the television program buffy the vampire slayer is absolutely nooootttttt about the power of friendship. its about the tragedy of being surrounded by people who are too uncomfortable with your painful reality to be willing to meaningfully engage with you
being the slayer is a terminal illness that grosses everyone out if they think too hard about it
That's all true, but it's also about the power of friendship. Buffy's a classic for so many reasons.
Spoilers if people are still within a first watch...

The first thing that comes to mind is, even after all dark Willow did, Xander still takes her into his arms and comforts her. If that isn't powerful friendship / found family, then what is? That had me bawling my eyes out.
Anya is also forgiven for having been a demon. At least twice.
Faith is forgiven for what would have been deemed manslaughter or something like that.
And there's more of course, but I won't make this long.
I love the series because it suggests that everyone might get the chance at redemption.
But yes, there is a lot of misfit stuff and tragedy.
Buffy has it all.
