Elaborating in my idea that the murder and the burning of the mansion are related.
We know that there is a new up incoming textile mill that has been rising and running other companies out of buissnes in Redhill. Zolister says that their next target is Zombie's company, and that he was there to level the playing feild.
But if Zombie's company is "drowning in investment fonds" how do you run out of buissnes a company like that?
You destroy it from the inside out.
The murder of Mysticat was paid for by this company. The random man just the crazy bastard willing to do it.
Think of the timing, did this random act of violence just happened to interfere with Zolister's approaching visit? A visit meant to seal a financing deal nonetheless?
Someone on your staff dying so violently would make most cancel upcoming visits. Or perhaps they thought the investigation would prevent the it, and who wants to be associated with the murder house, right?
But it didn't work, Zombie's greed was too big, he insisted Zolister came anyway, and the police didn't really make a murder mystery level of investigation (they were too busy harassing a maid). So what's left?
A big competitor just secured a deal that would greatly benefit them and give them a safe standing. (As far as they know, unkown to them, Zombie shoot his own foot) so what now?
Ok im high off the ending of whitepine so I may be off but hear me out.
Pyro and Ivory are in a way mirrors of eachother.
Pyro is someone who lived in relative comfort, until they were **outed**, which made the abuse he experienced from his father double. Still, he choses to remain where he is, he takes the insults, he takes the bullying, he makes no move to try to better the situation because as they are they still experience some level of comfort (at least physical, if they leave, they have nothing.)
Ivory, tho, left. Kicked out or not, she lost everything. But she surronded herself with people who care for her and love her, people who won't chase her off. She moved forward, she didn't let despair take her in that forest. More, even, she is the one to **come out**.
Ivory is the one with the desire to express herself, to tell others. Pyro has given up, he was probably never going to, "It's not like I get to express myself here (...)" but never considered to run away? Leave? Move? It comes back to passive and active attitudes.
Ivory, even if she ended in whitepine out of pure luck, she still made it. Still works. Still gets up and moves and has the energy and desire to know others and let others know her. [((She is such a wonderful character, I cannot put into words how I see her or make you understand what I mean when I speak of her. Which may dumb my message if you don't have the same read of her as I do im so sorry 😭😭😭.))]
Of course, Ivory still suffers. They're both queer in an overwhelmingly hateful world, but they have very different attitudes and views. Ivory moves, Pyro stays. Their suffering is different, and they endure it in different ways, but its there. It's queerness, it's what society has made queerness into.
Or that is my view on it anyway, I don't think it was an intended reading, I feel like it would had been made more obvious if it was, Ivory tells a whole other story through her cinematography. But its a read I like and somewhat rasonates with me.
Random Tegrith headcanons because I yearn for the worldbuilding
(These are taken out of absolutely nowhere. I made all of them up. Its just my own personal hcs that I imagined because I am a NERD who YEARNS for the irrelevant worldbuilding like a LOSER)
1- People rarely marry:
Because one of the main spiritual belif of the town is decentralized and so personal and familial, there isn't a church or anything of the likes to push for weddings. Therefore, while weddings do happen, they aren't really a thing people have at the forefront, and it was brought from culture outside of Tegrith. Young people are expected to couple up and have children young, but usually one of the two partners will move into the other's family home.
On societies that push for weddings(for non-religious), often see them as proof of compromise. But what could prove more compromise than spending so many resources and labor on the relationship?
2 - Multi generational homes:
Winter is harsh, space is limited, and a heavy cultural weight in familial ties has made it so that Tegrith usually has multiple generations living in the same home. One of the children(if multiple) will usually move their partner in and live alongside their parents, it wouldn't be smart to leave elders alone in harsh conditions, and it's an aid to the working young with the children of the community.
3- Community first.
