Went to go see the new Detective Conan movie first thing this morning - it’s really really good! From the start to the end, this year’s movie is action packed!!
(Warning! I put the spoilers under "Keep Reading" but I'm not sure if Tumblr will hide them properly 🥺 please come squeee with me about the movie!)
Definitely want to watch it again, maybe even go for the more expensive 4DX tickets, because it‘ll be an awesome way to experience those chase scenes. ~~Idk if everyone has 4DX but it’s the movie where the seat movies and there are like smoke effects and disturbing puffs of air on the back of your nexk~~

Spoilers under the cut - let’s chat when you watch the movie!!
Summary: Conan gets involved with a mysteries motorcycle rider who seems to have a thing for chasing other riders down and making them crash and burn. Coincidently that gang is visiting Hakone(?) to attend a motorcycle convention. There’s a new company showing off their driver-assist technology for motorcycles that’ll improve the riding abilities of anyone, with the power of AI, and the Japanese police are all for it. Meanwhile between many epic chase scenes Hagiwara Chihaya recalls the morning her brother died, how she overheard him badmouthing her but she wasn’t able to heard what came after the “but”.
Synopsis (It's definitely not an accurate one I'm writing stuff down to remember but I slept 6 hours max total these past two days I'm dead):
So the Shounen Tantei are in Hakone, they want to look at the stars at this spot the hotel staff recommended - a secluded spot, since another road has been built people don't use this road so much anymore. Conan isn't there because... I don't recall, but he's coming tomorrow. Still, it's a cloudy night, and the stars aren't really visible so Haibara remarks that guess he was right.
A headless driver on a motorbike zooms by, scaring Mitsuhiko / Genta / Ayumi.
Skip to Conan who is in the car with Ran and Sonoko, with Kogorou driving. They're following Sera on her bike. So Sera wanted to go to a motorcycle show in Kanagawa, and Ran has recently be interested in motorbikes, which turned into everyone going.
Suddenly - I know! the action is starting so early! - a motorbike with two riders races pass them, and slides between two vehicles causing one car to lose their side mirror. The mirror tears off and hits the windshield of the car in front of them, causing that car to spin and Kogorou has to pull some slick driving moves to avoid a crash (Initial D says hi) - Sera is going to chase but Conan tells her not to.
From behind, a figure clad head to toe in black on a black motorbike jumps into view, chasing the couple in front.
Chihaya follows from behind, on a motorbike, briefly making eye contact with Ran and we see flashes of recognition all round.
The couple running away crash (and die?)
Chihaya keeps pursuing the black rider, and only loses sight of them when she has to make the choice to keep pursuing or rescue a young girl who is crossing the road from bing hit by a truck.

