyria incident
Location:Â Chemical Warehouse
âNaw,â Fred shook her head, trying to be accommodating. The girl had dropped in to see her, after all, and if sheâd gone to the effort it wouldnât be polite to say she was intruding. Sheâd been brought up better than that, and her daddy would be disappointed to know that the thought had even crossed her mind. âI donât mind the company. Youâre still quieter than a warehouse full of people, after all - quiet as a mouse, actually, given how easy you snuck up on me.â She looked her fellow student up and down - Eve really was a pretty girl, even if there was something about her that always seemed a little forced or put on. But, she reconsidered, that wasnât exactly a fair thought. Everyone wore their own masks, for their own reasons, and Eve was no less entitled to hers than anyone else.
âIt really was. Iâm almost sorry I didnât get to a doctor before it was over, because I wish I had some idea what it was I came down with. Iâm exhausted now, truth be told, but I donât mind working. Iâm not so tired Iâm going to fall over, and it keeps me from parkinâ my lazy butt on the couch and passinâ out in the middle of the afternoon every day.â She grinned. âUh - well, both are allowed, technically, but late-night walks are kindaâŚdiscouraged around here. For a small town, thereâs a pretty sky-high crime rate at night. Lots of,â she tried to find a phrasing that didnât sound insane to a stranger, âassaults. People getting hurt. Itâs safer to stay inside unless you know the safe spots. Oh - and you really shouldnât invite anyone into your house unless you know them pretty well. Itâs just that kinda town.â Her brain hurt from trying to talk around the truth.
Eve
Eve had nothing better to do with her eyes and ears than analyze people till she could play them like a fiddle. Thatâs why she had the opportunity to do a mental double take when she caught Fred scanning her body. Oh? That could be an interesting angle to play. On the other hand, Fred hadnât been blatantly flirtatious and some peopleâlike, well, herselfâwere just natural flirts. Still, most people didnât avoid intense eye contact by searching the rest of someoneâs body. âI have a habit of dropping in on people unnoticed. Gives you the upper hand in conversations. Not that Iâd need it hereâŚâ Eve shrugged and clasped her hands behind her back.
Fred had a little bit of a tendency to ramble. That made her job a lot easier. Not only did it show that her thoughts were probably unedited, but it showed the process behind the thoughts. Though Eve honestly hadnât expected quite the way she spoke, with how poised she seemed. Or that the rambles would actually contain so much different information. âI donât think itâs lazy if all you can say about not being tired is that youâre not about to fall over,â she finally put forward. This town was silly. If you knew secrets, you could tell who else knew them with a question or two. And that was a response from someone with knowledge about the paranormal if sheâd ever heard one. âWhich is why a pretty girl like you is safe in an otherwise abandoned warehouse, and why itâs okay to tell someone from the internet where you live. Do as I say, not as I do, huh?â Eve raised her eyebrows in a teasing yet challenging way. âIâve never been one to shy away from danger unless itâs a sure-fire thing.â She worked for danger, for goodness sake.
