I color-picked her palette from the original trilogy sprites with slight tweaks, such as her skin color, hair and eyes.

Obviously, most sprites are inspired directly by her original trilogy sprites:

I wanted to connect Maya and Mia through the sprites. While they're sisters, they do have different attitudes as people. So, the desk slam is definitely Mia's:

You will notice here that Mia, as well as Phoenix, raises her head while objecting:

But my Maya doesn't.

Maya has a tendency to drop her head while riled up for whatever reason (being upset, angry, determined). Like so:

And someone else we know tends to do that.
