msevylynch Beauty always brings me back ❤️ Whenever I have poured too much of myself in something or someone and it feels like I’m empty, like I’ve scratched the bottom and there is nothing left, I always get up and paint my face in rouge and emerald and sparkly bronzes and it’s as if I’m colouring myself back in with every stroke, reclaiming her in polychromatic defiance of the the feeling of nothingness. There she is, I think, blinking back under lashes and shimmer, pleased to see her again, looking herself. This is why beauty will never feel vapid to me. It’s always been a strong statement of ‘hello I’m here and I won’t be overlooked’. 🙂 (x)

“I write mostly about my own mental health and obsessions. I do it to understand myself better. It’s funny, the things I love to read are usually smart, witty fiction and fairy tales and I find it annoying that my writing and subject matter is always firmly rooted in reality, but that seems to be the thing I need to talk and write about most so I’m letting that play out. But yes I mostly write about my demons because that’s the safest place to explore them. There’s a lot of ugliness in mental health, in the facets of your personality you encounter when you’re not at your best and writing is where I converse with those sides.” — Evanna Lynch (El Film Magazine, April/May 2020)

People are prejudiced against animals  because they’re different and they don’t communicate in the same way  that we do. I think, to a lesser extent, people are prejudiced against  Luna in the same way. She’s bullied for being different. And I really  think she would feel that affinity.” — Evanna Lynch

“A few days ago I tweeted about a victory within the animal rights movement and in doing so was called out for being silent about the rights of black people. It was quite shocking because a) animal rights is an intersectional movement and b) it felt absurd that people should accuse me of being on the side of racists… And then I went to the park and read a fantasy book because I wanted the world to feel joyful again and that is when the penny dropped… I had the privilege of turning away from that ugliness if I felt like it. I had the choice to look elsewhere. I could turn off the racism in a way that Black, Indigenous and People of Colour never fully can. I was avoiding confronting the actual issues being discussed and highlighted because I didn’t want to confront my own complicity in white supremacy or racism. Confronting the fact that I’ve benefited from white supremacy is confronting my own villainy, which I don’t like to acknowledge but I have to because it’s the difference between performative activism (‘look how good I am everyone’) and transformative activism (‘look at all this ugliness inside me that I need to heal’)… I’m sorry for avoiding learning about this issue for so long. I’m going to show up and spend more time listening to people of colour. I am also committing to learning how to use my white privilege to help amplify the voices of BIPOC educators… I’m sorry for not acknowledging that I’m part of the problem until now.