Ran looking at cars, Sera looking for a person, Chihaya is going to be demonstrating the "Assist Program", new technology that will allow the motorbike to guide the rider and instantly give them good riding skills!
Chihaya turned off the program during the demo (probably to beat the high score?) but she did beat it, completing the course in under a minute
The researcher who is presenting is on good times with her. The Shounen Tantei go to him to ask if, with this assist program, would it allow full automation?? That would explain the headless rider. But he says no, we still have a long way to go before automated driving.
Ran tries out the motorbike racing game and gets an A. It's a good score!
This other lady (designer? for the system?) scores an S. Sonoko is like, omg it's famous so and so. The lady asks Ran what bike she rides, that's a good score, it's not an easy course and Ran's like "no, it's just by chance...". Hearing this is the first time she's ridden a bike, the lady comments that what a waste, Ran has good sense.
The researcher and Lady do a presentation on stage talking about the new "assist program" technology.
Movie goes here I'm struggling to keep my eyes open.
So Chihaya took a day off for Hagi's funeral and on that day her sempai Asagi Maki or something was riding the white motorbike, chased a dude, who crashed and died.
The scene from the trailers where Matsuda looks real fucking tired is the day Hagi died. Chihaya was busy and arrived at work asking Juugo if he knew how the bomb diffuses went, he ask if she hasn't seen the news and she's hasn't had a chance to look at all. Matsuda appears looking grim and tired (This is why he started wearing sunnies isn't it) and Chihaya's face has a look of a sinking feeling
Before Climax!
Chihaya goes to answer the challenge of the mystery black-clad rider, Conan is like "that's Asagi-san" and Juugo's like No, and Chihaya confirms "yeah it's her".
They get into a high speed chase and Chihaya knocks Asagi into a blindspot.
Juugo goes racing in but he witnesses the Angel bike without a driver driving off and exploding, then the Lucifer bike driving out with a black-clad driver
Things happening
Turns out, the researcher for the new assist technology is the source of all evil! He's been getting training data by exploiting motorcycle drivers and he plans to run off to another country with the software!
He kidnapped Ran!
Climax!!
It was Corporate Espionage with a side of Revenge
Conan and Chihaya realise that the bikes are equipped with bombs that will go off if the speed goes under 50.
Conan disarms the bomb, only to realise another bomb with a timer is now armed and counting down.
Conan has a plan and Chihaya's like well yeah if it works it works but and Conan's like this is the only way to disarm the bomb and prevent them from shooting
Chihaya gets a call from Juugo, who explains it was him on the phone that day and he knows what Hagi said after "but". Only I've forgotten exactly what he said, beyond Hagi and Matsuda saying on a bike Chihaya's the unrivalled fastest in the world!
Chihaya has courage again now
She rides her bike onto the helicopter (it's a big helicopter), crashing into the dude aiming his gun.
Conan yells at the pilot to turn off the bomb because it's now on the helicopter
The pilot is the LADY FROM THE EXHIBITION WHO RODE WELL. She wants revenge on the researcher and everyone who played a hard in her brother - the guy who died before this movie started - death.
Conan kicks the door open to the cockpit with a soccer ball
Explosions. Lady passes out. Conan takes over flying a doomed helicopter. Chihaya sends the lady down in a parachute.
Conan struggles to control the helicopter that is on fire. No one is saying anything for some reason
So dramatically they leap off the helicopter and slide down some ropes and drop off, only for Chihaya to land in Juugo's arms. Romantic. Oh, Juugo was riding in the backseat of the police car driven by Yumi and Naeko, see there was a reason why it has no roof! it's so he can catch Chihaya!
IIRC Sera catches Conan
Juugo remembers that Matsuda was like only I was hold Chihaya in a princess hold! Sorry Matsuda.
The movie ends
Ran's taken up riding those powered scooters.
Next years movie will be about Shinichi and Ran in London (Big Ben and their voices).
There's a digital present for viewers but I'm not sure what it is.
Moments that made my heart thump:
when Juugo yelled CHIHAYAAAAAA, normally it’s Conan/Shinichi yelling RAAAAAAAAN but I can see who’s the couple here
Ran saving Conan and Sera - right Conan’s frozen unable to avoid the rider but Ran has time to jump in from nowhere and beat a MOVING motorcycle with Karate. Love it.
Conan disarms the bomb but it turns out to be the trigger to another bomb ??? 😭
I totally cried when Juugo remembers how the end of the phone call went - Matsuda grabs the phone and says something like “idk who you are but Hagiwara Chihaya’s gonna be in a wedding dress in princess carry in my arms!” Matsuda he has no idea who you are either…. Anyway Juugo, who caught Chihaya in his arms is thinking sorry Matsuda
when Hagi and Matsuda burst out laughing about Chihaya because they synced when they said on the road on a bike she’s without peer, the fastest in Japan, no, in the world! 🥹🥹🥹

Hagiwara and Matsuda T-T we got a little interaction in the opening intro, I think Hagi was giving Jinpei-chan shit for dying too lol but I’d love to have seen more flashbacks. All we got are their ghosts interacting, Hagi's voice, repeated flashbacks to the day Hagi died, he was chilling at home with Matsuda before they both headed out to disarm a bomb. And then a flashback to Matsuda right after Hagi died, presumably before he delivers the news to Chihaya.
Ran riding a bike! I thought for sure with the bike being called Angel and Ran having unexpected bike skills we would see Ran in a high speed chase…

Went to the Kuroko no Basuke collab cafe at GIGO in Ikebukuro! I hope KnB events never end 🥹 may everyone be so blessed that 10 years after the anime ends you still get merch and events every other month.
This is the second time I go to this event, I went in the first half too. I like the food here, for character food it’s always decent tasting and nicely presented. But the food today was… interesting.
The pasta is apparently nikujaga theme but I just read the characters and ordered 😂 that orange stuff that you think might be smoked salmon?? It’s CARROT. The potato-looking things are potato. It doesn’t taste bad, it’s just unexpected.
Aomine’s drink is so funny I ordered it too even though he’s not my bias. It’s Coca-Cola with blue jelly at the bottom. Get it? Because he’s got dark skin and blue hair…?? 😂
I was able to trade for the Kise chibi coaster I wanted! The girl I traded with was going for Aomine or Midorima, I ended up trading for the Aomine cat from Namja town, but I also gave her the Midorima and Takao chibi coasters I got today. Why? Well I certainly don’t need them… and I can’t just divide them like that 😂 honestly once I’ve managed to get a Kise, I don’t really care for the other characters freebies (except Kuroko) anymore, it’s much better if they can go to someone who will treasure them!!

