Letâs talk about Imposter Syndrome for a minute.
That feeling of âIâm not good enough, I donât deserve this, I shouldnât be doing this thing that I love and have worked hard for.â We donât believe our loved ones when they tell us that actually, yes, we do deserve this, we are good at it. We donât believe strangers when they tell us âWow, you did this? This is really good.â We donât believe our own brains when we look in awe at a thing we created and see that it is beautiful and worthy and wonder how itâs possible that such a lovely thing exists, and that it exists because we made it.
But we do believe the people who tell us we arenât any good, donât deserve this, shouldnât be doing this. Why do we do that? Why do we listen to the people who donât matter, and not to those who do?
I want to tell a story. Itâll be long, itâll be self-indulgent, but it has a purpose, so stick with me.

One unfortunate side effect of the âyour first draft is shitâ rhetoric (which is mostly meant to encourage the understanding that you will need to edit and that having problems in your first draft doesnât mean you canât write) is that people tend to feel like they shouldnât like their writing. They should only be critical of it, only see the flaws of it, and so be unhappy with their writing.
Being critical is good, but keep in mind that youâre not only allowed but encouraged to like what youâve written. You should like it because that means itâs something people enjoy reading (because you are a person), but also because you will write better if you enjoy what youâre writing. Reread your old writing and smile at the lines that you love. Enjoy your fun scenes, laugh at your own jokes, cry at the tragedies youâve written particularly poignantly. Itâll make you feel better. I promise.
Iâve got some absolute TRASH that will never see the light of day or be read by another human being that still makes my heart sing when I read back over it because of a particular line, or because I nailed the dialogue even if the plotting didnât work, or because itâs just really hot smut even if I didnât manage to get the charactersâ voices right.
And thereâs something really important and wonderful about being able to be proud of parts of what you wrote even if you know itâs not ultimately âgoodâ.
(Also, if youâre writing a makeout/hookup/sex scene and youâre turned on while youâre writing it, donât feel weird, that means YOU ARE DOING IT RIGHT GREAT JOB THUMBS UP!) (I used to get really embarrassed when Iâd get all hot and bothered at my own writing. But then I realized if *I* think itâs hot, other people probably will too. Which is kind of the point when you write romance/erotica.)
Oh hi, I have a new fandom, here is some fic for it.
Iâve recently started playing a mobile game called âThe Arcanaâ (@thearcanagame), and the creators of the game do a bi-weekly prompt to inspire fan works. This weekâs prompt was to create something showing the characters in a modern setting, vs the gameâs actual fantasy-Italian-renaissance setting.Â
Iâd started out writing something that actually has anything to do with the gameâs story, but that one I want to spend more time with before I publish, so in the meantime here is a scene of pure fluff and angst that I didnât intend to write and that doesnât fit into the other story at all but sometimes writing doesnât work out how you plan but you get good stuff out of it anyway. Thereâs phones and TVs, ergo it is modern, ergo it technically meets the prompt criteria.
Wow, it is fun to try writing something new. Iâve been working on the same two WIPs for so long Iâd forgotten how much fun it can be to write characters I havenât spent years sharing headspace with. Julian? Is really fun to write. Probably youâll be seeing more of this game from me.
Chapter 2, which is just outright smut, can be found over at AO3.
Lay Your Hands On Me
U up ?
The text tone is impossibly loud, and I had just fallen asleep.
Cinna
Cinna
Cinnna
Cinana
Gods. I fumble for the phone, cursing half-an-hour-ago me for forgetting to put it back into do-not-disturb mode. Iâd been texting with Asra while I got ready for bed and didnât want to miss his replies, so Iâd turned off do-not-disturb and then forgotten to put it back on. Iâd also apparently forgotten to put it back on silent.
Julian, Iâm sleeping.
Forgotten, or âforgottenâ? Hard to say. My most impossible and ridiculous friend usually ends up drunk-texting me to hang out on Saturday nights, which I do usually enjoy, but I also enjoy sleep. A lot.
Np ur not ur texting me
Impossible.
Im drunk and bord come hang outtttt or i might watch a horror movie later and itll come out of the tv and eat me
or i might get run over on my wayhom e
if I get eaten by a tv mostner or a car bcuz u didnt want to hang out my blood is on your handss
And ridiculous.
Ilya, itâs after midnight.
