[Spock’s PADD starts to ding. It’s a video call from an unknown address.]
[Should he choose to answer, he would see a certain Ensign Teddy’s face (entirely too close to the camera). In the background, it’s visible she’s in Medbay, and by her uniform it’s cleae that she’s from the other, “mirrored” universe, not Spock’s current one.]
“Uh, hello? I’m stuck in Medbay right now, I wanted to try calling my friends but then this address popped up…I’d never seen it before. ‘s anyone there?”

[Spock is used to receiving communications from the alternate universe, but this person seems confused about who she is contacting. Hoping he's not undermining (prime) Kirk's authority, but knowing that it's too late for any other course of action now that she's seen him, he speaks.]
Greetings, Ensign. I am First Officer Spock of the ISS Enterprise. For clarification purposes, I will state that I am not the same Spock that you are familiar with, although that should be visually evident.
[Teddy moves the PADD away from her face just enough to see the screen properly (she is still uncomfortably close). Her eyes widen almost comically.]
“Woah, you look really cool!! I mean, I knew you weren’t my Commander because ensigns aren’t allowed to message him randomly but! Oh wow!”
[After a short moment of shock, she seems to remember her manners.]
“Right! I’m Ensign Teddy Rosenthal on the USS Enterprise! Like you but USS!”
[The ensign doesn’t quite seem to realize just who she has managed to contact, or the fact that this individual is not of this timeline.]
[He is slightly amused by her honesty and her bubbly personality. People don't behave like that in his universe. He is sure that the inter-universe connection and his self-control are enough to hide his amusement, though.]
Your compliment is appreciated, Ensign Rosenthal. I trust that your captain is well? I consider him a good friend. If you have the opportunity, pass along my greetings to him.
[Her smile is so big it almost raises the brightness on Spock’s display.]
“He’s doing good, yeah! I’ll tell him you said hi!!”
“So, uh, you said you’re from the ISS, right? What, uh, what system is that? ‘Cause all Federation ships are USS…”

[Sarek is taken aback by the sheer about of emojis, sparkles, and overall chaos. Despite his initial reaction, however, Sarek knows that it is polite to respond and introduce himself, then allow Teddy to decide how to move forward. Perhaps Teddy was attempting to reach someone other than the Vulcan Ambassador, hence the absurd amount of glitter. Sarek is just thankful that he will not have to attempt in vain to clean glitter out of his carpet.]

If you wish to continue communications with my person, may I inquire as to how you have managed to be 'stuck' in medbay?

“Hi!! Hello!!! I’m Teddy, I don’t think we’ve met, heh!”
[She attempts to lean on a box nearby and ends up accidentally knocking it off the crate it was perched on.]

[they do the vulcan salute and then pick up the box and put it back]
[they consider going back to their work and ignoring teddy, but its the end of their shift and they don't feel like lying about it]
"we, in fact, haven't met."
“Well, it’s nice to meet you, T’kite!”
[She offers a hand then remembers that Vulcans don’t do that, so she pivots clumsily into a wave. Her eyes catch the other ensign’s robotic arm.]
“Woahh, that’s so cool!!!! Did you build it yourself? It’s so blinky!!”
"it's nice to meet you as well."
[t'kite blushes slightly at the attempted handshake]
"thanks. yes, i built it myself."
"perhaps we could continue this conversation over dinner?"
[Her eyes light up.]
“I’d love to!!!!”
[t'kite leads the way to the mess hall, completely oblivious to the fact that may have come off as flirting]
[they head over to the replicators and order plomeek soup]
[Teddy, wanting to twin, gets some potato soup and sits down next to T’kite.]
“So, how long you been on the Enterprise?”

[It’s late at night, late enough where everyone should be asleep. And yet, Bones hears a knock on his office door before a sleepy ensign shuffles in.]
“Doc? Doc I…I threw up…”
[Like usual, Teddy looks so, so sad about this information.]

Doctor McCoy brings her into the med bay and helps her up into a bio bed, fetching a blanket to wrap around her shoulders. He scans her with a tricorder.
When did ‘ya start feelin’ sick?
“J-Just now. I mean, I guess I was tired all day…”
[Her voice wobbles, and a few tears drip down her face. Teddy grabs the blanket at the corners like a security blanket.]
Oh, honey, honey..
He grabs a tissue and carefully wipes her tears.
Shh, easy, honey, easy. It’s alright, darlin. I reckon you’re just a tad overworked, hm? How bout you stay here for awhile, let old bones take care of ya?
[The sentiment just makes her sniffle more. He’s right, she has been working harder than normal. She does this around this time every year, whenever people around her start to take leave, and she ignores it. God, does she try to ignore it.]
[But she must’ve pushed herself too hard this time, burnt herself out. And all the emotions are just bubbling up to the surface.]
[Teddy doesn’t respond to Bones, but she doesn’t let go of the blanket, either.]
He simply can’t resist the parental urge.
Oh, baby, baby, it’s okay, it’s okay. You’re okay, you’re safe. You ain’t in trouble, honey.
He sits next to her and wraps an arm around her shoulder, rubbing her back softly.
[Teddy’s shaking at this point, and she flinches away from McCoy’s arm.]
“B-But I should—I need to prove—“
[Her anxious ramblings get cut off by a nauseous-sounding hiccup.]
He doesent hold onto her, but he does give her space to move into a hug if she want too.
Teddy, darlin, look at me- look at me. You ain’t got to prove shit to anybody, you hear? You are talented, and driven, and kind.
[She shakes her head roughly (which doesn’t help her nausea at all).]
“No, no, ‘ve gotta. I don’t—I don’t want to lose this! I-I’ve gotta make them proud!”
[Unfiltered thoughts are spilling from Teddy, stuff nobody else has heard and, if it weren’t for the time of night, nobody ever would.]
Teddy, look at me! You’re not goin’ anywhere, you’re not disappointing anyone. You’re okay, honey, it’s okay. You ain’t in any sort of trouble. You make me proud, plenty. Every day.
“I-It’s not you!”
[Teddy shouts and it rings out in the quiet Medbay. And she freezes. Scared.]
“I’m sorry, I-I’m sorry I’m so sorry—“
