aka a list of things that certain parts of the One Piece fandom do that I find mildly concerning:

(Do not use this post as an excuse to harass other creators. This is meant as a fandom critique that is not specific to anyone, but rather bringing to light an ongoing issue i've noticed)

Explicitly calling Shanks' crew - especially Beckman - his 'babysitters' (regardless of the context, it's pretty weird imo), or otherwise portraying him as some sort of burden to them. Marco's quips and Benn's quip about him being 'high maintenance' should not be taken at face value and interpreted as them hating him, because they very clearly don't. (with this kind of Shanks mischaracterisation, Benn is also often mischaracterised as well)

Anything that suggests that Shanks is entirely incapable of looking after himself and is dependent on others for it. Fics + discussions surrounding his having depression is one thing, but here I mean implications suggesting a dramatic lack of hygiene and the over-exaggeration of his drinking habit. (I just find it mildly obnoxious lmao)

Shanks being overly villainised just because he happens to have a complex moral code and acts as such (ie blowing up Barto's ship, plus generally working behind the scenes)

(Characters who appear more than once have multiple pets that feel fitting for them, not necessarily that they have all of them at the same time XD)

Some additional lore:

Yasopp helped foster Usopp's love for arthropods (especially beetles)

Gab used to keep mice as pets when he was a kid

Shanks is particularly fond of cats that have more difficulties finding homes (senior cats, cats with additional needs, etc)

Rockstar is very fond of his pet rabbit (a black Havana named Pearl) who sometimes joins him when he's doing fashion photoshoots

The town where Limejuice grew up had a large stray cat population, (all loved and cared for by the community) and he would feed and play with the ones near his house

Roux is very fond of guinea pigs and chinchillas

Building Snake and Yasopp trade reptile caretaking tips with each other (Snake would have a gecko or chameleon, while Yasopp would have a corn snake or other similar species)

Hongo would have canaries or finches, while the redhead would have either a pair of lovebirds or budgies. Shanks is generally a friend of all birds, so seeing him with a pigeon, News Coo (or any other bird for that matter) using him as a perch is fairly normal.

Building Snake finds a lot of satisfaction in caring for fish. Shanks often helps care for them too for the same reasons

Race: Giant with Ancient Giant heritage (as a result, they are taller than most giants - not as tall as Loki though - and has horns on his head)

Bounty: 200,000,000 (While not actively engaging in conflict, they have vast swathes of information on both pirates and Marines, as well as classified data that is forbidden from entering public circles)

Abilities:

Armament Haki (highly advanced)

Conqueror's Haki (basics covered, but not as advanced as Armament Haki)

Proficiency in weapons like swords, axes and hammers. Also not bad with a bow or crossbow

Fun Facts:

He is part of a crew known as the Catfish Pirates, but is known publicly as an unofficial member because they do not want their friends to be caught in the crossfire and punished for his crimes

While technically not affiliated with anyone, Ingvar has a friendly relationship with the Red-Hair Pirates and has a great deal of respect for Shanks

So as to not scare people, they play off their horns as part of their helmet

He has a shrink ray (stolen from MADS) that he uses to shrink down to human size in order to blend in with civilians, particularly in places that are not as accessible to giants

Their mission is to collect knowledge, particularly that which is at risk of being lost or erased and/or which generally contains risky information (e.g. Void Century shit, hidden archives, etc)

He was imprisoned in Impel Down once, but managed to escape

Limejuice likes sex, but doesn't have time for romance. Besides, he has more than enough love to go around for his crew

Building Snake just wants to have fun, no strings (and labels) attached

After joining the crew, Yasopp ended up doing a bit of soul-searching and has come to terms with the fact he likes men more than he thought (took it a lot better than Benn initially did 😅)

Shanks likes to flirt for fun, not because he's interested, but because he finds it both amusing (and ofc annoying) that flirting comes with certain expectations (ie a sexual encounter, possible date, etc)

It took Benn a while to come to terms with being bi, but luckily he had the support of the whole crew