Also, stop turning autocorrect off, youâre too drunk to spell
I click the light on and get out of bed. I know how this is going to go. Same way it always goes. Heâll wheedle at me until I agree to meet him for a drink and drive his wasted ass home, which I will do because I canât say no to Julian even when I am tired and already in bed. Even when I am tired and already in bed and mostly asleep.
im not to drink to spell, u r
Oh shit I spellled it wrong didnt i
I twist my hair into a topknot, laughing softly and wondering what tonightâs trigger wasâwas it actually boredom, or something more? Julian doesnât need a reason to drink other than âitâs nighttimeâŚishâ, but usually he doesnât get completely blitzed unless something is bothering him.
I bet itâs Asra. It usually is.
I canât find a hair tie, and let my hair fall again as I text back. Yeah, you did. Where are you? The Raven?
yes
Give me 10 minutes.
I just had a hair tie before bed. Where did I put it? I look around the dresser, the nightstand, my wrist. Usually itâs on my wrist, but not this time. Iâm frustrated, although if I were to be completely honest with myself (which Iâm not in the mood to be right now), the hair tie isnât whatâs upsetting me.
I twist my hair up again and stick a pencil through the bun to hold it. I shove my feet into flip-flops and grab a hoodieâitâs that or put on a bra, and I am not doing that.
The air is warm as I trace a locking rune on my apartment door and walk to my car, digging in my bag for my car key. I push up the sleeves of my hoodie, resenting Julian slightly for asking me to leave the comfort of my air conditioning. By the time the AC in my shitty old car finally kicks into gear, Iâll be at the bar. I put the windows down to get a breeze going and drive to the Rowdy Raven.
âDamn, Cinna, you didnât even try tonight,â Muriel says as I shuffle up. The hulking bouncer and I have an understanding: if I show up alone and without eyeliner, I donât have to pay the cover charge because Iâm not there to party and will be leaving shortly.
âShut up,â I tell him, flipping him a half-assed bird.
Muriel chuckles. âYou staying for a drink?â
âI was asleep when he texted me. Iâm hoping to be asleep again within the next half hour.â
âYou should really put your phone on silent when you go to bed.â I glare at him, and he laughs again as he moves aside to let me through the door. âLet me know if you need a hand getting him upright.â
âHe recognized a spelling mistake for a change, so I think he may not be that far gone, but thanks.â I enter the Rowdy Raven, scanning the crowd for unruly auburn curls towering above half the clientele.
Heâs not at the bar. I look around the room, still not seeing him anywhere, and then suddenly there are arms around me from behind and I spin to shove their owner off, until I see the tattoo on the left hand. âYou came!â He sounds utterly delighted.
âI always do, Ilya.â
He nods gravely. âYou are correct. You always do.â
I take him by the hand and start for the door. âLetâs get you home.â
âWhat? No! Stay! Drink! Drinks on me!â he shouts, and a few other patrons turn to look at him. âUm, drinks for herââ he points at me ââon me.â
âI donât want a drink, Ilya, I want to take you home to bed.â His left eye widens. The right one probably does too, but itâs obscured by his hair, and also his ridiculous eyepatch, which he insists on wearing because he thinks it makes him look âdashing and mysteriousâ, despite me repeatedly telling him that it actually just makes him look scary and a bit unhinged, especially given that everyone knows he doesnât actually need it anymore. I laugh at his expression. âTo sleep,â I clarify. âI was asleep. I want to go back to sleep.â
âI woke you up?â
âYou did. You knew that. I told you when you texted.â
âI forgot.â He peers at his phone. âOh. So you did. Wow, my spelling is bad tonight.â
âYes, it is.â I tug his hand again. âCome on.â
He sighs theatrically. âAll right, all right. But youâre having a drink with me at home.â
âJulian, Iâm not even getting out of my car. Iâm just gonna open the door and let you roll out as we drive past.â
He places a hand over his heart. âYou wound me, Cinna.â I push open the door and drag him out into the warm night. âShe wounds me, Muriel!â he hollers as we pass the bouncer.
âYou probably had it coming,â Muriel says.
âYouâre probably right,â Julian agrees good-naturedly, âI probably did. Good night, Muriel,â he calls over his shoulder as I pull him toward my car. âCinna and I are going to go drink wine and watch horror movies and go to bed together.â
âNone of those things is true,â I say loudly.
âWe are going to drink and watch and sleep together.â
âStill not true.â I pour him into the passenger seat, folding his long legs in before I close the door. His head lolls on the headrest, and he looks over at me as I climb into the driverâs seat. âItâs hot.â
âIt is.â
âYouâre wearing a sweatshirt.â
âYou woke me up. I didnât feel like putting on a bra just to come pick you up.â
âYouâre not wearing a bra?â He leers at me, and I ignore him, reaching past him to tug his seatbelt across his chest. Julian leans forward, nuzzling my neck as he pulls the pencil out of my hair and lets it fall around my shoulders. I feel a jolt of electricity zing through my core, and I force myself to ignore it.