Family and ancestry is important, but in harsh conditions, the community becomes the priority. Fighting for everyone to be fed and sharing resources is not only a matter of morals, but if you don't help when you're steady, who will help with you when you're the one starving? Tegrith economy works mostly on trade of physical goods or labor.
There isn't much disparity on economical status due to this, no man left behind and all that. However, that has made social standing a very important thing. If you haven't shown good will before, why would others sacrifice for you? If you haven't shown interest in working (when you are capable) why burn resources on you? Being rude, not social or simply greedy could also harm someone's reputation enough to cause disdain, and that is not something you want in such a tight knit community.
4 - Cremation:
The constant moving from the summer village to the winter village makes it so having a cemetery is impractical. Not only that, but workable space is a precious thing, and who wants to dig graves in frozen or rocky ground?
Cremation probably started long ago that the why isn't even much of a thought. Some people may still prefer to be buried, but most people prefer the traditional.
People are often cremated with things they held dear, one of the reasons there aren't ment heirlooms in Tegrith besides tools, stories and techniques.
Some families start the flame with their folk flame.
5 - Traditions
Tegrith has a particularly interesting belif spiritually. The folk flame is so interesting because it places so much weight into the past while also nourishing forward. The stories told, of times past, aren't to show how things should be and stay, but to hold remembrance of ancestors and the lives they led, possibly to take as morals on how to live. But they aren't there to hold life at a standard.
This made it so, while Tegrith stays fairly traditional in its way of thinking and moving (its what they're used to), it isn't resist to change.
(This I did take from both [cc]Pyro and [cc]Scott saying that while Tegrith is fairly traditional the community isn't hostile, probably the only hc I'm taking actually from the ccs. It still counts bc they never said it's because of the nature of the belif of the Folk Flame, that I made up because it makes sense to Me)

TF!Pyro is not the type of person you imagine would fall victim to a cult, but he 100% would. The cult just needs to tug on the right strings.
Like if the flock came around telling him about protecting the legacy of the shepherdess or smt and spew some thing about his memory living forever in her embrace there is a high chance he would end up converting (if they weren't so locked in with the dragons)
So many people not realizing the empty temple-looking room at the bottom of the elemental cave being very probably a wind msgic reference is making me grind my teeth to the gums
Thinking about v!Scott taking on the ‘do no harm’ oath post-canon, as a reminder of both what the promise he made is and who he made it to
At first he’s very far from perfect, maybe until he almost messes up badly and from that point on knows he needs something to keep him grounded. He remembers the doctor’s mantra and tries it himself. If it worked for Legs, maybe it’ll help him too
He starts saying it to himself mentally whenever he catches himself going too far, whenever he’s starting to fall back into old habits. And it helps. He starts to understand Legundo’s mindset more, just from taking on the saying. It genuinely helps him to be better, alongside the support from Shelby and Drift
Maybe one day he accidentally says it aloud, and is lovingly teased by his friends, but if it helps it helps. But the teasing makes him think more, Shelby’s words about how cute it is that he took it on getting under his skin and making him really think about the doc, trying to justify it to himself more and telling himself it’s normal. He represses any weird feelings he definitely doesn’t have, and continues on, but keeps using that mantra as a reminder
He starts visiting Legs’ grave, alone, just to talk about his progress. Telling him how he’s doing his best to change and be better, how he mocked him for his oath to ‘do no harm’, but that he’s really come to understand it ever since he started using it himself
He finds himself missing the doctor, wishing he could actually see how far he’s come. But he’s gone, and Scott just has to keep on living

One obsene example I use to make people understand how bad I am with accents is that until like a few weeks ago I fully thought PYROSCYTHE was british and only found out he is not bc of Vampires. Not even bc I recognized the accent, I saw a clip where he called himself australian.
I found him bc of the KSMP and watched most of that AND all of Whitepine and I was 100% sure he was british. This is NOT my first time watching something he is in. I've also been a casual Millkberry enjoyer for like a year now (I thought she was American btw)... like this is baaad...