Nijuu Rasen, or Double Helix, is a long running BL light novel series by renown BL author Reiko Yoshihara (Ai no Kusabi, Genwaku no Kodou) about the taboo love between two brothers, Masaki and Naoto.
This series, which is 15 volumes long (not including the two bonus volumes and the Masaki POV book), reads like a soap opera - there's so much drama and it's so sordid. If you like taboo love affairs, old school BL with all the tropes that come with it - this is definitely a series you'll enjoy! There's also a manga adaption with art by Enjin Yamimaru that currently sits at 4 volumes.
Actually how I came across this series is quite funny, because I wanted to practice reading Japanese (and I am still practicing reading Japanese because I'm still very bad at it). So I went to Bookwalker, and ordered the BL light novels by popularity, and this one popped to the top!
Without reading the summary I purchased all of them.
To my shock and glee it turned out to be an incestuous soap opera with 2000s level BL drama. Confession, I grew up reading Finder series, Okane ga Nai - that shit's my childhood! Literally!! So as much as I love the variety we get in BL nowadays, I cannot live off sweet sweet love alone. I live for the 'taboo', the 'problematic', the 'abusive love' type stories that were so popular back in the day.
While I think the novels have come to an end, the manga is has a long way to go. It's perfect starter for people looking to get into the series! If this sort of taboo love story is your sort of thing, I recommend it!
In volume one we open to the picture perfect Shinomiya family

Sayaka leaves the house to live with grandparents
Naoto takes care of many household duties
Masaki works and takes care of their mother
Yuuta drops out of school and becomes a hikikomori
Naoto finds out that Masaki is sleeping with their mother, Masaki tells Naoto to keep it a secret
For a while peace continues
Sayaka finds out, is disgusted, says that it would be better if their mum just died

Now the Shinomiya family is a family of 3 boys
AND VOLUME ONE ISN'T EVEN OVER YET DON'T YOU LOVE THE DRAMA!!
I love this series so much I think at this point all the friends I see have heard about it because I just want to tell them about it lol. I think it's good Japanese practice, because while the story is very, dramatic, it's everyday Japanese.
Reading novels is a totally different experience to reading manga! With manga, I just need to follow the dialogue which I can usually do but with novels it's entire sentences! I have to understand the sentence and picture what the character is doing in my head myself... I'm doing my best!!

Also I'm sorry I'm totally not doing Shiro justice he does not speak like a high school girl from the 2010s, you know, like, kinda, like, this. He doesn't. But I don't know how to speak like a 60 year old man.

And like, especially at the “SATOMI-KUN HUGGED KYOJI HERE” there was ALWAYS people taking photos. Everyone was so polite, like, oh you go, you go, stand here it lines up good here… Felt like being surrounded by friends! Nakama!
There was this family recreating the hug hehe and I lent them the card to take photos, and also I started randomly talking to this girl and we were still talking an hour later and we now have tentative plans to go Karaoke… 🥹
Ahhhh I’m just really grateful to sensei and also the companies who were behind the collab and the shops and the restaurants and Kamata, like thank you everyone for coming together to make it so fun for fans and be so welcoming to fans 💕💕

I went to the Utsukushii Kare / My Beautiful Man event in Tokyo Tower!
I love, love, love Tokyo Tower, and Utsukushii Kare, so I had to go!
Currently they're running three events at Red Tokyo Tower, so there are variety of standees and displays. For Utsukushii Kare, there are 5 cardboard standees, 1 large poster board (pictured), a display in the entrance (pictured) and a display across the large TVs.
I bought the collab ticket, because I wanted the merch for that (clear file and clear card), and so I had to solve the puzzle game as well. Having done the Gegege one last time, I had a better idea of the "trick" to solving the puzzles this time and didn't have to rely on the hints so much. (Also I think my Japanese has improved.) But I was still relying on the hints, because I was worried I would run out of time.
The food was pretty good all things considered, and the presentation is beautiful. However it was quite dark there, hardly ideal to take photos. For a 90 minute ticket, it's ok if there's no wait on the food, you have time to do it all, but it was cutting it fine at the end there... Between ordering the food, waiting for the food, eating the food, doing the puzzle, buying the goods, taking photos of everything... 90 minutes feels too short!
If I have one thing to seriously nitpick... The coasters and the purchase bonus are completely random! It doesn't matter if you pick them one after another, you might end up with dupes! Despite receiving four purchase bonus... they're all Hira... 😭 I wish more of the merchandise had featured Tokyo Tower, so I could just buy that instead of relying on luck...

Disclaimer: I speak Japanese conversationally, standard Japanese. My Kansai-ben is terrible, and it has been a constant issue for me when reading Karaoke Iko / Famiresu Iko and the doujinshi because especially when they speak casually I'm not sure what they mean.
