As an older queer, allow me to say: the walls of the closet are load-bearing. It is our job as a community to stand in front of that door and tell everyone who wants to peek inside to fuck off.
There are so many reasons a person may choose not to come out and there is no reason a person would owe the public or a stranger that information. Certainly it's not owed simply because someone is famous.
We have fought for decades to make it safer for people to be open and authentic about themselves, but we are not yet there. And even if we were, the closet would still be something we need to maintain for those who are not ready to reveal that part of themselves.
May we never become so obsessed with representation that we forget the sanctity of privacy.
Happy Pride.
Batty.About.Books' Queer Book Recs for UnCover's Pride Month Challenge đ
Good afternoon, book lovers and bookish bats! I'm so incredibly excited to share this with you today, the first day of Pride Month! As someone who constantly creates book lists (and loves a visual), Uncover is my go-to bookish app. This year, they're hosting their first Pride Month reading challenge! The categories include (drum roll please!): đ
Queer Non-Fiction Books â¤ď¸ Bisexual or Pansexual MCs 𧥠Queer Coming of Age Books đ Gay / Achillian Books đ Queer Horror đ Trans or Nonbinary MCs đ Lesbian / Sapphic Books đ Queer Awakening Books 𧥠Asexual or Aromantic MCs â¤ď¸
Want to challenge yourself to read more queer books this Pride Month? Download Uncover from your app store (it's available on Android and Apple devices), create your account, and start reading! Any queer books you read that fit the above categories will automatically appear on Pride Month board. Challenge yourself to read a book within every category! đ
While you're at it, make sure to find me @battyaboutbooks. You can find all my book guides on Uncover (where they're updated every month!). đŚ
I've also included two bonus categories for my book lovers and bookish bats who strive to read queer all year! These include: Queer Graphic Novels đ Coming Out Stories đ
What are you planning to read for Pride Month this year? â Are you joining any reading challenges (and will you join me in completing the Uncover app Pride Month Challenge)? â
PS: I need your help! More queer content creators are getting suppressed (many of my monthly queer guides don't appear in the tags). PLEASE help by sharing this post! I would really appreciate it! Happy Pride Month, my loves. đ
the thing about nonfiction is you come out of it with several more books to put on your to be read list and it's only gonna branch out from there so really the only solution is to read every book in human history starting at the beginning
Does anyone else get a little excited when you're reading and come across a word you don't know and you get to look it up and add it to your vocabulary pile? weehoo! a little treat for me, a little exotic snack

when i was a kid there was this guy in my neighborhood named Jerry. he was 100 years old for my entire childhood. his house was up on a hill and he had a big porch he sat on all day from sun up to sundown. his front door was always open if it wasn't too cold out and there was a big old fridge/freezer right inside where he kept orange crush in glass bottles and freeze-pops.
kids were allowed to walk right into his house and get treats from the fridge but the rule is we had to sit on the porch while we ate the popsicles or drank the pop and this is how he got us to listen to him talk about random stuff all day.
if parents needed to find us bc we failed to come home when we were supposed to they called him and he could send other kids out looking for us. it'd be like in the creek some other 8 year old would tell you "hey your mom called Jerry. youre supposed to be home."
if you were home sick from school and your parents worked he'd watch you for free & everyone looked out for him. i spent a lot of days napping on his couch when i was little.
idk i know i couldn't be a full-time parent so that's my ideal role in a community one day. old guy babysitter with a porch.
these are getting weird
My flight is delayed but theyâve got the Chicago/toronto game on so you win some you lose some I guess

ok so I looked it up, and it turns out they made a track out of PVC pipes, down a hill. The owner didn't realise PVC expanded in the heat, so on a turn the track just fell apart and the dude inside went over a fucking free way and into a swamp.
The funniest part is that the inspector was watching the whole time, and once the ball stopped he left without saying anything. Park management just shut it down then and there.
"The ball cleared a small hill, briefly going airborne, then zipped right across Route 94, the two-lane road splitting the park. Cars honked and slammed on their brakes. If there had been opposing traffic, Frank would have become part of a real-life game of Pong, volleying from one bumper to another.
Still in pursuit, we followed the ball toward a small lake in Motor World that had been earmarked for a fleet of tiny bumper boats for children. The area wasnât open yet, but the empty boats were being tested and floated on the surface. The ball soared over the grass and smashed into several of them, scattering the others with rippling waves from the impact, which launched some of the boats several feet in the air.
Charlie and Ken waded into the water looking for the hatch. After some difficulty, they got it open. Charlie pulled Frank out by grabbing him under his armpits like a baby. Frank crawled up the bank, coughing and sputtering. He splayed across the grass as we all stared at the ball, which bobbed in the water like it was attached to a fishing lure.
We did not ask for the inspectorâs report, nor did we ever hear of one being filed. Ken Bailey returned to Canada. The snow-makers cleared away the PVC. Told to dispose of the Bailey Ball, they rolled it into the woods, where it remained for many years."
I don't know that this beats the teeth story, but it's pretty great.