âYou smell very nice, Cinna.â He suddenly doesnât sound drunk at all, and I glance up at him. His face is completely serious, but his eye is still a bit unfocused.
âThanks, Julian.â I click his seatbelt into place and lean back to fasten my own. He stays leaning forward for a moment before realizing Iâve moved and settling himself back into his seat, the moment apparently forgotten.
Neither of us says anything for a few minutes as I pull out of the parking lot and turn onto the main road to his apartment. Iâm the first to break the silence. âSo what happened tonight?â
âHmm?â Heâs looking out the open window, the breeze blowing his hair back off his face. The ridiculous eyepatch sits over his eye.
âWhy so drinky? Just felt like partying, or is something going on?â
He turns to look at me and sighs. âJustâŚeverything.â
I reach over and take his hand. âI get it.â Julian isnât the only one Asraâs had this effect on. If anyone understands the torment that is loving that wonderful, mercurial man, itâs me.
âI know you do.â He lifts our joined hands, pressing a kiss to my fingers, then drops them back to his lap. âI miss him.â
âI know.â
âI hate him a little bit, too.â
âI know.â
âSo do you.â
âI did, yeah.â
âBut you also love him.â
âYeah.â
âMe too.â
âI know.â
We are silent for the rest of the drive. When we reach his apartment, I pull into a parking space and he looks at me, eyebrows raised. âI thought I had to roll out.â
âI changed my mind. You got me feeling all maudlin and now I donât feel like sleeping anymore.â
âCome in for a drink?â
âYes, but youâre drinking coffee.â
He nods. âCoffee is a good idea.â
I follow him into his apartment. Itâs messyâmedical textbooks and legal pads and pencils all over the coffee table; scrubs bunched in the bedroom doorway; stained coffee mugs and wine glasses sitting by the sink. A half-empty bottle of whiskey sits on the counter next to half a dozen empty wine bottles. âGods, Ilya, tell me you didnât drink all these by yourself since the last time I was here. Iâm not even the one in medical school, and I know this isnât good for you.â
I look over to see that heâs slumped on the sofa, head in his hands. I know better than to engage him when heâs like this, so I just chatter inanely as I start a pot of strong coffee, then go about washing the dishes littering the kitchen. I tell him about a reading I did for someone the other day, how she didnât appreciate what the cards told her and threatened to sue me. I tell him about how I almost burned down the shop the other day because I was bored doing paperwork and kept idly snapping my fingers to light a flame, only I wasnât paying enough attention and caught my notepad on fire. I tell him Iâm going to strip naked for him and dance on the coffee table wearing a lampshade on my head.
Heâs not paying any attention, as I suspected.
âWhat, not into a naked lampshade table dance? Come on, Ilya, Iâll put on a silver wig for it if itâll make you smile.â I wrap his hands around the steaming mug of black coffee Iâve poured for him, and he snaps back to attention.
âNaked silver what now?â
âThere you are. Hi. Iâve just been cleaning your kitchen and talking to you for the last fifteen minutes while you were off in la la land.â
âI heard something about naked.â
âYes, I offered you a naked table dance. Even said Iâd put on a silver wig if it would make you happy. Iâm rescinding the offer, though, since youâve been ignoring me even though I got out of bed and drove across town to bring you home and take care of your drunk ass.â
âI donât want to see you in a silver wig.â He shudders. âI donât want to see silver hair ever again.â
I soften. âJulian.â
âI need a rebound.â
âYouâve had plenty of rebounds.â
âYouâre right. I have. Rebounds donât work.â
âNo, they usually donât.â He mumbles something I canât quite hear, that sounds like not you. âWhat?â
He doesnât repeat himself, but peers into my mug. âThatâs not coffee.â
âNope.â
âWhy do you get whiskey and I only get coffee?â
âBecause youâre drunk already.â
âNo fair.â He pouts, and I laugh, leaning back on the sofa so my arm presses against his. âHow do you get over someone you know you canât have?â
I turn towards him, kicking off my sandals and curling my feet up under me. The sofa is rough against my cheek. âIâm not sure. I wish I had an answer for you, Julian, but I donât.â And itâs true. I have no idea how you get over someone who doesnât love you back. But itâs even harder when they do love you, but not like you need them to. Asra loves Julian in the way that Asra loves anything; completely, but only when Julian is right in front of him and Asra is paying enough attention to notice him. Julian loves Asra the way Julian does everything; utterly and completely, his own well-being be damned.
