Starter Call?
pace canât really laugh; he has to get his kicks with dry humor and under-the-breath snickering. he does grin wide though at the apology heâs given, listening as texâs claws click on the linoleum and then leave the kitchen. she must be fine with the guy, which means pace is too. once fingers close around the ice pack, he makes a little humming sound of success.
â i donât give a shit, really, â  pace says, the smile still showing through his voice as he wraps the ice pack in a towel that was hanging on a cabinet handle beforehand. the little bundle is extended outwards to gusâ voice.  â â here you go. that should do it? i have ibuprofen if it doesnât help. â
The dog stops sniffing him and leaves the two to head somewhere else. Gus is silently thankful. Heâs fine with dogs, but getting sniffed up by one for the entire time heâs here just does not sound appealing in the least -- even if heâs here for only a few minutes.
Gus takes the ice pack from Pace gently and puts it to his shoulder. He hisses a little at the feeling, but keeps it there anyway. He really hopes he doesnât have to go see a doctor about this.
âThanks, this should be fine.â Gus goes quiet for a long moment. âI uh -- sorry.â Why are you apologizing? You arenât the one who dropped the phone on somebody. âIâll be out of your hair in a few minutes. I donât wanna be a bother.â
his fingers tap against the bar gently as he awaits for his drink and turns his body COMPLETELY towards gus. he bares no shame as he allows his eyes to travel up and down his body before back to resting on his face. â â-thomas. you can call me tj, though. â
Gus gives a playful laugh to TJ while he very obviously checks Gus out.    The motion is returned, a bit more subtly though -- well, until Gusâ tongue    darts out to lick his lips, anyway.    âTj,â Gus repeats out loud. âWell, itâs nice to meet you, TJ. What brings you here?â
Kris watches Gus slide down to the floor, the empathic feedback of confusion and distress making his hands feel unsteady; Kris tucks them into his pockets again. Itâs uncharitable, so he doesnât ask out loud, but moments like this make him wonder once again why people ask questions when they donât really want the answers.
âIâm just exploring the city. I havenât been to Portland before. Itâs nice.â This, too, is honest, though hopefully less upsetting. Offering a small shrug, Kris admits, âI donât know. Aside from being caught in it once, I donât know anything about your ability, whether it has a pattern or reason. You donât seem to be in control of it, at least.â
The last question makes Kris snort, briefly but with genuine amusement. âMe? No, I⌠Iâm fine. Thank you.â It isnât meant to be condescending, itâs just⌠been a very long time since anyone worried about him.
Gus has always believed in things that wouldnât be considered normal. Ghosts, ghouls, and goblins. Okay, maybe not so much the latter two, but he definitely has believed in ghosts and aliens and stuff. They havenât exactly been a focus of his -- try not to blame him, he has other things on his mind -- but it doesnât change the fact that he believes in them.
That doesnât make finding out that there are, in fact, other kinds of beings out there any less hard to take in though. Itâd be like finding out your dog is some kind of spy for another planet to see if the Earth is worth taking over. Okay thatâs a bad example, but itâd freak you out right?
âSo...Where does that leave us then,â Gus asks after a few moments have passed. Kris seems to have as little of an idea about Gusâ visions as he does. He also doesnât need help, so why? Why did Gus see him? Was it just some weird cosmic joke to introduce Gus to beings that wouldnât be considered human? His mind just keeps going back to the question. Why? Why did he see Kris of all people?

Rough first kiss things:
Colliding with the wall so hard one of them is gonna have bruises
Moans of pleasure mixing with a single moan of pain as one of them bites the otherâs lip
Teeth being dragged along necks, mouths being dragged along jawlines
Hands fumbling at hems, zippers, buttons
One raking their fingers through the others hair before gripping at the root, hard enough to be painful
Butt grabs / thigh squeezes

