Still work from another 9 artists to come!
If you haven't made it your homepage yet, what are you waiting for?!
Yo, Glasgow people.
Any contemporary art-lovers/Uni students interested in invigilating at Mary Mary’s offsite exhibition space on Thursday 3rd May?
They desperately need cover on the day! Beautiful flat, great show. Running solely for the Glasgow International Festival. Get in touch with me, if you’re interested!

Firstly a really positive review from Fan The Fire Magazine:

Secondly, some of Andrew's drawn documentation of the event:

Nita Walters
Nita Walters is participating in our online billboard project. Nita has kindly forwarded us a few words about her practice.
“The cars are like silent units, you don’t talk to people… and there are great numbers of people moving on our street.” A neighbour, a translator by trade; an observer of his territory.
My practice investigates visible and invisible lines of communication that direct our movement through both real and virtual time and space. Within this framework I examine the gap between the physicality of looking, searching and travelling versus the armchair explorer; questioning the relationships between people in their relative locations that are bridged by so many communicative devices transporting our voice, thoughts and the idea of the metaphysical self over vast distances without having to worry about border lines distance and time.
My interests lie in the perceived notion of our mental and physical positioning in the world in relation to other people and places in an ever increasingly digitised world. How do individuals perceive space, distance, and time in this increasingly digitised and virtual world?
My practice is based in Birmingham and involves conversation, listening, absorbing, observing and responding to the world as I see it using various methods from sound installation, video, sculpture and paint. Nita Walters

'Inter-dimensional Transposition' at #GI2012
On Saturday 21st April the two artists 'changed places' - sitting in boxes representing each other’s body space in an endurance performance lasting 8 hours.
Boxed in to each other’s spaces the artists responded to the themes of exchange, real-time, and print and paste - themes running though the Castling project and GI as a whole. Visitors to Castling between 11am and 7pm on Saturday were confronted with the presence of the two artists disrupted by the barrier of the boxes they were sitting in. Exchange was welcome and invited between visitor (both physical and virtual) and artist. The artists tweeted from inside their boxes throughout the exchange using the hashtag #inboxes. Here we have gathered, in chronological order, a range of these tweets and images.
And we're off!
45 mins until Castling officially opens to the public! In the meantime you should totally check out www.castlingbillboard.co.uk which is now LIVE!
First up are Birmingham-based artist duo Sparrow+Castice with 'A Representation of 'Castling' Through the Medium of American Fast Food Restaurants'.
'Extra Special Person' Dan Auluk leaves behind rainy Birmingham to head up to Glasgow (via some moody Scots countryside) to join Alison, Gayle, Kate & Kyle for some GI previews this evening. More ESPers to arrive tomorrow!
Two days till the virtual billboard goes live.

We’ve been commissioned to make a little film for the Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art by the Extra Special People of Eastside Projects. It will be shown as part of Castling. The opening of the show/premiere of our picture takes place on Saturday 21st April, and the show will be open until Monday 7th May.
We’ll also be kicking off an online billboard in response to the title of the show, ‘Castling’.

The project title, ‘Castling’, references a maneuver in the game of chess whereby a player is allowed to move more than one piece in a turn. The move was invented to help speed up the game and to help balance offense and defense.
Changing daily, this 'virtual billboard' will be alternately showing works made by invited Birmingham and Glasgow based artists, each responding to previous day’s ‘pasting’. Watch this space for a full list of participating artists...