I know what it feels like to love someone with your entire being, and I also know better than to let myself think about it. That is a fantasy best saved for late at night, alone, when Iâm not trying to be the voice of reason. Even as I sit here watching Julian sip his coffee, I tamp these thoughts down. I donât need to be thinking about my most secret wishes while Iâm supposed to be helping him. I brush the hair off his face, and he looks so sad that my heart squeezes.
âEvery time I try to be with someone else it just reminds me that theyâre not who I want,â he says. âAnd then I get mad at them. And then they get mad at me. And then I get mad at me. And then I promise myself Iâm not going to think about the person I canât have, and it only makes me think about it more than ever, and then I hate myself for not keeping my promises.â I place my hand on his arm, sending a wave of calming magic through my fingertips. He looks down at the blue light thrumming over his bicep. âYouâre trying to make me feel better.â
I laugh again. âOf course Iâm trying to make you feel better, Ilya. Thatâs the whole reason Iâm here.â
âWe should watch a horror movie.â
âWe absolutely should not.â
âYou never want to watch horror movies with me.â
âI never want to watch horror movies, period.â
âPlease, Cinna? Iâll pick a not-scary one. LikeâŚThe Shining.â
âYour idea of a not-scary horror movie is The Shining?â
âI mean, no one crawls out of the TV in it. I donât think.â His eyebrows draw together. âItâs been a while.â
Iâve actually seen The Shining before, and I didnât really find it that scary, all things considered, so I agree. He starts the movie, and I refill his coffee and pour some into my own mug, too, because otherwise I know I will fall asleep before the movieâs over. Then I go into his bedroom and retrieve his rumpled comforter from the bed.
âYouâre cold?â he asks.
âNot really. But horror movies need blankets to hide under.â I drape the comforter over us both and lean against him again. He smells like wine and coffee, and soon I can feel him start to relax next to me.
âAre you scared?â he says to me after a few minutes.
âOf the movie? No. Iâm good.â
âAre you scared of other things?â
âSometimes. Not right now, though.â
He puts his arm around me, and I snuggle into him. These are my favorite moments with Julian, when heâs content and not putting on a dramatic front to cover his self-loathing. I enjoy his theatrics when heâs happy and just being silly, but more and more lately heâs been using them to hide his pain, and I donât enjoy them then. I stroke his arm where it wraps around my shoulder, threads of blue magic winding around his wrist, and he sighs, relaxing further. I put my other hand on his chest, feeling his heartbeat, and weave in a few strands of sobering yellow, so he can sleep tonightâactually sleep, not just pass outâand wonât have a hangover tomorrow.
âI used to hate you,â Julian says suddenly. Iâm accustomed to both candor and non-sequiturs from him, so this statement shouldnât surprise me, but it does. Not the statement itself; the fact that heâs admitting it. We donât often talk about when I was with Asra, but apparently itâs on his mind tonight. âAt first I thought it was because you were with him. But then I realized I didnât hate you because you were with him, I didnât hate you at all, but I did hate him a little bit because he was with you.â
âThatâs the same thing.â
âItâs not.â He takes a deep breath. âThe only thing worse than seeing the person you love with someone new is realizing that you want that new person more than you want the old person and you canât have either of them.â I sit up and stare at him, sure Iâm misunderstanding. He rakes a hand through his hair. âNever mind.â
âJulian.â I reach for his hand but he pulls it away.
âI donât want to talk about it.â
âYou canât do that.â
âI shouldnât have said anything.â
âJulian.â He stares resolutely at the screen. âIlya.â He doesnât even blink. âJules.â
That gets his attention. âPlease donât call me that.â Iâve hurt him.
âIâm sorry. That was unfair of me. But you canât say something like that and then just pretend it didnât happen.â
âCinna, I really just want to watch the movie.â
I lean toward him. âNo, you donât, or you wouldnât have said that.â Heâs used to me acquiescing, letting him pout or sulk or pretend away whatever is bothering him. But I canât do that this time. I stay there, inches from his face, until he gives up and turns to look at me.
âCanât we justââ he starts, and without thinking about it, I press my lips to his, cutting him off.