â i could DEFINITELY have another drink. â he may  be BUZZED, but itâd hardly stop him from drinking  more. he slid his empty glass across the counter  and then turned to him. â âyou got a name? â
Gus laughs and mimics the action, raising two fingers to tell    the bartender silently that heâd like to order two more drinks.    âIâm Gus. And you areee?â
heâs definitely gonna puke later. thatâs, like⌠a nonnegotiable fact, at this point.
rykerâs already located the bathroom in the house though, so now all he has to do is remember where it actually is. itâs his own fault for taking a few pre-party shots before coming here, and then volunteering to down what was left in the keg, all with only an instant ramen noodle lunch supporting his body nutrients-wise. heâs never been the good decision type. heâs also never been the stop trying to kill yourself type.Â
so he swallows one last time, straightens, and then lets out an over enthusiastic whoop, lifting his arms in the air and letting his head tip back. only part of him hears the resounding cheer from the tiny crowd â mostly he feels it. the loose, empty-headed joy, the togetherness, the drunken relaxation. god bless alcohol. god bless substance.Â
itâs more of a sway than a walk, and then rykerâs slipping into a chair, his arm bumping against a bystander that seems a little less interested in involving himself with the bulk of the cheerleaders.Â
â  whoooo-yeah, sorry, man. â  he says enthusiastically, wiping at the strangerâs arm where heâd bumped him, like heâd left dust there or something.
â  lookit you, all uptight and judge-y. not into parties? âÂ
Gus canât help but laugh at the guyâs pride over what he just did. If Gus were in his shoes, heâd probably be acting the same way. He doesnât plan on letting that loose tonight though.
After the guy who chugged down the keg starts walking away -- in Gusâ direction -- someone else steps up to the plate to see how much alcohol they can down in as little time as possible. Heâs distracted by them when the first guy ends up bumping into him, but laughs a little when the guy is brushing off his arm.
âJudge-y, huh? Says the guy who comes up to others and judges them before they can even speak.â His tone is light and obviously teasing. He takes a quick drink of the beer in his hand. âI like parties -- and so do you, from the looks of things. You got a name?â
Man, I was not feeling good yesterday. But Iâm feelinâ better today so Iâm gonna work on the few drafts I owe and maybe try my hand at making a promo. Weâll see on that latter part though.

âNot at the moment. Iâll let you know.â Though maybe he should have dug for another one, if this was what it came back to. Licking over the outrageous curve of teeth in his mouth, Kris fidgets, trying to think of an answer.Â
In all honesty, Kris isnât sure heâs ever been human, but he remembers what it felt like to think he was. Doesnât that count? Probably not. âI⌠no. Iâm not. Not anything close.âÂ
Kris says it -- he tells Gus that he isnât human, and thatâs a lot to take in. Gus sinks down against the counter until heâs sitting, back pressed against the hard wood. He runs a hand down his face and lets out a heavy sigh.
It takes a few long moments for him to finally say anything in response to that. âOkay. So, what are you doing here? Why did I see you? Are you in trouble?â
pace pulls a face, but itâs not an offended one; he actually seems fairly amused for a second before he coughs lightly and straightens his expression out, shrugging nonchalantly as the door shuts behind him.Â
â nope, i have this 24-hour caretaker, you know? her nameâs bethany. her mac ân cheese really sucks, but sheâs great at navigating the living room without tripping over anything. â  texâs claws tap-tap-tap out of his room and pace listens as she nears the stranger with a quiet snff. he sets the cane against a wall and gestures, vague but not unkind.  â um, no, i donât actually live with a caretaker â just my brother. â
pace moves into the kitchen, hand gently trailing and smoothing over counters until his knuckles bump the fridge, where he starts rooting around in the freezer for the ice pack he knows they have.
Pace tells some story about a caretaker named Bethany and how great she is at not tripping over things, and the worst part is that Gus actually believes him for a few moments. But then heâs telling Gus about his brother and he feels like even more of an idiot.
Thereâs a dog sniffing him too. He doesnât reach out to pet her, but he lets her continue smelling him as he follows Pace into the kitchen.
âSorry,â Gus offers at his stupidity. âApparently Iâm putting my foot in my mouth right now. Guess I used up all my good words on my new roommate.â He shrugs and leans against the counter while Pace looks -- feels -- inside of his freezer.
