there’s this (mostly) single-gender alien race, thousands of years old, super technologically advanced. they fought a civil war that severely damaged their home planet and started because some of them rebelled against a dystopian government that dictated that form = function in society. like, what you were determined your role, and they had a hierarchy with higher and lower classes and everything with the more common lower ones seen as expendable. they’re inorganic, they’re made, not born, each have serial numbers, and there’s a pretty big size range- they can be really big and really small. they can combine into bigger, more powerful beings, and they can survive other injuries as long as a certain piece of them isn’t destroyed. the antagonists want to build an empire through conquest of other planets and want the earth for its resources (and what they planted in it thousands of years ago), but the protagonists (particularly their leader) think humans and other species are worth protecting. each side has their own symbol they wear to show allegiance. some of them are canonically gay married. is this about steven universe or transformers