He freezes, and I back off. âIâm sorry, I thoughtâshould I not have done that?â He answers me by returning the kiss, his mouth claiming mine with a passion he usually reserves for self-deprecating jokes and drunken declarations that heâs unlovable. Itâs everything Iâve dreamed about, everything Iâve imagined lying awake in the dark of night with nothing but my thoughts and my fingers for company. Julian never does anything halfway; Iâd known that heâd kiss like it was the last thing heâd ever do on this earth, but Iâd had no idea how completely it would undo me. I clutch at him, desperate, suddenly certain that I have never needed or wanted anything as much as I need and want Julian Devorak in this moment.
He breaks the kiss and pulls back, just enough for me to see the moonlight from the window forming a halo around him, and I reach up and touch his face. He swallows. âThis isâŚâ
âDonât go.â I slide my hand behind his neck, the pads of my fingers pressing just enough for him to understand the question Iâm not voicing, but not so hard that he canât choose his answer. He protests even as he moves in toward me.
âWe shouldnâtâŚâ His mouth is so close that I can feel his lips move against mine as he speaks.
âWhy not?â I whisper, stroking my thumb over his cheekbone, along the edge of that stupid eyepatch.
âI donât know.â
I donât say anything, just tilt my head towards him again. I expect him to draw away, but he surprises me. I push off the sofa to meet his kiss, and his hand is in my hair, the other coming around my waist to pull me onto his lap, my thighs straddling his.
My fingers find the string of his eyepatch and tug it off, tossing it behind me. He sits back, the scar on his eyelid a thin silver line marring his perfect faceâand making it even more perfect in its imperfection. âHey,â he says, indignant, and I grin.
âI hate that thing. It makes you look ridiculous.â
âIt makes me look sexy and mysterious.â
âYou donât need the eyepatch, Ilya.â I trace the scar with a finger, my magic making it glow faintly blue. âYou really donât.â
He presses his forehead against mine. âWhat are we doing, Cinna?â
I kiss him again, softly. âKissing.â
âYou know what I mean.â
I pull back. âShould I leave?â
âOf course not. I justâŚIâm drunk.â
âNo, youâre not. I sobered you up back at the beginning of the movie.â
He tries again. âYouâre drunk?â
I shake my head slowly. âA splash of whiskey is not enough to have me drunk, and you know it.â
âWe bothââ
ââwant this,â I finish, cutting him off and pressing my lips to his jaw. âAt least, I do. And by your own admission, I think you do, too.â
He makes a strangled sound and tilts his head to allow me better access to nip at the soft skin below his ear. âIâgods, Cinna, you know I do.â
âIf youâre not sure, Iâll go.â Please be sure, I think, but even as I think it Iâm leaning back, sliding off his lap, shoving the fallen comforter aside to find my shoes, sure heâll send me home.
His face is anguished, his voice hoarse, and he tugs at my sleeve, trying to pull me closer and keep me at armâs length at the same time. âYou deserve better than me. You deserve everything, you deserve the world, you deserve someone worthy of you.â
âJulian.â I run a hand down his arm, desperate to be touching him but knowing it needs to be his decision. âI donât want the world. I want you. I just didnât think you saw me as anything more than the only person who understood how you feel about Asra. All this time, I thought it was him you were pining over. I had no idea you felt the same way about me that I feel about you.â
He digs the heels of his hands into his eyes. âIt never occurred to me youâd ever see me as anything more than âAsraâs exâ.â
I laugh softly. âJulian, Iâve never once thought of you as âAsraâs exâ.â
ââThat one-eyed guy whoâs obsessed with my boyfriendâ?â
âHa. Not quite.â
ââThat tallâââ
Still laughing, I put a finger on his lips to shut him up. âYou were âAsraâs gorgeous and funny friend, Julianâ, at first. Then you were âour amazing friend, Julianâ.â I shrug. âThen you were just âmy Julianâ.â
âCinna.â He cups my face in his hand, and I turn and press my lips to his palm. âI have a confession.â I raise an eyebrow. âMost of those times that you thought I was getting drunk because I missed Asra? I was getting drunk because I wanted to be with you, and you were with him.â
âI havenât been with him for a year, and you still spend most weekends drunk and disorderly. Iâve come to think of it as a character trait.â
âThose were the weekends I was trying to get up the nerve to tell you I worship you, but I never could do it.â
I giggle. âActually, you tell me that on a fairly regular basis when youâve been drinking. I just always assumed you were being dramatic and fishing for me to compliment you back.â
He grimaces. âIâm sure I was. But I was also serious. I adore you, Cinna. Iâve wanted to ravish you from the moment I laid eyes on you, but the more time I spend with you the more I realize Iâve never cared for anyone else like this.â He pauses. âI still want to ravish you, I want to be extremely clear on that. But also, I love you.â
âI love you too, Ilya.â
He smiles, and itâs the most beautiful thing Iâve ever seen. âIâm going to kiss you now.â
âI was promised ravishing.â
âOne thing at a time, dear Cinna. One thing at a time.â He leans in and captures my mouth and he tastes like coffee and wine and Julian, and I sigh and fall into him.

