I love how slowly Wintrow is sailing further and further away from his ideals. Or at least the way he pursues said ideals.
He is starting to let himself be more comfortable with his companions even if it means not preaching sermons at any given moment or not exactly following all of his monastery's ways.
One time he was questioning himself on this, he said something like: Sa doesn't cause separation. Or what separates is not of Sa.
All in all I agree with his current course. You don't have to isolate yourself from everyone to remain on your path. And I love how he IS experiencing moral dilemmas but doesn't dwell on them or let them effect his attitude towards his companions. I just wonder if this is his way of descent into... Kennit-Pirate-Captain ideals. Although that would be a very fun read and I will enjoy every minute of it.
It also shows that it is very easy to be a "man of God" when you are not surrounded by anyone or anything that tempts you to be otherwise.
This book is written so well and beautifully.
After watching The Master and Margarita I realised that I, too, need a gorgeous girlfriend or the literal Devil from the Bible to motivate me to write something.

keffria vestrit kill your husband and you will be reincarnated as a lotus flower
Thank GODS Keffria finally realised what an empty-headed shallow waste of skin KyLE is.
I was starting to hate her as much as I was hating on Kyle.
I really want her to put this inconsiderate misogynistic amoral oustider in his damn place the next time he has the audacity to even think he's got the brain capacity to understand what it means to be a damn Trader.

Mother! Mother, I have come home!
– Paragon
I just read the part where Paragon's past is explained. How when he had lost his captain and his son and thus quickened, the first words he says when he reached land is the ones above.
And how the Mother first fainted and never ever went to visit him or say a word to him.
How the Paragon has been sobbing and calling for days.
How terrible of a scene it has been for a "fierce, bearded warrior with muscled arms and hairy chest" to "sobb like a frightened child and beg for his mother".
How no ship and no one could console him.
It got me thinking.
It is interesting that while liveships might not be children, they all need someone to hold their hands in their first moments.
Eventhough Vivacia has told Althea, "I am not your child", she had wanted Althea the first night she was quickened and was distressed she wasn't there. There was Wintrow and Vivacia bonded with him happily.
It reminded me of ducklings' imprinting instinct. Shortly after being hatched, ducklings will decide who their parent is -It is usually the first moving animal they see, whether a duck or human- and take on their characteristics.
But it is noteworthy to me that the first thing that Paragon calls this woman is "Mother".
I think perhaps the reason is that liveships are conscious even before their quickening. They can feel and understand their owner's connection to them and their position in the "family" dynamic.
Althea always talked to the unquickened Vivacia as one would to a close friend or sister. And after her quieckening, the ship never ever called her "mother". She did the exact opposite and told her straight that she wan't her child.
While Vivacia, being treated as a friend, was distressed about Althea's absence in her first night, she got over it and bonded with another family member.
But the Paragon...
It isn't as easy for a child to forget and get over his mother's disdain and disregard.
Perhaps it was little Kerr.
With a strict and ill tempered father, out in the vast sea, a boy would cherish all the company he could find. Perhaps he went on and on about his lovely mother and how he loved her and how she love him and how they loved their darling ship, that the liveship slowly became to think of this woman as his own mother.
After losing his brother and father, he finally made it home and...

beloved. i called him beloved.
Lord Golden is sorta the Oscar Wilde of the Six Duchies when you think about it
About 100 pages into Ship of Magic and...
Is Kennit neurodivergent?
Anyways he's my fave character so far.
"The Master and Margarita", or "what's a girl gotta do to be able to re-read her favourite jesus fanfiction".
You think *you* are having trouble tracking down that one deleted fic you really loved? Well, have you tried helping Satan host a party in exchange for a miracle? 🤔
Misogynist fandomites: this female character is a rare example of women being depicted as complex, interesting, and even unlikable. Obviously, women cannot be those things as that's too much like being a person! Which is why I've decided that she just Feels Trans to me :) no don't point out that I do this with every single female character I encounter that slightly challenges stereotypically shallow and feminine depictions of women. I'm actually doing something Extremely Valid and Progressive by saying that she's too interesting to just be some dumb bitch, I mean to just be a woman. She's obviously More. She's obviously Extra. And the only way she can be that is to not be female.

no. i don’t care if female restrooms are safe spaces for trans women. it’s not women’s job to protect men from men. maybe men should start teaching each other to stop assaulting people.
Trans identified men should work more to make the men's room safe, instead of making the women's room unsafe
I think "my morals are not decided by popular vote" needs to become some kind of radical feminist slogan
