The town that would become Mystic Falls, VA, has a long and complicated history that often gets swept aside in favor of a focus on beauty pageants and town pride. Before the days of Miss Mystic Falls, the town was home to a number of plantations. One of those belonged to the Fell family, and eighteen years before the start of the Civil War, an enslaved woman known as Phillis gave birth to a daughter. While children were often born on the plantation, rumors swirled that the fair skinned child had been fathered by Thomas Fell himself. No parentage was claimed, of course, and the girl was raised working in the Fell home alongside her mother.
Letitia was quiet and bright. She listened during the Fellās lessons and tried to read in secret. It was a risk, but she never made any waves until Phillis was sold to a plantation further South. Powerless, there was nothing Lettie could do as her mother was sent away. As tensions between the North and South escalated and war began, Lettie knew she had to move. Her options were to go South to find her mother or flee North to find freedom. Either was a risk, but Lettie couldn't imagine never seeing her mother again. After careful planning, she stole away in the night.
Unfortunately for Lettie, she didn't make it far. It would only be a few nights before she grabbed by a group of men who planned to return her. For Lettie, returning to the Fell's would be a fate worse than death. She was determined to do anything to stop from returning to Mystic Falls, even if it meant dying.
Little did she know, Lettie would die, and she would return to Mystic Falls. It started when the men were attacked out of nowhere. The assailant didn't use a gun or their fistsā she used her teeth. She ripped out the throat's of the men, and in the aftermath, Lettie's savior introduced herself as Yuka Kalluk. She offered a freedom that would surpass the night. Lettie had heard of spirits and things that crept in the dark. At the end of the day, Yuka had saved her when humans had done nothing but hurt her. Knowing this was her chance, Lettie agreed and turned into what she would later learn was a vampire.
Now possessing power she never thought possible, Lettie was more determined to find her mother. Yuka told Lettie she'd be happy to help with her mission, but they had business in Mystic Falls first. Yuka had been crossing the country trying to save those who suffered, and she wanted to liberate Mystic Falls before leaving. Besides, Yuka said, she'd need a daylight ring to walk in the sun, and there was a witch in Mystic Falls who could make them. Reluctantly, Lettie agreed. It's too bad nothing went as planned.
Katherine Pierce: the one who ruined everything. Her affair with both Salvatore brothers ended in a deadly aftermath, and all of the vampires in Mystic Falls were forced into a tomb under Fell's Church. The irony was not lost on Lettie, but other matters were more pressing. A slow desiccation meant never seeing her mother again. It was a painful and drawn-out fate that the vampires were subjected to, left to rot there forever.
Until, that is, the day the tomb was reopened. Infuriatingly, it had to do with Katherine. Damon Salvatore was still trying to get her back, and his work led to Lettie and the other entombed vampires were incidentally freed. The year was no longer 1864. It wasn't even 1964. It was 2026, and 162 years had passed. Lettie and the other vampires found a place to stay under the guidance of the also freed Pearl Liu, but a lack of daylight rings or a witch willing to make them meant they were trapped during the day. After almost 200 years in the tomb, it's hard to still feel stuck. The vampires don't get along and tensions are rising. Lettie doesn't care about a potential coup or revenge. All she wants is a daylight ring and to research what happened to her mother. Her possible Fell connection also remains on her mind, especially as the family's still in Mystic Falls. If Lettie is a Fell, she's owed. After enslavement and the tomb, it's time she finally gets what she deserves.
ā¾ YUKA KALLUK saved Lettie a very long time ago. Because of that, Lettie will always be in Yuka"s debt. That need to repay her is what caused Lettie to stay in Mystic Fall's to help start a rebellion instead of going to look for her mother. It's also what led to her being entombed with the other vampires. As a result, Lettie's feelings are complex. Yuka will always be important to her, but she'll always wonder what would have happened if she hadn't agreed to help her. It feels wrong to be resentful, especially when Yuka was doing such vital work. It wasn't her fault they got captured. That was all Katherine Pierce.
ā¾ MAEVE MCCULLOUGH is a witch. Her family runs a local store that sells bath bombs by day and potions by night. During her limited time out in town, Lettie has seen Maeve and her sisters at the store. Witches and vampires don't mix well, but Lettie needs a daylight ring. Maybe Maeve and the McCullough's could help her get one. She can't stay in the shadow's forever.
ā¾ LOGAN FELL may be distantly related to Lettie through the Fell family line. He was recently turned into a vampire, which, on paper, would be a great connection to have. Logan Fell, however, is unfortunately an idiot. He's more likely to get himself killed than he is be a positive addition to the vampire community in Mystic Falls. Still, he could be a potential source of information for Lettie regarding the Fell family. She'll start with him before moving onto one of the others Fell from the seemingly endless bunch.