Adrian from Six to Start here! As you may know, weâre working with a new supplier for this race - Scalable Press. Theyâre a print-on-demand company that ships worldwide, and they have a much larger stock of garments - thatâs how weâre able to offer far more fits and sizes and personalised options than in the past.Â
Most people have been happy with their garments, but we know that there have been some problems, specifically with the hoodies and tanktops. Weâve already updated the designs on those (made them more colourful and brighter) and tweaked the garments so theyâll look better.Â
However, weâre really keen to make sure youâre happy with whatever you buy, so if you arenât happy, please do email [email protected] with photos and we will try and make it right.
Seriously, email them. ZR/StS have THE NICEST CUSTOMER SUPPORT PEOPLE IN THE WORLD. I promise you they will be so kind and understanding you will walk away a better person for having interacted with them. (High praise? Yes. But I have never before found a company with consistently good customer support who will crack jokes about Doctor Who with you instead of just sending you a form response telling you to try doing something you've already told them you've tried.)
and it has its right paw up! the correct paw for this.
and from the markings on its ears, it looks like it might be a calico cat. which is the luckiest kind!
Yâknow I reblogged this a bit ago and was saved from financial probation and getting kicked out of school because of it, just mere months from graduation. Got a call from the financial aid advisor telling me that they made a mistake with filing my account (or some other sort of clerical error) and said that, basically, they owe me money. Welp.
No one tagged me in this but I wanted to do it anyway. 1. Which book has been on your shelves the longest? Oh god, so many, but I've been in the process of reading TheStand for almost a year now. My husband also keeps trying to get me to read The Name of the Wind but I keep having other stuff get in line before it. 2. What is your current read, your last read and the book youâll read next? Current : Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Claire Last Read : Lady Midnight by Cassandra Claire Next : Not entirely sure but likely Seven Stones to Stand or Fall by Diana Gabaldon 3. Which book does everyone like and you hated? Game of Thrones. I've tried twice now to read Amit and haven't managed to get past the halfway point. 4. Which book do you keep telling yourself youâll read, but you probably wonât? I don't even know. Half the books on my to-read shelf fall into this category. 5. Which book are you saving for âretirement?â I'm not sure I have any, TBH. I don't tend to save things for a definitive "later", I save them for "later, when I'm in the mood for that book". 6. Last page: read it first or wait till the end? No no no, why would you do that? I like spoilers as much as the next girl, but NO. 7. Acknowledgments: waste of ink and paper or interesting aside? I usually skim through them and if they're funny or seem interesting I read them. If it's just a list of names with little to know context I don't bother. 8. Which book character would you switch places with? Anne Shirley, Claire Beauchamp Fraser, some minor character from Harry Potter who gets to go to Hogwarts but doesn't end up being killed gruesomely by Voldemort or a Death Eater. 9. Do you have a book that reminds you of something specific in your life (a person, a place, a time)? A Wrinkle In Time, as good as it is, will always be slightly tainted by the fact that I got in trouble for reading it during "Diversions" (essentially recess) for my 4th grade GT class (because "we have no way of knowing that you aren't doing homework for your regular class and that's not allowed so you can't read while you're here") The Phantom Tollbooth and Alice in Wonderland and A Midsummer Night's Dream and MacBeth also all remind me of that stupid class because they were all assigned reading for it. AWiT is the only one with a negative association though because it was pretty much the first time in my life I ever got in "trouble" at school, and I still maintain that teacher was just being a bitch since every other kid in the class stood up for me and assured her I was reading it for fun and not for homework. 10. Name a book you acquired in some interesting way. I don't think this has ever happened. 11. Have you ever given away a book for a special reason to a special person? Oh I'm constantly gifting books to people. They rarely enjoy the book as much as I did. 12. Which book has been with you to the most places? Oh man. I don't even know. I don't tend to take re-reads with me places, I bring new books with me. But I guess whatever book has been on my kindle the longest has travelled the most. 13. Any ârequired readingâ you hated in high school that wasnât so bad ten years later? MacBeth, The Great Gatsby (I didn't hate it, I just didn't love it in school). I truly refuse to believe anyone will ever convince me that Bleak House or among Dick are worth reading though đ 14. What is the strangest item youâve ever found in a book? A tampon wrapper. That was weird. 15. Used or brand new? I don't usually have a preference by I do have an arbitrary goal I've set for myself to obtain used copies of all of Stephen King's books for dirt cheap. 16. Stephen King: Literary genius or opiate of the masses? I think my previous answer also answers this! 17. Have you ever seen a movie you liked better than the book? Fifty Shades of Grey 18. Conversely, which book should NEVER have been introduced to the screens? A lot of Stephen King's, namely 11/22/63. 19. Have you ever read a book thatâs made you hungry, cookbooks being excluded from this question? Yes. I frequently will read a scene where characters are eating and start to crave whatever they're having. 20. Who is the person whose book advice youâll always take? Usually if my friend James says I will like a book I will give it a shot, but he fully admits he doesn't always hit a home run with regard to what I will or won't like. 21. Do you dog ear your books? Do you underline/write stuff in your books? Dog ear sometimes, don't usually write in them unless it's notes for a class or something. I tag...uhhhh...I don't know, most of my Tumblr friends are ZR people and I have no idea if they are readers as well as runners so I guess...tag yourself?
