Since 2012 Espaço Zebra is a must go for art and cocktail lovers looking for an alternative, underground and authentic place to go in downtown São Paulo. Located on the traditional Bixiga italian neighborhood, Zebra is artist Renato Larini`s open workshop and a Wunderkammer sort fo place. On weekends, Neli Pereira is in charge of the apothecary bar.

Brazilian drinks created by mixologist Neli Pereira

The cambuci or cambucizeiro (Campomanesia phaea) is a fruit tree native to the Atlantic Forest. The species was at risk of extinction as it was heavily exploited due to its excellent quality wood for the manufacture of basic tools and utensils and the deforestation caused by the growth of cities. More recently, new economic applications have been discovered for cambuci, using it to produce jellies, ice cream, juices, liqueurs, mousses and cakes, in addition to being used in juices and macerated in alcoholic beverages. Consequently, the species experienced an improvement in its conservation status. Formerly abundant in the city of São Paulo, it gave name to one of its traditional neighborhoods. [1]

The name Cambuci is of indigenous origin and is due to the shape of its fruits, similar to the ceramic pots that received the same name.