We are working on our next episode and Aislinn De'Ath, who voices Veronica McShell, has graciously agree to answer some questions for us! So: what do you, the listener, want to know about Veronica?

Episode 64: Jamesâs Unpopular Opinion Corner (âFifty Shades of Greyâ) Hey, everyone! James watched a movie, and Erin has also seen the movie, so we wanted to talk about the movie!âŚ
Another week, another podcast episode! This time, James watched âFifty Shades of Greyâ and actually kind of liked it. (Fair warning, we donât really touch on the abusive/controlling nature of the relationship in this one because most of that doesnât come into play until the second movie.)
When we came to make Zombies, Run!, I deliberately put a line in the very first mission, when you, Runner Five, are just arriving at Abel Township, the tiny, shivering remnant of humanity left after the zombie apocalypse. I had one of the characters say: âIf you can move above a slow shamble, we can use you.â Why? Because I am so sick and tired of the best and nicest exercise-based treats being reserved for people who are already in peak physical shape, and Iâm sick of the notion that having fun while exercising is something you have to earn; that, until you look a certain way, moving ought to be boring and unpleasant if not outright painful. Your body is there right now. You did not have to earn a thing. It is a gift. You are a hero every time you step out of your front door to do some exercise.
The Fat Girl Behind the Fitness App â Matter â Medium (via jasmined)
I remember the phrase but never thought on it having a story - thank you for sharing this!!Â
(via ijustcantwaittobeme)
I tweeted a bunch of stuff about this article but it should be said here too. Gym class? Shouldn't be about being GOOD at the sports. It should teach kids that moving can be FUN and FEEL GOOD and *greatjob* Naomi Alderman for this article. Maybe if more gym teachers gave credit for kids who try even if they fail, or who try and succeed but maybe don't excel (for example, I never even tried to run the mile because I knew I'd never be as fast as Nate J. and Kathleen V., and I knew I'd pass as long as I eventually crossed the finish line, so why bother putting in effort if the effort wouldn't be recognized?), then maybe kids who aren't natural athletes would feel compelled to TRY some different things instead of doing the bare minimum, and maybe they'd find sports they LIKE and MAYBE ARE EVEN KIND OF GOOD AT! I was 32 years old before I ever ran a mile straight through, and it's because of @zombiesrungame making it FUN and making me feel like I CAN do it and if I just can't sometimes, that's okay, because Sam and Janine and Maxine and Paula and Jody and even Simon and Amelia, in their way, love and value me anyway. This article should be shared far and wide. Everyone should read it. Especially gym teachers. Because I bet a lot of adults would value physical exercise more if there were more people who had encouraged them as kids to just HAVE SOME FUCKING FUN MOVING.
fandom please I implore you all to talk about Dean Thomas more
literally yelling for a red card during a Quidditch match
painting a potter for president banner for his friend HOW CUTE
offering to forge a signature so that same friend could go to the village with the rest of them
actually he paints banners supporting Harry on two separate occasions four years apartÂ
is it weirder that he keeps doing that or that Harry keeps getting himself into situations where he requires banners
good with a quill be still my beating heart the boy is an artist
literally not giving a single fuck that their teacher was a âdangerous half-breedâ because he respected the hell out of him as a person and educator
IF YOU MEAN PROFESSOR LUPIN, HE WAS THE BEST WE EVER -Â
and he grew up as a muggle so he had already been exposed to werewolf folklore and he had every excuse to be afraid or prejudiced and instead decided to judge him on a human level, even without the familiarity the trio etc. had to him
standing up for that same teacher time and time again
including to a ministry official who he just generally gave the sass to anyway
never losing his faith in Harry even when his very best friend in the whole world and approximately 89% of the wizarding community basically thought the bloke was a nutjob
convincing his best mate to join DAÂ
there was a fair bit of an anti-dean sentiment in HBP best to ignore that then
never having any animosity towards his friend for getting together with his ex-girlfriend so soon
completely supporting and defending Harry while on the run because OBVIOUSLY why stop now after seven years of doing literally that at every single opportunity
being completely bemused by but always kind towards Luna
helping to dig the grave on the beach
running out into the final battle without a fucking wandÂ
evidently winning one at some point
everything to do with him and Seamus however you want to view their relationship but frankly I could do a whole other post on that
#I bet Dean went and like fucking punched Death Eaters#and theyâre so used to expecting wands that they were stunned to be punched#BECAUSE WHO IN THE WIZARDLY WORLD DOES ANYTHING BY HAND ANYMORE#So this kid just comes running at them and POW and theyâre just like âHOW DO I DEAL WITH THIS????â#dean thomas is a gift x
Omg I'd never thought of like any of this but it's all SO RIGHT DEAN THOMAS FOR PRESIDENT AND ALSO VICE PRESIDENT BECAUSE WHO ELSE COULD BE AS GOOD A RUNNING MATE AS DEAN THOMAS.
Ghosts are like the one thing that is guaranteed to give me nightmares for decades (seriously, I still have nightmares about "The Sixth" fucking "Sense"), and I WILL NEVER SLEEP AGAIN AFTER SEEING THIS THANKS TUMBLR.

Actual things I've said this week that make me realize what a huge nerd I really am (and I love it)
Husband: What are you doing?
Me: Reading ZR fan fiction.
Husband: Oh, anything good?
Me: Itâs really good. I forgot Iâd written this scene since I havenât gotten to this part in the chronology of the story yet so it was in my ârevisit laterâ folder and man, I really nailed it.
Husband:âŚyouâre reading your own fan fiction?
Me: Yeah, and damn, Iâm a good writer sometimes.
***
Friend: What are you up to?
Me: Iâm formatting my spellbook.
Friend: Iâm sorry, what?
Me: My DM gave me the ability to cast any wizard spell once per day but I get overwhelmed trying to find all the wizard spells in the PHB because they arenât divided up by class or spell type, so I copied them all into a Word document and now Iâm trying to format it so I can print and bind it before our session tomorrow.

Upon recognizing each other from a group that took down an Articuno in PokĂŠmon Go the other day, my server at breakfast and I launched into a long and elaborate discussion and he added me to a few group chats for people who meet up to do raids.
Friend: Wow. That was the nerdiest thing Iâve ever seen happen with my own eyes.
Me: I KNOW WASNâT IT GREAT??
***
Me: I was thinking last night about @sortinghatchats and @zombiesrungame and I think Iâve figured out which Hogwarts houses all the ZR characters are in.
Friend: Oh?
Me: I mean, Sam is clearly a Hufflepuff/Hufflepuff, but as the game goes on he starts to model a Gryffindor secondary some. Janine is Slytherin/Ravenclaw, but she can improvise really well so she may actually be a Slytherin secondary. Or maybe she's just modeling a Slytherin secondary, I don't know, I tend to assume everyone is modeling something but that's probably not accurate. Anyway, my personal Runner Five is a Burned-Hufflepuff-modeling-Slytherin/Gryffindor, sheâs basically Mal from Firefly, which is funny to me because Iâm a Ravenclaw/Ravenclaw and donât have a Gryffindor bone in my bodyâŚ
Friend: *eyes glaze over*
***
Me: *out running with ZR, and a beloved character who disappeared a while ago comes back* OMG <spoiler> YOUâRE BACK I KNEW YOU WERE OKAY AND I AM SO GLAD YOU ARE HEEEEERE! *clapping and doing a happy dance*
Another runner: *gives me a wiiiiiide berth, probably debates calling 911*
Confession: Sometimes, when The Builder appears in a scene, my brain decides to imagine him with an actual huge, bright yellow hard hat on??? Like Bob the goddamn Builder. I literally imagine him running from zombies or blowing shit up with this ugly-ass helmet on, and no one says a thing. Itâs just. There. Chilling on his head. Itâs not all the time, either, I imagine it randomly.
